  1. Ryan absolutely has that security, one could argue that Terry Ryan has had the most job security of any GM in any of the major sports, the Pohlad's multiple times have anointed Ryan the GM for life.
  2. "This isn't the first time my head's been called for. I understand the responsibility of the chair." This is problem with naming Terry Ryan GM for life ("until he doesn't want to anymore") like the Pohlads have said multiple times. Ryan basically knows it's his job until he retires, when you have that sort of job security you will begin to accept less than good results. Which IMO has been Ryan's main problem his entire 17+ year stint in Minnesota. Additionally Terry Ryan once again seems to take zero responsibility for the collapse this year, "you can change people in the chair, but you gotta get it right on the field" Once again, a lot of these issues on the field could have been corrected prior to this year or years past: i.e. Catcher Sano in RF Lack of front of the rotation SP Bullpen Frustrating interview overall, Dougie tossed him a bunch of soft ball questions. Would be nice if someone in the media would actually ask something resembling a "tough" question.
  3. Grossman is making $12500 for every week he is on a major league roster. Nobody is bashing him, so I don't feel too bad about someone poking fun with this thread... I think Grossman could stick for a year or two as a bench guy/back up OF. Which is great and all, but in a 11-32 season Ryan shouldn't be patting himself on the back after 2 games for picking up a guy like this. Pat yourself on the back the next time you find the next David Ortiz on the open market or something...
  4. I really really want to see the White Sox beat the Cubs in the word series now. I love a good riot.
  5. I hope TR didn't hurt himself patting himself on his back so hard.
  6. Yeah dozier makes sense as a trade candidate, not only bc he could bring a solid return hopefully, but because for some inexplicable reason the Twins continue to think he is a "lead off hitter"
  7. *the twins chances in 2016 are toast
  8. Let's face it, the Twins 2016 is toast, we aren't sniffing the playoffs and if we manage to get close to .500 to end the season it will be a minor miracle. Baseball is an awesome sport, and this season is far too short to stop caring about meaningful baseball games, thus, who will you be rooting/watching for and why from here on out: My choices: 1. Seattle Mariners- my family lives in Seattle and the team has never even been in the World Series! Reasons enough! But they have been a fun team to watch overall and have suffered through several dissapointing seasons to get where they are, they pitch well, they hit well, they field well and they went out and addressed their bullpen when it was poor to turn it into an asset. 2. Washington Nationals- why not? Harper is the best player in baseball and Washington could use a winner as a city. 3. NY Mets- the party here would be awesome. Always good to see them one up the Yankees as well. 4. Toronto- O Canada! Your choices?
  9. To be fair I would estimate that 80% of the user base here thought having Sano in RF was mind boggling prior to the season starting. 90% were concerned with catching And like 99.5% were not happy with the bullpen "upgrades" Of course nobody could envision this total disaster. I was pretty pessimistic coming into 2016 due to regression from some luck and lack of moves, but even I had them pegged for 77 to 85 wins. If someone gave me 50:1 odds that the Twins would start 10-30 on the season I never would have taken them. With this schedule, opening day roster etc I would have guess that 17-23 would have been their worst case scenario for first quarter of the season. That doesn't let TR and Molly off the hook completely though, as a lot of players have to step up and have been dissapoinments. But good lord, what a mess. I'd place the blame as followed: 50% TR/Front Office 30% players 20% Molly/Field Staff Drastic Changes need to be made to all three IMO
  10. I agree with you 100% 50% of the time.
  11. There is no reason why guys like Cruz, Davis, Fowler, etc wouldn't come to Minnesota if Minnesota was offering them the money. I mean they were able to get Santana, Hughes, Nolasco to come to Minnesota... They even had enough money/ability to go out and get an ace type guy like Cueto that multiple of us suggested, a guy who has exactly one less win in 2016 than the Minnesota Twins! Signing Cueto alone would have made this team almost 2x as successful as they have been thus far
  12. Especially when considering that the Twins are now on pace for one of the 3 or 4 worst seasons in the history of baseball. It's not like the Twins are a game or two under .500 and people are over-reacting. The season is 25% over and it has been a complete disaster.
  13. Few things: Rajal Davis absolutely is not replacement level. Replacement level is 0.0 WAR, Davis has pretty much been between 1.3 and 1.8 the past few years, not earth shattering, but not replacement level. He has is average at the plate (not replacement level) and already has a 1.0 WAR this season thus far (on pace for 4, but will probably end up 2-3) Not so Fun fact: Aaron Hicks is still playing a lot better overall then the following players: Murphy- who he was traded for Buxton- who replaced him Rosario- Who the Twins kept around instead of Hicks
  14. Abad was a good signing, tendering Nunez was the right thing to do (I was against it). The other "non" bad moves were no brainers: like tendering Escobar and Plouffe contracts. The one move that hasn't worked out that I don't mind is tendering Jepsen a contract, while it was likely he was going to regress a little from his outstanding 2015 as a Twin, I don't think any of us saw this large a drop off. The five decisions that still frustrate me the most: 1. The utter lack of actually trying to go out and fix/improve the bullpen in any sort of legitimate way. 1a. Not trading Plouffe and sticking Sano in RF. 2. Hicks for Murphy, hated it then, hate it now. 3. Not moving May back into the rotation. 4. Not letting Duffey start the year in the major league rotation. Those are were all very terrible moves and the results have been terrible.
  15. Resigned and let some sorely new blood take over.
  16. I'm one of the few who like DickBert, it's hilarious someone got mad at Bremer for being critical, good lord, if you want people to praise you perhaps you should start winning more than 25% of your games. This org is thin skinned/soft from the front office down to the players. They would never survive in a market like LA, Chicago, Philly, NY, Boston, etc
  17. Kepler is a good enough CF where he could be decent enough in CF for the Twins until Buxton is back. It would be kinda silly for the Twins to have Sano play RF but refuse to let Kepler play CF to be honest.
  18. Caught the first three innings before a dinner. It appears I didn't miss much in the last 8 innings eh?
  19. Not true, several of us were calling for an additional good OF to be signed. Double so after Hicks was traded, most people suggested that Buxton may not be ready from day one anyways, so thus the "blocking" issue was never a real issue. Additionally if you look at the regression candidate thread, the majority of people were predicting that Rosario would be the big regression candidate. Plus Sano never should have been in the OF to begin with....at any point...ever.
  20. He ended the season with a .702 OPS, 567 PA and a 89 OPS+, while playing poorly in RF. You act like he suddenly didn't see the field in the second half of the season when that clearly isn't the case. He ended the season with a negative WAR (-0.8) which means that we would have been better offer with a replacement level player instead of him, if they could have gotten a 2-3 WAR player (which is what you should get if you are shelling out 10 million dollars for a player) than the Twins likely win a wild card spot. Torii Hunter was not the reason why the Twins played halfway decent last year. I have nothing against Hunter, I think he was one of the best Twins players of all time, it was just a huge mistake to sign him up for starting RF prior to last season. The fact that we paid 10+ million and he ended up as the 2nd worst corner OF in baseball seems to prove that, no? Especially as many of us were calling for guys like Nelson Cruz. It's not his fault that Terry Ryan clearly overpaid for him, both in terms of a guaranteed starting spot and money.
  21. Hunter wasn't a decent OF'er last year, he was literally the 2nd worst hitting corner OF in all of baseball. That isn't decent... that is poor.
  22. .826 OPS this month so far. Which is better than everyone on the team not named Park. So I am guessing he would have helped at least a tiny bit, no?
  23. A "replacement level" team would get you approx 48 wins in a 162 game season, the Twins are actually behind that pace.
  24. Hicks had a .886 OPs last year agains LHP and a 97 OPS+ overall. Which isn't bad for at all for a CF. Especially a CF that is very good defensively. In fact that was pretty much average 97 ops+ at the dish. Stop acting like hicks was drew Butera, he wasn't.
