  1. My apologies because my comment is off the topic right away but this play is hot button for me. Doumit should have been sliding into home and this would not be an issue. He would not be hurt, he would not have barely made it back to the plate to get called safe, it would not be an issue. To make it worse he was called out on play a few games prior when he did not slide and the catcher tricked him. Whether it was him or whether there was poor communication with the on deck batter who should be protecting him, I don't care. Figure it out and slide please. This play is in the same category as "hit the cut off man", "don't miss signs", and "the pitcher needs to remember to cover first." It is basic fundamentals.
  2. My wording was not good. I meant that "his struggles with health" was referring to Morneau. I was trying to say that many have been hoping for a long time that Morneau would get healthy and that drives the emotion. Mauer has been much healthier; no question. Sorry for the confusion.
  3. Morneau makes less money than Mauer so that puts him at an advantage in this situation. Bonnes had a cool take on this about 5 podcasts ago. The highest paid guy becomes a lightning rod for the fans emotion. Therefore Mauer will always be under that level of scrutiny even though his average is .325 and his ops is north of .900. Also, due to his struggles with health it gives Mourneau an emotional edge because so many (especially me!) long for the Morneau of a few years ago. On that note let me say that his 7th inning HR yesterday was beautiful. That ball was screaming as it left the park.
  4. Thank you Seth. I am rooting for him. Obviously the Twins need pitching in general but the fact that he is left handed makes it better. May, Meyer, Berrios, Gibson, Baxendale and Stewart are all righties so it is nice to mix in lefties. Per Thrylos, maybe he is not an anchor but he seems to be doing well and growing. Keep it up. For anybody who has not really looked, check his career stats. This year compared to last shows some serious improvement. Go Logan.
  5. Seth- if you have touched on this an I missed then please forgive me. What is news on Darnell's improvement this year? Whip, BB, Hits and HR #s are down while SO and innings are up. Last year he started 28 games and pitched 156 innings. At his current pace, 28 starts will produce 179 innings. That is serious improvement. Are there specific things to attribute this to?
  6. Gibson has about 40 innings left. If starts are quality thats approximately 6 before he is shut down. From a growth and learning standpoint its hard to see how spending those innings at AAA is better than AAAA. Its quite weird.
  7. http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?content_id=28193815&topic_id=18601616&c_id=&sid=milb milb.com posted this clip of Sano's HR. They never seemed to post anything from Ft Myers but the site does post Eastern League footage. It should be worth a look when you know Sano, Morales, Rosario, May or Meyer have done something that is Highlight worthy.
  8. CR will need to make some outfield space...hmmm. How could they accomplish that?
  9. Markos- I have a Samsung galaxy and it downloaded just fine and shows as dl.dropboxusercontent
  10. I guess my point was just about journalists and responsibility. People listen. They should tell the real story. Nothing against Chris Hermann, he is not a rising star. He has played well and provides value but what Hanneman said was simply not true and people were listening.
  11. As always, thank you. One part that stuck out for me was your comments about the general baseball-education level of the public. You used Mauer's time at catcher as an example and talked about what is really a top prospect. The TD faithful this is not a new topic. Then I turned on the dvred Twins game and watched the post game show. Tom Hanneman was talking about Chris Hermann and called him a rising star in the minors. That is ridiculous. Hermann is a nice player but a rising star? That is pretty irresponsible. If a statement were made like that on the political topic, the person saying it would get hammered by criticism.
  12. With what is coming, the team will need vets to nurture young players. Not to mention that having a 40% ob guy in front of legit RBI people is not a bad move. Additionally, I just don't feel confident that the trade would end up well for us. It is fun to talk about stuff but this is one that would never happen. He has his MN contract with a NT clause and I just don't feel its a move the Twins would entertain at this point even if they could.
  13. I think this was covered in detail in another post about Gibsons almost no hitter so please forgive if this is a repeat. I see no issue with him staying down for another couple of starts. They should make sure to preserve the extra year of service and there is no harm getting a few more reps in AAA. He may still get 8 innings at AAAA. I am excited to see him too but it is not like he is the keystone to winning the central.
  14. No one's saying that the team should give up on either one of them completely – in both cases the struggles may be attributable to short-term arm recovery issues – but this notion that they're entrenched regardless of their performance is very bothersome. No scholarships. Agreed.
  15. I like this and I agree with earlier posts that have said this is about development for Gibson and not necessarily winning games. He is at approx 50 innings at 1.5 months into the season. That means he will hit 130 at approximately 8/1. At that point he will be shut down. In order to let him develop properly this year, how many AAAA innings do they want him to have? I hope that he soon crosses whatever threshold they are waiting for so he can get some quality time up here before his season is done. Speaking selfishly, I am excited to watch him pitch.
  16. This or at least don't throw it in a spot where he has murdered the ball all week. Its almost like giving up. Watching the same mistake happen over and over is very frustrating.
  17. This week Dunn has hit three homers left center, another to center that Hicks pulled back and a double to left center. Is it time to give up on pinging the outside corner with him? Last year at TF Blackburn tried the same thing and Dunn hit one off the 2nd deck fascia above the bullpen. Can he get those long arms and that huge bat around in time to hit a pitch on the inside? I don't know but maybe it is worth a shot. Why keep doing the same thing when it is not working?! Maybe we should engage in a land war in Asia while we are at it because that has also shown to be successful. This is killing me.
  18. I think it is interesting what we classify as rookie behavior. At what age were we all taught that hitting a cut-off man is incredibly important or that you keep a bat head high when trying to lay down a bunt or you will give away an easy pop up? He is not a rookie to those skills and concepts. I will not ride Hicks for looking lost at the plate since he jumped levels and batting in the MLB is one of the most difficult sports skills on earth. Lazy play needs to be dealt with immediately. It seems very exceptional to me that Gardy would yell at him in the dugout in a public forum which makes me wonder how many times this had been addressed when the cameras were not on them. Maybe he just boiled over and the fact that Hicks had a guilty look on his face immediately speaks to this. He knew the moment afterwards that he had done something wrong and was in the dog house. I am speculating a lot right now. Short version is lazy play can lose games and it needs to be stamped out quickly.
  19. Love it. I don't know how Law got that impression. I think he was in Beloit for 1-2 games so likely he meant to imply that it just looked that way during the short observation time he had. They have a ways to go but these reports are great. To echo other comments, to have hitters like Sano and Rosario in system is really exciting. Add that to the possibility that they could occupy the 2B and 3B positions for the long-term and exciting turns into ridiculous.
  20. The plate discipline that Sano has showed is awesome. The fielding stats are also no small matter. Last year he had 42 errors in 368 chances and this year he has 5 errors in 77 chances. His % has gone from .884 to .935. If you compare that to the MLB stats that puts at #19 for third basemen so he needs to continue improving but that kind of jump is awesome. If he were to continue on this fielding level and have the same amount of attempts, it will move his totals from 42 errors last year to 24 errors this year. Huge. I realize that this article is about batting and not fielding. Additionally, 25 games is a very small sample but this is really promising. I believe it was Keith Law who said last year that he (Sano) looked disinterested in fielding. I don’t enjoy watching a player when they seem to be a diva that is above good fundamentals; no matter how much talent they may have. For him to improve his fielding this way is really great and says something about his character.
  21. In my opinion, HeyChason said to himself, "what can I put on TD to get these folks to fight with each other?" I am being sarcastic but the idea is a little funny. Who will be the first to make a crazy claim that he is 23? Bingo! Who will be the first to sarcastically say all DR players are older than they say? Bingo! I am surprised nobody has said, "He'll never make it because the team will ruin him by teaching him to hit the ball to right field." Any joking aside, I don't feel he will be up this year. Next year I would not be surprised to see an Arcia-type situation. They may need to try and make some room for him because of injury or because his #s may be too good to leave in the minors. Like Arcia, he may not be completely ready but it will happen anyway because the timing will work for the organization.
  22. I am not saying that Parmalee is a lock for the future because he has much to prove but this business about how he stinks or he "ain't got it" seems crazy to me. He is batting .237 which is 9/38. Lets say he goes 2/4 and 3/4 in the next two games. Now his is 14/46 and batting .304. Does he have it at .304? I think he deserves a fair shot before we start writing him off after about 8% of the baseball has been completed.
  23. I have just realized that I have mixed up the details of the Span trade and the Revere trade. Sorry about that. I will now go to penalty box and feel shame.
