I'm looking forward to the tree replanting ceremony after the work stoppage. Representatives of every faith are invited to come down to TF and de-curse this team.

That's a solid strawman, and you knocked it over perfectly. Well done. Nope. I'm simply suggesting that you can't make better decisions without first getting better decision-makers. Organizational infrastructure matters. Signing Jenkins or Culpepper or anyone else to a long-term contract isn't wise until you have people in your organization who can assess talent, injury risk and future value. But in Twinsworld, that does seem backwards, yes.

Rocco used to look like a beaten stray around this time of year, too. Something about this team can just break a man. The curse of those cut-down Target Field centerfield pines is fierce and brutal.

My guess? If he's in top shape, he won't want to stay a Twin. If he's not, we shouldn't want him to stay a Twin.

I don't either, so don't feel bad. I guess I generally go by projected W/L compared with actual W/L. Maybe also a team's record in extra-inning and 1-run games might tell me something. Sometimes it's just a feel for the game that shows up in very small ways - smart match-ups, players who seem to blossom after some coaching, etc. Something about Rocco signaled a very poor feel for the game. The Twins often seemed out-maneuvered and out-coached. Players seemed uninspired. Excuses for sloppy play were just constant. And that was with a top payroll team in the AL Central. But the results this year are pretty much the same, so maybe the Twins need to rethink the way they assess and hiring a manager.

By the owner's own proclamation, this was a "go for it and win" season. No reload season leaves you with less organizational talent and more question marks than you started with.

I mean, this is a guy who coached in Pittsburgh. He sees the cliff for this team. He knows what's ahead for the next few years.

They shouldn't be building around anyone. They should be building an organizational plan for sustained winning and upgrading their scouting, training and minor league development programs.

I don't think it works that way anymore. And maybe it never did. Athleticism and intelligence improve your defense. Defense improves your pitching. Speed and intelligence improves your plate discipline and your baserunning. Baserunning manufactures runs and good at-bats wear down opponents. Weary opponents give up extra base hits. The whole talent floor needs to be raised on this team. The Angels had Trout and Ohtani in their prime, and they still stunk. No one guy can carry a below-average roster. I don't think the '26 Yankees are a great team, but it's like they're in an advanced league compared to these Twins.

If the Twins don't want these players, why would another team? There is no trade value in this group at this point whatsoever. That's the problem. That is why the roster could be so gummed up in 2027.

Looks like we're entering the sobriety phase. That's good. It's painful, but it's good. I don't think most Twins fans understand the dire position this franchise is now in. Even if Tom Pohlad would spend money, free agency can't usually buy a team out of this kind of talent hole. And for those hoping that a salary floor will help, I think it's more likely that this just leads to the Twins paying double for past-their-prime fringe agents like Bell. A full rebuild desperately needed to have been started this past offseason. As it is, we haven't even taken the first step ... and we no longer have the trade chips to potentially shorten the duration of pain. Rockies, Angels, Pirates, Twins. Teams stuck in purgatory with no ability to capitalize on opportunities to improve. Sad to say, I expect to see at least two of the teams in the playoffs before the Twins can make a return. Good post, Cody. Very much needed.

Reluctantly, I think I have to agree. I didn't like having Rocco at the helm the past few years, but I don't see any real difference in the style of play under Shelton. If I owned this team, I think I'd use the potentially long offseason to look for a promising new GM and then let that GM select a new manager.

Is that a no on Jake Cave?

What about the clubhouse vibes, though? I hope those are still immaculate. Poor Shelty looks like he has aged 15 years in five weeks.

What if the Yankees are historically good next year? That's gonna be confusing.

    Revive his career in NY?

If only Caratini's bat was half as good as his scowl.

We don't need their charity. Wait .. we probably do.

    Seven unanswered runs begins now.

You just wait. Aliens are probably going to land and kidnap Rodriguez in Anaheim.

Good work, Twins. Get their batters right back in the box. That'll wear 'em out.
  23. LastOnePicked
I blame the Guardians reliever for trying to turn him into Quasimodo.

I'm starting to wonder if a lockout is preferable to another Twins season. Might enjoy my late summer and early fall for once.

There is no quit in this team. In that, the disappointments just don't seem to end.
