  1. I am starting to lean towards Morris being in. It is a done deal now but the pros seem to outweigh the cons. Am I nuts? With the amount of innings he threw and the amount of times he went deep into the games it seems that the ERA stat gets diluted. What if he had pitched with a good set up man and a closer so he stopped at 6.1-7 innings/game? Also, he pitched in the American league with a DH for his whole career. So all the pros are stated above in Bwille's ariticle and the cons are WAR and ERA? If what I said about ERA counts and you set that aside, is he in? I must say, I do like that it seems that those who vote no are doing so because they are taking a hard look at stats and that is how it should be. That type of analysis would have Johan with another Cy Young award.
  2. I have heard the argument before that the voters should be required to make their votes public and they can then be asked to explain themselves. That makes sense. It is really sad that Baseball has allowed this to become so silly. I know the HOF is a private entity but it represents baseball and should be fixed. I would love to love it. I don't.
  3. He has hit at every level including in the WC last year. I don't think AZ should be a huge concern.
  4. The last line is funny. "Nevertheless, it seems that this cartoon has now ended." It almost sounded like the journalist was annoyed with the story.
  5. It will be interesting to see if you post on this again. Your point is made. You don't dig their content and that is crystal clear.
  6. What a great thread. My two favorite moments: 1. Game 6 in 1987 when Kent Hrbeck hit the grand slam. My dad's job connected him to a lot of St. Louis-based companies so our tickets were in the middle of a sea of Cardinals fans. 2. I think it was '91. The Twins were playing the Yankees. I was sitting very near to the CF camera and there was a deep fly ball to right center. Jessie Barfield came over from RF, caught the ball and threw out Chili Davis who was trying to tag from 2nd to 3rd. From my seat, as I faced 3rd base, Barfield was about 30 yards to my 10 o'clock. That is without a doubt my most favorite live-baseball moment because it was so amazing. That throw with my vantage point was unbelievable.
  7. Any negativity on this is confusing. Out- 3.5 million dollars, redundancy at C/OF/DH, and a player who will not play any part in the future. In- a young LHP with at least a possibility of an upside. Also, I believe this moves the 40-man to 39. This is nothing but good.
  8. You may end up being correct about Meyer. For the sake of his and the team's 2015 I hope very much that he gets a could chunk of MLB experience this year.
  9. One quick thought. We now have a log jam of guys who could go after the 5th spot. Worley, Diamond, Gibson, Deduno, Meyer and TBD all have a chance. This troubled me for a moment but now I think this is how it should be. For a few years we have seen the team have to dig pretty deep and hope for quality replacements at pitcher. This year the Twins will have that battle for the 5th spot and have others working in the high minors who have the potential to be quality arms. Its a nice surplus.
  10. For the time being the Twins should not make any trades with Tampa. Sorry. I feel like they are too sharp and there is NO way we will come out ahead. If Tampa agrees to a trade that means its a bad idea for the Twins.
  11. Yes to this. Good for Ellisbury, I like him as a player. I hate the Yankees and am happy to see them make poor decisions. For Christmas I want them to sign Vernon Wells to a hefty extension.
  12. On this thread and in others there is much talk about Deduno being part of the mix. Is there credible news on how his shoulder is recovering?
  13. No thank you. The Twins have a young catcher in Pinto. I get that to split time with a vet who would then take a back seat as Pinto got better makes sense. I am thinking a Mike Redmond-type player. Salty is not that guy and would demand 3/30 million. This makes no sense to me. One year and 10 million? Whatever, fine. The Twins don't need a 3 year deal like that for a veteran catcher who will not want to play a secondary role.
  14. Unfortunately Kfan often takes a cynical and less informed approach to baseball. Dubay and Mackie on 1500 do a better job. I like this signing a lot. It does not suddenly make the team great but its a nice move in the right direction.
  15. Nothing. This would be fantastic. Sub 4? That might be a stretch.
  16. Yesterday Nick Nelson made the point that Pelfrey is the guy you sign in February as a late pick up. Last year that same point was made about Correa. I am ok with those signings if they come during the right time of the year when other efforts have been made first. Both of those guys can play a good role on the right staff. It is just really hard to understand this move now. Ryan seems to never to give any thought to the perception held by his fanbase. I would love to have been fly on the wall when somebody in the organization said, "Have we thought about how this move is going to be perceived by the public?" Is Ryan hearing that? In no way will I advocate that an executive of a business should have public opinion as his/her top priority but it has to be in there someplace. Why sign Pelfrey now?
  17. I asked this question on a Rosario thread. Is there any current update on timing for resolution about his suspension? Last we heard, MLB needed to look into the situation. I have not heard that things are official. Do you have any deeper update? Thank you.
  18. Steroids issue illustrated perfectly. I can take them, risk suspension but increase my chances of getting contract that sets me up for life. Its a no brainer. I would be taking them too. That said, I agree with Mike. The signing seems nuts but that is because we are looking at it from 90-loss perspective. The Cardinals have few holes.
  19. Does anybody have any more developments with this? Info available on the internet through normal channels is no different than last week. I am wondering if MLB has said anything about a timeframe for investigation. Also, if these are painkillers that he took before, was he just lucky in that he did not get caught or is there more to it?
  20. I don't have the attention span to read 4 pages of comments so please forgive if this is a repeat. The length of the contract is what concerns me. This seems like a guy that (if he played well) would be catching a lot of games. I get that they might want to ease in Pinto because he does have a lot to prove but what if he plays well? In 2015 you have two catchers who would want to catch 100+ games. I think a player with a shorter contract is better. Ideal situation would be for Pinto to work out and to catch 100+ games in 2015 while another guy fills in the rest. Is Saltalmacchia that guy? I don't think so.
  21. BTW I thought it was pretty classy that the second comment on this came from Bonnes who was one of the two people you slammed in your rant.
  22. Whether I agree or not does not matter. I am 100+ episodes into this "circus" and there is no quiting now! What may ruin things is when the team wins again. Will the formula work with a winning ball club? I hope we can find out soon.
  23. I am trying to accentuate any positive and what comes to mind is that he has performed at every level and there is not a "Melkyesque" spike in his stats. Hopefully this is a learning experience that keeps him on the straight and narrow for the rest of his career. Also, in response to Chamoman, I speak Spanish fluently and Google translate did well on that translation. Those online tools are much better than they once were. The Sport Live PR article then goes on to say that Rosario told Thon that he would not be able to play for him anymore this winter. Thon informed him that the rule had changed, he could continue playing in PR this winter and that his suspension would begin at the start of the minor league season. Thon intends to get him back in his lineup.
  24. When does the service time discussion start? Ok...how about now. I hope to see him as soon as possible and I see no reason to sacrifice a year of team control to do this. There are many times to go after the FO for not promoting people quickly enough. This is not one of them. Keep him at AAA for however many games you need to keep that year of control.
  25. I don't get the Meyer comment either. His AZ numbers looked pretty darn good besides hitting a handful of batters. That is strange. Control still seems to be a concern but talk of moving away from starting seems very premature.
