  1. Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | CLE@MIN: Benson falls a homer short of the cycle - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia I really hope he finds it. The attached clip is great I would love to see him do that a lot in 2013 and beyond.
  2. Injured or not, I think his issue historically has been plate discipline. I hope he figures it out. I would be lying if I denied having watched this clip a mess of times. Baseball Video Highlights & Clips | CLE@MIN: Benson falls a homer short of the cycle - Video | MLB.com: Multimedia I would love to see him at Target field doing a lot of that.
  3. Seth and Steve Lein- Good enough and agreed. In my ideal little world we would trade both Willingham and Morneau during this year and meanwhile Benson, Hicks and Arcia would develop/recover nicely. That way those 3 could start the 2014 season in the outfield. It looks somewhat promising the 2/3rds of this could happen and we will see if Benson can find it.
  4. The future looks really bright for him and I hope to see him for a call up (at the least) by the end of this year. I hope that they will trade Mourneau as you mention and the ensuing shift leaves that hole in right. It could be really sweet to watch that happen. The question I have is about his long-term position. I read reports that say he has an arm that is more than suitable for RF and others that say his arm is, "good enough." Seth, yours is the first piece I have read that called his arm, "very powerful." My point is that is does not seem unanimous that he has the prototypical right field arm. I also read that his lower half is very powerfully built. If he proceeds in getting stronger with his shorter (6 foot) frame, it seems to me that he will slow down. Why is there no mention of LF for him? If he could end up to have avg speed, an above avg arm and great hitting skills, that seems like a more natural place for him.
  5. Well said. People need to take a step back and think reasonably. 4 weeks of service in what will likely be a down year vs a full year when the player would be in their prime? I do not see how this is a legit discussion. Also, "screwing players out of pay raises"? Okeydoke. I am sorry if this hurts but baseball is a business and the long-term health of you company is a kind of important.
  6. It took me 25 minutes to get to work today and you guys had not yet talked about sports with the exception of gullible Notre Dame football players. Pretty funny.
  7. I would hope for Deduno. His historical stats tell his story correctly so we know what we are getting but at least the upside is there. If he somehow could gain a bit more control then he could be effective. With Devries you dont have that. Neither are a long term solution but if i have to choose then I am going with the higher upside.
  8. Why Cheap = Smart in 2013 - Puckett's Pond - A Minnesota Twins Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More Puckett's Pond addressed this topic also. Based on their (front office) actions it seems pretty obvious that they never intended to truly compete in 2013. I could go either way on that subject so here is a different question. How do you rebuild and admit that w/o driving your fan base away? I don't have knowledge on other teams who have done this and the approaches they have taken from a Marketing perspective. Is it better to just come out and say we are rebuilding or is it better to say we are going to try and compete when they know it is not true? What sucks more? The Twins are coming off 2 awful seasons. If they feel that they now have a better plan and it means sacrificing 2013 then how do you properly market/sell that plan to the fans? I think they are making an error by not owning up to it. If they partially reveal a plan like that and it works then they build a lot of rapport with the fans. Per usual I am probably being too idealistic so please go easy on me.
  9. Target field offers 2 for 1 Surlys for those of Swede, German, Polish lineage. That happens and I am divorced by July.
  10. What about Mr. Berrios? Cedar Rapids or lower? Will he go like Buxton and maybe make the jump after some time passes?
  11. I must admit that I am beginning to get pretty annoyed. Originally I was saying, "what does anybody expect?" when the Greinkes and Sanchezs of the world went to other teams. That said, with 80 million on the books I am get pretty frustrated thinking about the 2 year contracts that are being signed for FA pitching. Besides Correa, I like the off season moves. Along with them, what would it do to our club to have McCarthy and Marcum? That would put Payroll up to the 95k range, allow a better chance for some more wins in '13 and the team could still be working on rebuilding. The x factor is that those people have to want to play for the Twins. Also, I know this post is the same as a 1000 others this off season and a little late. For some reason I was a bit more level headed about this until recently. Now, as we slide into February, I am becoming annoyed. Please sign another guy.
  12. Society is turning the corner very slowly. We proved that in MN a few months ago by voting down the amendment to outlaw gay marriage and amen to that. I do not agree with him at all and still I will not expect everybody to automatically be on board. His comments on this issue did seem fairly mild to me and they seem like an opportunity. To blast him and call him a bigot vs. calmly pointing out why his comments hold no water seems counterproductive. A largely emotional response might be the bigger enemy.
  13. For one year only and only if the Twins trade Mourneau or Willingham.
  14. I don't feel I have enough info to say where the Twins rank. I don't know enough about all the teams and the ranking systems. The one that jumps out at me is Seattle with 3 top 20 pitchers and #3 catcher in the minors according to John Mayo...(only one opinion). Regarding the Twins, two stand out to me: 1. Experts have said it is extremely rare to have 2 legit #1 prospects and the Twins have that in Sano and Buxton. 2. Until recently we had those two guys and solid offense in the pipe and now we add 2 very legit pitching prospects. We will always need more pitching but I feel really good about where this is going. So far the off season has been very pleasing.
  15. Good call on revisiting Wimmers. Word was that he had gotten past many control issue before his injury. Lets hope that he can recover properly and find control again. Also, this will be a big year for the college relievers that we drafted last spring and are trying to convert to starters. Hopefully some of them pan out.
  16. "If the rumors are true... I don't think Terry Ryan was knocking on the door asking... Someone or someone's must be reaching out to TR here but who knows. " I agree with this idea. And, he should listen. Revere is fun and exciting and still not a long-term solution. If the right deal is on the table then it needs to be considered. Its not about wanting to trade anybody, its what can the twins get.
  17. After 60+ episodes i have come to expect and accept a high level of arguement in the podcast. Thats part of the package. What I want to know is what is up with the baby crying in the background? The lack of bar-type noises was different. And, it was like you guys were whispering. I still enjoyed the analysis and the drama. It was just a bit different. How about getting Gleeman to come back to his old hood for a podcast? The Nook and The Groveland Tap are calling your names. AG could visit his mom after you are done!
  18. Great stuff. This lowered the payroll, acquired a young arm, and made room for younger players while not sacrificing any prospects. There are never guarantees but this looks like a great move.
  19. I am excited to road trip and go see them play.
  20. I don't see how Toronto would trade Johnson for Morneau. It has been stated that Johnson, when healthy, is A list. A top level pitcher is worth more than what Morneau can bring. And, I see Morneau rebounding next year and putting up great numbers but that still does not equate to a true ace pitcher. I love Buerhle and even though his contract is heavy to have him would be great. Johnson will be very expensive after '13.
  21. Detwiller? Interesting. That seems a lot like getting Hellickson but one year older with stats that are not quite as good. I do like the idea of acquiring a quality pitcher who is not yet 27. Neither of those guys are aces but having them in our rotation would likely go a long way.
  22. Yeah, Willingham and Doumit are terrible. Is there an "ignore" feature on this website? Or do I have to do it with my own eyes. In case none of you had heard, the last couple of seasons have been difficult at best and Terry Ryan has a large job ahead of him. J-Dak- Gotcha. In other news the sea is wet. Moving on. I would like Baker back and I hope they can complete something today so nobody can tempt him with something better. Hopefully Thyros knows what he is talking about and this deal is really done but not yet public. G&G have talked a lot about a Colby Lewis-type contract and if they could pull that off it would be great. Also, I like Iwakuma and I hope they make a hard run at him. Mentioning a Japanese player gives J-Dak an opening for a cheap shot about the twins history with that country.
  23. Some people will look at anything half full. Are still complaining about 2 AA hitters not getting called up to get 5 AB's in September? I mean how bad is your life that you have to come on this website, day after day, and post your negative viewpoint. "Pitch to contact is the worst, Tom Kelly's is a good high school coach, we take to long to call up our prospects, nag nag nag." This organization has hit a rough patch but it did spend the last decade being one of the top teams in the AL. So I think we should all just calm down and let TR do his thing and get us back to respectability. This team is not that far off. Amen and thank you. To go nuts and start rushing players will destroy them. Why not hold off get them more ready. 1.5 weeks ago i heard Rosen insinuate that we should rush Sano up to the mlb level. Good lord why? When the young players are ready they will get to target field. Relax please.
  24. In the top 50 prospects list for hitters there is no way Hicks should be above Arcia and Rosario.
  25. I work for a company who has an HQ in Seattle. Apparently the Mariners have just released a notice that they have plans to move in CF by 8 feet and LF by 17 feet. Rumor has it that this is to attract right-handed power. I have not looked over exact scenarios but Seattle has good, young pitching.
