The thing is, no one at all knows what service time will count for with the next cba. Plus, I can’t imagine any players actually burn their service time during a lockout.

Yes, I believe so. I also am extremely excited for when he is playing for another team in 2028 and inevitably has a strong 2 week run and an article is written here titled “Did the Twins make a mistake with Matt Wallner?” The comments on that article are going to be AMAZING! I just hope this article is tagged at that time :)

I think that probably was the case for me. We are on the same page then

Based on this board and the sheer number of pitchers in the top 100, that’s almost statistically impossible. But even then, if they are debating between the 44th and 45th player available, pitching can win out. But the top 3, who are all 60 or above grade prospects, I wouldn’t take a 55 grade player above that
  5. Cory Engelhardt
They can take all pitching after their 3rd pick if that is best player. You need lots of pitching prospects to make pitchers that are mlb quality. All of it is a numbers game right?
  6. Cory Engelhardt
So you don’t subscribe to taking the best player?

Also makes me think they should and could make a bunch of aaa and aaaa outfielders available for any type of movement. But it will be interesting to watch what or how many moves they will actually make. I just hope they do pick a lane and are active

I just meant, they didn't acquire, the Twins, any pitchers like you had mentioned. I also think the Twins could thread a needle where they trade players like Jeffers and Larnach and even Ryan for different levels of returns while also adding a couple of bullpen pieces. At least that path is feasible.

How many A or A+ pitchers were acquired at the deadline last year? Were there any? And I did say that mostly because of Matthew Leach's article at MLB.com the other day, where he floated the idea that the Twins could sell some players, like Larnach, but also attempt to bring in some bullpen help.

Roden will come up soon, once Larnach is traded for a reliever. And Jenkins will debut when he is ready. My guess is still August

Yeah, but when you are taking someone with your 79th pick, the bust rate for whatever position you are taking is just as high. Which is why they are most likely taking a position player at #3, right? When you pick that high, you CAN'T pick a bust.

I would bet that a prep arm will absolutely be taken with one of their day one picks. They have too much slot money alottment, and the prep class is so strong, that they almost have to. But I also hope they do take at least one college pitcher in their day one picks too. My guess is they get someone they like at 43.

I think Flora will be a good pitcher. But is he TRULY light years ahead of Jack Radel, starting pitcher from Notre Dame, who might be available at their pick at 43? I do think he is better right now, but because I can't say with certainty that in 2 years one or the other truly will be a better pitcher, then I lean the position player at 3. And Radel is maybe the 10th best college starting pitcher prospect in this draft, and that's not even counting the amount of prep arms that will fly off the board in the top 100 picks.

    This

I'll take that if that is the baseline.

I do think getting Culpepper up to play either SS or 2B will help the overall infield defense. Lewis has been above average defensively in his small amount of time at 1B, and Lee is at least closer to average (slightly below) at 3B compared to being extremely below at SS. Incremental small steps are still steps. I am curious if this does mean they really push Marek Houston. Probably not, but the glove would certainly help here. That said, Kreidler hasn't been as much a problem when he plays SS compared to Lee or Gray this year.

I have a text chain that's been going for years with some other friends and family who are diehard baseball fans. We all agree that they aren't a great team this year, but they are at least interesting to watch this year. Can't always say that about bad teams. Last year at this time I certainly wasn't tuning in as often.

I don't know how the rest of Lewis's season will go. But his bat has been completely different since he came back up compared to the beginning of the year (since June 6th, 277/322/518 with a strikeout rate of only 22%) which is certainly an improvement from the time before his demotion, which was 163/261/279 and a strikeout rate of 31%.) I'd also argue he looks pretty good at 1B defensively. Anyway, very much still small samples. But he is playing different now than he did the first months of the year.

Came here to say that generally I've really enjoyed how Zebby has been looking this year. It FEELS like you are likely to get 6 or even 7 innings most of his times out.
  20. Cory Engelhardt
Actually winning again will do this. But I'd argue selling the team to another ownership group is the best answer here. For the trade deadline here in 2026, I don't see them trading Buxton or Lewis. That would be the short view instead of the long one you mention in getting back to 30k seats sold per game.
  21. Cory Engelhardt
First, Dan Hayes quoted twins officials saying that they weren't trading Buxton OR Royce at the deadline. They know where fans stand on their perception, and moving off one or both of them just isn't happening. Second, I'm glad that he has made strides, but that strikeout rate is still too high for my liking. And that's nothing to say about his defense. Good for him for sticking it out. I think he will play really well for a Korean team in 2027, and maybe get a chance back in the states in 2028 or 2029 whenever the cba is fully figured out.
  22. Cory Engelhardt
If he is truly one of the outfielders going forward, then they are also thinking that the majority of the outfielders at aaa right now aren’t going to be with the club long term.

When my kids were younger, they loved using the clothes chute mostly to throw stuffed animals and toys down it while chatting and laughing with each other. But they did “shoot” things down it. I can see why that spelling makes sense :)
  24. Cory Engelhardt
    Exactly.

Add me in the camp that Wallner with both his level of defense and his k’s that are still happening, is 3rd on the list of the 3 you mentioned. I’d even argue fairly distant at this point. The other 2 coming up at some point, yes please.
