  1. I would like some info on his frame. I have read people who say JO Berrios has low ceiling because he may not grow much more. I don't know if that is true and I hope it is not but it would be interesting to see how Zazueta is built for comparison.
  2. Hablo espanol. The info seems limited. Like others have mentioned he is 18 and hits the mid to upper 90s. He was playing for school called Academia del Carmen in Monterrey which appears to be a baseball park/academy that is connected to a High School. He drew attention from the Yankees, Boston, Texas, and KC. i read that he will try to play for a team on Sonora called the Naranjeros in the meantime and then report to the Twins next winter where he most likely go the rookie league in FLA. I will reach out to a coworker about Academia del Carmen. With any luck it is Cretin Derhum Hall south campus.
  3. Thank you John. I must attend to fatherly duties that evening so I will not make it. Hopefully AG's "gone wild" date from the fair goes so well that he brings her to the Park Tavern. If she is cool with that then they are a match made in heaven.
  4. I pretty much agree. Sign a middle to upper level free agent starter--I've said Guthrie on other threads before he almost threw a no-hitter, get someone close to ready in a trade for an established position player, and then spend a little speculative money. I am a serial scanner and have just now realized that my post is a bit redundant to this one.
  5. First, Baker. I have only scanned these pages quickly and I saw his name one time. He is not "the answer" but if he would agree to a two year deal that was better for the twins than his 9million option that may be one small piece. This all hinges upon solid reports that he can contribute next year and that is a large "if." Secondly, it is my hope that they sign just one. I am trying to keep it reasonable. Just sign one pitcher who is hopefully just a bit better than Diamond. If Diamond wins 14 next year and New Guy wins 15-16 that would go a very long way. Putting together #s 4 and/or 5 with names like Deduno, Duensing and DeVries would be acceptable.
  6. Hey all....What did he say?
  7. I hope he does NOT get called up this year and that he starts the season next year in AAA. He is 22. Let him go to Roc and kill it all year and call him up in Sept of 2013. The Twins need to stop pulling these guys through and slowing their overall progress. Hendricks, Parmalee, and Benson are 3 who before hitting the majors for the first time had little or no AAA experience. Hendricks was up out of necessity due to others getting injured and now he and Parmalee are now doing very well at AAA and may come up again in Sept. And, isn't that how it should be? Benson has had some trouble and hopefully he finds it again. I just do not see any reason to rush them. Even if there are off-season trades (and I hope there are!) that open spots, there is no reason for Arcia to see the ML until later in the 2013 season.
  8. The second sentence of this article is pure poetry. Thank you Parker.
  9. Do you think part of him "not liking" the Twins may have had a little to do with the fact that for the last 5+ years their farm system has been atrocious? He is very high on Sano, Buxton, Rosario and never gave up on Hicks You are probably on the nose...unfortunately. It will be nice to hear his comments after having been there.
  10. Could this be the start of Law liking the Twins? Miguel, Eddie and Kennys....it is in your hands. Go nuts tonight.
  11. I think if that if an acceptable offer comes in the off season that it should be taken and then we don’t look back. It will be sad to see him go but it would be worse to have to settle for a lower value trade next year because things don’t work out as planned. Let’s hope he continues to hit like he has recently so his value is as high as possible this off season. I will be sad to see him go having not reached his full potential with our club but business is business. The poor guy just could not stay on the field during his prime athletic years.
  12. On Monday night's broadcast Bert said that he had heard from the Rochester staff that, "this kid was ready to come back up."
  13. That is so good. I wish there was audio of that. I envision Nolan speaking/scolding with every punch. Did you....really think....you could....charge my mound...and....not....get...the....crap....beat.....out of you?
  14. Agreed. Willingham will only get slower next year. I think it would be very exciting if, in 2014, the OF line up included 2 or 3 of the outfielders from New Britain's current lineup. I look forward to Parmalee being a regular bat in the lineup but surely there is very good reason why he has not played more outfield in his career.
  15. There is a difference between being negative and considering smart moves. Your examples are all over the board. Some folks will dwell on negative. What can you do? However, there is nothing wrong with thinking about dealing Mourneau, Hammer, or others. The twins will need to use offense to find pitching. I would love to see them compete in 2013 and I would love more to see them crush the league for 5 years straight because they gave up some valuable players and rebuilt the team properly.
  16. Minor subject change and I apologize if this is a horribly old and over-done topic. I want to know who lost their job over Nishi. Who went to Japan and/or saw him in the US and said, "oh yeah, this guys is the real deal."? Somebody will say Bill Smith. There had to be other people involved in that evaluation. If I understand the story correctly, Gardy saw him for one day in Spring Training '11 and knew immediately that he did not have the ability to play the MLB shortstop position. MLB channel does a lot of shows that profile top-ten lists. How about a show for most horrific scouting reports?
  17. Congrats on the success. I enjoy the site very much; it has greatly increased my enjoyment of baseball in general. With your help I have become a proud baseball nerd. I enjoyed Bonnes when he was on Kfan on Thursdays as the Twins geek and that is where I first head about the Gleeman/Geek postcast on Sundays. My dog and I go for a 2 hour walk on most Sunday nights and quench our thirst for nerdy baseball discussion. That was about 10-11 months ago and from that source I heard about this site being put together. So I go from one person, to two and then to thousands. It is quite fun. Thanks again.
  18. I am paying attention on my smartphone while I work. It shows the chart of where pitches are delivered. Viciedo's homer pitch was 2 inches above his knee and grooved down the middle.
  19. Why would Burton not make your list?
  20. That seems like kind of a broad brushstroke. At what point will you address need?
  21. I must admit that I know nothing about Skole. These days I am suffering from starting-pitching tunnel vision so it hurts my logical thought. If Skole has solid future value then to get that for players who will not be part of the twins future is good. If nothing else it would increase our trade position for pitching down the road.
  22. A closer, a late-relief pitcher, a big and strong 3rd basemen, a journeyman outfielder? Yes, that is what the twins need. I hope very much that none of these things happen. These types of moves would make me very sad for our future.
  23. I am amazed that this discussion exists. He had TJ in mid April. I know that surgeries and rehab processes improve all the time but that puts him at about 1 year on the nose. It seems really early to me. I asked Seth Stohs on his online chat last Friday if he thought Baker could be ready and he seemed to think yes. I just don't understand how it is possible that he could contribute next year. I still wonder if there is some detail I have missed with him regarding recovery. How can he be ready that quickly?
  24. He is not worth 23 million. Nobody is. Look at the contracts around the league. Fielder? Puljols? A-Rod? Granted, those are only the ones that are struggling but even for those players who are not, they are not worth it. Let that go; it’s a necessary evil. He fills the stadium and his name sells tons of stuff. That is business but let’s just talk stats. He has played half the games at Catcher and has only missed a handful of starts in total. As the others calm down and he quietly moves along, he will overtake the #1 spot in batting average. His OBP is the best in the AL. His OPS is slowly creeping up towards 900. He batted nearly .400 in June. With runners in scoring position his avg is approx. .350. Nevermind that he sees 4.3 pitches per PA. If a pitcher tops out at 100 pitches, Mauer will see between 17.5 and 21.5 of those pitches. That is huge. He wore Chapman down to a nub which allowed Willingham to feast. I miss his homeruns. I would be lying if I did not admit that but we need to appreciate what he brings. Mauer is awesome and we are very fortunate that he is on our team.
