  1. The Dozier-Dodger Grudge match commences. Come on, Brian, show them you were worth more than A Package Consisting of Jose Deleon and Three Extras from "Glee".
  2. Listening, I was thinking to myself that this might be it for Breslow. Demoralizing loss, for sure. Still, this team is so much better than last years. They've gotten up off the mat over and over; let's see if they have another in them.
  3. Kent Hrbek looks a lot like Tom Sizemore. Thanks for posting that video. I'm sitting here thinking how different I must look from my 13 year old self. Boy, without that team, I might not be a baseball fan at all, let alone a Twins fan. Are those graphs team specific? Maybe it is still lingering from last season, but my personal win expectancy was a tad lower there at the end then what the graph shows. Kintzler may yet regress, but I don't think he's even peaked yet. He's making to most of this "opportunity."
  4. Years ago, I worked as a bellboy at the Sun Valley Ski Resort. One of the famous local residents was Arnold Schwarzenegger, and one day while skiing, I found myself riding the chairlift with him. He was quite friendly. Keeping in mind, this was the 90's, and he had recently starred as Mr. Freeze in the horriblest Batman movie ever, he lamented his and other action star's Hollywood typecasting. He told me that to combat this, he, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone had plans to independently produce a serious, dramatic biopic of the great composers of the 19th century. In his booming Austrian baritone, he told me: "Bruce will be playing Tchaikovsky." "Stallone will play Verdi." There was a silence, and so I finally ventured to ask him, "And who will you be playing?" His answer: "Well, of course, I'll be Bach!"
  5. What would an "F" farm system look like? This article doesn't do much for me except give me the vaguest of notions about other team's systems. Also, it only seems to take high profile guys into consideration, be it positive or negative. What criteria would need to be fulfilled for the Twins to move from B- to B? Moving along.
  6. Please refer to your edition of the Twins Daily Primer of Explicit, Agreed Upon Definitions For Productive Discourse. "Major" and "minor" are located on page 123, directly after where the definition of "Ace" ends. Check that--"Blockbuster Trade" is on page 124. In all seriousness, though, I guess I see this as a deal where this FO really doesn't want to get fleeced by giving up the wrong lottery ticket. I'm sure there are plenty of counter-arguments, but I immediately think of a Zach Wheeler for Beltran trade, or a Meija for a year-and a half of Nunez. I have no idea who is actually being discussed, or if my point is even relevant--maybe it is all money and medicals. But if they are haggling about the difference between Lewis Thorpe and Eduardo Del Rosario, that could be pretty "major" down the road. Our opinions may vary when it comes to semantics.
  7. Thaderek really doesn't want to get taken on their first major trade. Dozier redux going on here. Are there any good baseball books that "tell all" behind the scenes? I'd really enjoy reading about what goes on in trade discussions and draft discussions. There was a piece on MLBTR a while ago that detailed Arizona's draft decisions during the Goldschmidt year. It had insight on why the passed on Trout, etc. My point being that we speculate all the time, and some posters even seem to have inside information. I would read with rapt attention a book with blow by blow accounts of how trades go down, what the names were, etc.
  8. Re: the Royce Lewis articles. Would the Twins consider following Borrega's rec and skip Lewis up to Cedar Rapids? Barnes looks like he can be one of those solid if unspectacular guys, or maybe morph into a Taylor Rogers down the line.
  9. Good article. But why do people think the Twins have been especially lucky with sequencing? Is that just assumed when W-L exceeds base runs expectancy? I keep thinking that -25 against the Astros alone represents a lot of BAD luck, and is skewing the expectancy.
  10. Awesome stuff. I am muy tranquility with this pick.
  11. The GCL game was tied the half-inning before it was called. Bummer. This is kind of like one of those murder mystery move deals. Who will be gone come morning time? Probably not Wander Javier. Nice job.Nick Brown struck out 8 n four?
  12. I love loving, but I hate hating. In all honesty, TD is an excellent site where people express genuinely different opinions, opinions that can anger and frustrate those who don't always agree. And yet, at the end of the day we get over it. I have no idea how I rate volume wise as a "liker," but I go out of my way to make sure I like or comment on a post I DO agree with when it comes from someone I frequently DON'T agree with. I suspect many others do something similar. It is a sign of respect, hopefully. The point being, this is how productive discourse occurs amongst mature adults, even when it is just about baseball. Maybe the folks in Washington DC should come visit TD to see how it is supposed to work. Somebody (Einstein? Internet Hoax-Man) once said that prohibition would be the death of democracy, because there would be no public houses where people of differing views could gather to express, with the edge off, viewpoints that differ. TD is that baseball public house. This thread is like a meta-example of all that, in a way. You can feel free to express your positive feelings about negativity, as well as your negative feelings about negativity, which is positively okay too.
  13. This is a job tailor made for Slegers. Steps right into their rotation.
  14. That sounds right. Bullock was traded for Diamond, I think
  15. I pulled these stats on June 24, comparing Hicks and Buxton heading in opposite directions. They kind of illustrate some of the above points. Hicks last 30 games: 261/344/441/(782) Buxton: 253/304/347/(655) Hicks last 10 games: 194/310/278/(588) Buxton: 258/343/387(730) Hicks' Last 20 games since a 4/5, 3-2B, 6 rbi game on June 1: .220 BA, 6 2B, 3 HR (2 in one game) Of course, they're both currently hurt. I expect Buxton to come out raking.
  16. Travis Bowyer and Billy Bullock come to mind at a time like this. Don't even remember who they went for.
  17. It was surprisingly evenhanded. Of course, the Ringer turned around and published an article about contender's needs, and failed to include the Twins. Keep doubting!
  18. My friend, who at age 44 has the same brain tumor as John McCain, is an Indians fan. I doubt if he knows who Clint Frazier is, and if he did, would care that he's gone. He enjoyed seeing the Indians in the World Series. Right now he could probably care less about baseball. Then again, I hope to be watching meaningful baseball with him in October. Fortune favors the bold. As long as you also remember that that boldness is the elixir of the wise, and the alcohol of the fool.
  19. When I was 12 I could dream of being Aroldis Chapman. Now I know I'm more like Kintzler. Speaking of both sports and life, of course.
  20. Vanimal posted this elsewhere, but I thought it was thread worthy. Kintzler is a fast riser in my personal Twins pantheon, and this article explains why. "Kintzler knows how little wiggle room he has, and how steep the drop is if he falters. But he knows the grind too well to do anything but look over the edge and smile." https://theringer.com/mlb-minnesota-twins-atypical-closer-strikeouts-brandon-kintzler-a0178d3a6bd8
  21. Gonsalves needed a lot of pitches to strike out 8 in 5 2/3 innings. Thorpe needed far fewer to K 7 in 7. Just observing.
  22. 3-3 vs. Houston and the Yankees? The Houston series was a huge improvement over the first 4 games with them, and the Yankees series was a huge improvement over the last decade with them. Sano just out-valued Judge in a head to head, and Rogers-Kintzler is as lethal as anyone. They could use help though, on the mound and in their heads. The Yankees kind of threw the whole buying thing right in the Twins face, and to the teams credit, they pulled out a good win, despite fielding an "interesting" lineup... So, the Twins should trade 2 of YOUR favorite prospects, along with Tonkin and Pressly, for Sonny Gray right now, while not touching any of my favorite prospects. I don't know much about the Yankee prospects really, but it doesn't seem like they gave up a ransom necessarily to get their deal done. And, while pitching is the need, it seems like a Shannon Stewart/Cabrera/Hudson type pickup would help. Speaking of Hudson, remember how angry Johan got when they "sold" him off? Am I remembering right?
  23. Wasn't Rutherford a high school corner outfielder taken between picks 17 and 18 in 2016? Familiar sounding profile...
  24. The same geniuses that stole Alex Meyer from the Twins and saddled them with Santiago just replaced an injured Cameron Maybin with Shane Robinson. Yes, that Shane. Tough biz.
  25. I think you should take about Dozier, Santana, and Kintzler off your list. They are old, lucky, and likely to fall off a metaphorical cliff soon. I love this wacky team. Except Pressly. Today, anyway.
