  1. I think this states things pretty well. We know what Pelfrey is and will be. A little success should not change anything. Guys who are early to mid twenties can "turn a corner", guys Pelfrey's age don't and nobody should be fooled. There were a lot of cases against KC where Suzuki had his glove low and on the corner and the ball drifted to the middle. He was lucky and more time will quickly expose that. Nolasco is no savior but we are married to him for now. When he is ready, Boyer should go, Pelfrey goes to the pen and May should stay.
  2. The quick Rasing Arizona reference by Bonnes was classic.."not unless you think round is funny."
  3. You may be right about the same end results. I like Oakland's style because they make gutsy moves that MN does not seem to make. I can feel a moderator coming so let me get back on topic. Dozier is under team control, the system has 2nd base talent and therefore I don't support an extension. Sell high.
  4. Please do not sign him to an extension. The Twins need to depart from the idea that somebody has earned an extension vs what is the best move. Ideally I hope Dozier has another great first half and then gets moved to make room for Polanco. Sell high. What would Oakland do?
  5. My hope is that he has some positive effect on our younger guys and how they approach being a baseball player. Arcia, Santana, Vargas, Pinto and May are up now and hopefully Hicks, Meyer, Buxton, Sano, Rosario, and Polanco will be up and some point. They will be playing with a guy who is in great shape, will still be productive and just signed a 10.5 million-dollar contract at age 39. They should be very interested to learn everything they can from somebody who has had a career like Hunters.
  6. Back in the day I would tail gait with my parents in the Met Parking lot. Dave Engle and Mickie Hatcher would walk around as "the Twins" and say hello. I just wanted you know. If you are looking for the real guys portrayed in Center Field, they may work for you.
  7. Ozzie is so smart that he made positive comments about Fidel Castro and that is bad enough. He did this.....wait for it....while working in Miami. I will be really sad if they were to entertain Ozzie as a real candidate. Mientkiewicz please or a non-Ozzie, external candidate.
  8. I like that he was a Twin, he was popular, he played in a World Series Championship organization, he has done well in the minors as a manager and has a mean streak. I would prefer that he does not get in fights on the field but this team needs intensity. Also, if you are considering Molitor and Mientkiewicz, I think Molitor is the safe choice. Go a new route. It irks Twins fans to think about the players that got away and performed well. Put Mientkiewicz in place before that happens.
  9. How bad is Pinto's defense? All I am aware of is that Perkins did not like pitching to him. How can it be so bad that he would not be considered for a b/u spot for next year? History has shown what too many games in one season can do to Suzuki; he is human. If they catch him more that 100 games I think they are asking for trouble. Keep Pinto as #2 and a RH pinch hitter. I don't understand if it is between somebody like Friar or Hermann and Pinto, how does Pinto not get the nod?
  10. Jharaldson made a great point above about Joe managing the messaging surrounding any injuries. This is a place where I feel the Twins and Joe's management team have failed him. Mauer is not paid to be a speaker. It might be nice if he had a little more flare but I will take boring with a career OBP of .400 any day. The team and his representation should have better helped him speak to the press; this is part of their function. Customer service 101: very clearly give your clients the message you want them to hear or they will make up their own version. We see that happen here. Also, the local press and their bashing is especially sad because I feel they know better. They are just doing it to be shocking to their audience and that sells commercials. Phil Mackey seems to rise above this (Thank you!) and here is an awesome article he wrote a few years ago. http://www.1500espn.com/sportswire/Mackey_OBP_is_more_important_than_HRs_and_Joe_Mauer_is_king_of_OBP092012
  11. Nice write up. Selling should not stress anybody out. Suzuki’s OBP and Avg may be tough to replace and Morales’s run production but beyond that who (what contributions) could they get rid of that are not replaceable with younger players and/or stop-gaps who are in the system? If they get the right offers, take them and forge ahead. If they can end up with 75 wins with brighter lights for next spring then we are good.
  12. I love watching this guy's stat line. He is staying over a .300 avg, taking walks, has nearly a .800 ops, his errors seem to have leveled out a bit and he is playing short. I don't khnow the exact progression of his error total but it seems to me he go to 10 very quickly and now he is only at 13. Exciting.
  13. Is there any insight into the amount of errors for Polanco at Short this year? It would seem to me that going to your right with an arm that was borderline would cause a player to think he has to rush and this would cause errors. Is that his issue?
  14. Trying to justify keeping Parmalee is a huge fail. The chances that he suddenly figures it out at this point are very slim. Let's move on. He seems like a good guy and if he can find it someplace else then so be it. The Twins should be done with him.
  15. I wish Gibson would throw less pitches. 73 in 4.1 comes out to 100+ in 6. That is not horrible especially since today's St. Louis line up was legit. It would be nice to see him shave that total so he could have real shot at making it into the 7th.
  16. Did I read that Sulbraran did not pass the shuttle drill and needed to step up conditioning? It raises concern if a player comes in badly out of shape. Was there any chatter on that?
  17. Although it is seen as a horrible fail, it surprises me that the Nishioka acquisition does not get more negative attention. He was brought in as the next SS and it was determined in a minute that he did not have nearly the arm to play the spot. Who evaluated him in Japan and thought that he had it? The fact that he did not hit may have been a mental thing but if you don't have the arm then you don't have it. The repercussions were poor play, negative attitudes in the clubhouse and it seemed like there was also a spike in thoughts that the front office was doing a really poor job. I remember when Nishi missed covering 1B and Pavano covered for him and then went to the dugout and launched a Gatorade tub in anger. It surprises me that one or more people did not get fired from that acquisition.
  18. I can't help but agree here. Ramos has not been an ironman by any stretch of the imagination. Also, I know this will be unpopular but I am so glad Gomez is not on our team. He is a now a great player; I get it. It is really hard for me to cheer for supremely stupid people. The stunt he pulled against the Braves last year that caused the benches to clear was amazing. He could turn into a hall-of-famer and I would never like him. Maybe when they traded him they could have gotten more but I am glad he is gone.
  19. I equate his team with the Soviet Hockey squad but he is cool. That said, I can't boo a wonderful and classy baseball player. He does not hit women, does not get DWIs, does not get busted for PEDs, etc. You hate him because he wins. I wish he played for us.
  20. I am confused by any ideas that he will be a shortstop. I know he has split time but this does not seem like reality. Based on how it has worked with others, players don't develop the arm for the SS/3b positions. Either you have it or not. I am sure there are some exceptions but generally speaking, when do you see this happen? If he had a shortstop arm then he would be there now. The team would not be messing around with that. I think it would be a miracle if he became more than a 2b.
  21. Last season I seem to remember info about May touching mid 90s on his FB after he had passed the 100-pitch mark. That is very special and I think they should work with him as a starter as long as can. That said, a guy with that arm strength would throw really hard as a reliever.
  22. Per the time he was removed from TJ I feel he was ok. His control should be better this year and I expect we will see good stuff. Regarding the hype, I think people on this site were more or less level-headed about it. The mainstream media was much more hyped. They have to hype up something.
  23. He may rebound and have a nice career at CF but it will be on another team. Unfortunately for Hicks I feel his window is closing too quickly. Buxton could move up quickly enough to only give Hicks short time as a starter. Additionally, his bat does not seem powerful enough to play a corner outfield spot. My hope is that he rebounds so he has the highest trade value because he will be on the blocks by sometime in 2015.
  24. Its not a concern for me because the whole world besides this list puts him at 2,3, or 4. It would be interesting to hear them explain their reasons. 2 or 14, he is still going to mash.
  25. Nice. Thanks for the other comments after my previous post. Heaven forbid I look that stuff up on my own.
