  1. 1. The Twins going to Boston recall the lyrics from "Black": "I know one day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star, In somebody else's sky why, why can't it be mine?" (sung with soaring Vedder anguish.) 2. That is one brilliantly placed "weird." Pearl Jam also has a song called "Indifference," which could be good fodder for a riff on the Twins run differential, and what it may or may not mean...
  2. Great article. Epitomizes this team, really.
  3. I second that "man, this team..." sentiment. There are alot of guys showing some resiliency, Gibson among them. No 4 and 2/3s doesn't look all that great, but he did his job. Gimenez, what can you say. I don't care what the stats say, he's a good dude to have around.
  4. In hindsight, maybe the fact Rosario got that call-up a while back and Melo didn't should have been a harbinger. The writing was being written on the wall. Speaking of that word, maybe that can be Hildenberger's nickname, instead of Trevor Hindenberger. The Trevor (The Harbinger of Doom) Hildenberger.
  5. I hope he averages out to that! (Or better; why not--except he's a Yankee) No denying that trade was a failed challenge.
  6. Let me get this straight--his name his Jesus Toledo?
  7. Hicks last 30 games: 261/344/441/(782) Buxton: 253/304/347/(655) Hicks last 10 games: 194/310/278/(588) Buxton: 258/343/387(730) Last 20 games since a 4/5, 3-2B, 6 rbi game on June 1: .220 BA, 6 2B, 3 HR (2 in one game) Sorry, no fancy graph, but I think you can imagine what it looks like. Ships passing in the night. If you have Hicks on your fantasy team or profile, you might think about selling.
  8. Only 5 comments so far? Not much to complain about when they win, I guess. Hildenberget seems like he's here to stay...at least he'll get some leash anyway.
  9. To quote the Red Wings announcer, 'Wow." Great day. Good to see Hildenberger with a clean debut, and Curtiss and Reed pick up where he left off. Fun to hear Gonsalves strategery, but maybe he should keep that stuff on the down-low! Trade secrets. Turley has kind of tainted the way I look at gaudy SO numbers, but it was actually really cool to hear how Stephen goes about his craft. Sounds like he has a plan. Thorpe and Ynoa as well. This farm system has a few nice looking SP prospects. I love it when the E-town season starts. Their lineup looks to me like an all-star game lineup. And I didn't even know who Albanese was.
  10. Godspeed, Trevor. Nicely done.
  11. What???? I'm speechless.
  12. "Another Gimenez". Love it. Kind of like a "Maddox." Only different...
  13. Happy for Hildenberg. Hope he doesn't do anything to deserve an all-too obvious nickname! If they were going to ditch anyone, like Belisle, off the 40 man, they probably would have taken them off the 25 man first.
  14. I guess Enlow waits until the Twins are done scraping sticky quarters out of the backseat cupholders of the ol' minivan? And Rodriguez gets the dimes that didn't get sucked into the vacuum at the drive-up carwash?
  15. Cmon, the Yankees just got swept by Oakland and are 1-6 recently. The Twins just need to keep doing whatever it was they've been doing to get to the point they were three days ago. Salvation lies within...let's see this groups quality here.
  16. When I looked at last night's milb box scores last night (since there was no article on TD...) I saw Busey's and Hildy's lines and thought some vague thoughts that then, moments later, showed up fully formed, with pictures, on the TD website. Timely job, Seth. Love the quotes about waiting to get called up before steaming ahead on house plans. Makes me think about the fine financial margins some of these guys are on. Every day in the majors is huge. In this case, probably worth what, a square foot of house?
  17. This thread...wow. Archive it. I like the theory behind the pick. Pitchers of all ages are such a crapshoot. I am no scout, so can't comment specifically, but I like that they took the best position prospect.
  18. As long as something--anything--happens with a reliever whose last name starts with "B," I'm good.
  19. Fun fact: Albert Pujols hit his 200th career homer off of Matt Belisle. Or maybe it was the 300th. Whatever, it was a long time ago. Curtiss 1.1 innings, 3 strikeouts, stranded 2 in the 8th. I'm starting to believe he could help right now.
  20. I had just checked the nightly minor league box scores before reading this. I thought to myself that Lewis has been solid lately, and if he keeps it up he'll be hotter of the month--for June. Hadn't realize he'd been that good for so long.
  21. I too was curious about that Sac Fly score by Whitefield. Game log was no help. The Cedar Rapids write up only said this: "Whitefield scored another run during a sacrifice fly...". During? Hmm. One guy threw 134 mph last night, another ran 134 mph.
  22. I agree with SirLoin about Haley. If I were to criticize the FO about anything, it would be Haley. It's not like he's a flamethrower who might harness things, a la Pressly. He seems a lot like what Hildenberger is to me, without the flexibility. I know all teams do it, but manipulating the Rule V process with these pitch/DL stints is poor sportsmanship. It makes me queasy to be a party to it, and in all honesty, I feel bad for the guy. I'd bend my morals if he was Johan Santana, though.
  23. I guess I should give props to Rosario for finally coming through, though. He had his chances, and in a typical day at the baseball office, came through on one of them. Same for Castro. Good for them. Another 15 inning game at the start of a West Coast road trip would have really enhanced the Twins frequent flyer miles. That's what winners do. Wasn't happening too much last year.
  24. 1. The Meija/Nunez trade should be praised. If the current regime could cash in say Grossman in the same way this year, I'd be okay with that. Last night was a good showcase of a great success for the Twins, but also, to an extent, their failure to develop Meyer. 2. Watching on Gameday, Meyer seemed to have excellent command of his curveball last night, and seemed to throw it a lot. Not sure what it looked like, but he seemed to have pretty good control. My impression was that Polanco and Rosario (and of course Buxton) missed out on some opportunities to cash in. 3. We'd all love if the Twins could acquire a guy like Dyson and turn him around. If we did, I'm sure the Ranger fans would lament their FO's ineptitude. Baseball... 4. The few times MLB TV cut to the game while Meyer was pitching, nothing about his "mound presence" screamed top of the rotation starter. He looked like a big, goofy guy (nice I'm sure) tinkering in his garage, legs awkwardly sticking out from underneath the '65 Mustang he's trying to convert to solar power. For now, he's got that puppy running, but I'm not so sure he can keep it running. I like solar power, though, so I pulling for him. 5. As some above posters predicted, Sano hit one of his fastballs a long way. Not having a healthy Sano was a major factor in the team's lack of mojo against Houston, imo. Big notch in his MVP case, if I was a voter.
