  1. Those short seasons still count. Now pull up what Buxton does in his partial seasons.
  2. Amazing what can happen when the manager does what we all expect managers to do.
  3. The only thing Dozier proved to me is that home runs in a vacuum don't matter. His best year was the Twins worst year. Also, don't have your home run guy leading off would have been a good lesson to learn, but I think everyone but Molitor already knew that. I'll take 130 OPS+ any way I can get it, it does not need to be from home runs.
  4. "Perhaps not" is being generous. There is no roster crunch.
  5. Woah. I had to look out the window just now to make sure the world had not frozen over. Baldelli pulled Jax in a mid-inning, before the meltdown was done. And, get this, and THEN he did the same thing in the 9th and pulled Coulombe after he coughed up two runs, but before he gave up the lead. What the heck's going on?
  6. All of what I said is correct. Sorry for engaging with you, I'll let you get back at it!
  7. Sano is so terrible. If the Twins can't get rid of him or don't want to get rid of him, fine, but why is he still batting in the middle of the order? Drop him to 9th.
  8. The author is correct -- any of these players could be traded. However, the free agent class this year is very good. It's also fair to say that the Terry Ryan approach of selling everything when something doesn't go right is not going to be popular.
  9. I disagree that the Twins bought low on Astin Martin. Used Astin Martins typically go for half a million, or very near the league minimum salary. The Twins knew they were not getting a new Astin Martin.
  10. Berrios comps to Brad Radke, who ultimately was not difficult to "replace." The problem is, the Twins had Santana then, plus a revolving bunch of other pitchers who were almost as good as Radke. Radke retired at a good time for the Twins. (Although playing good defense can make any pitcher look better.) Right now the Twins have...? The point is, this will be less about replacing Berrios for the Twins. They have to make a lot of big decisions.
  11. That's the problem. Berrios's first year is his worst. Shoemaker's first year is his best. Shoemaker once performed as a #3 pitcher. This last occurred in 2016. For some perspective, in 2016, Obama was President, Abe Vigoda was still alive, and the last VCR rolled off the production line. I'm surprised so many people judged Shoemaker based on what he did half a decade ago, and continue to do so. It took some people less than a minute to look at Shoemaker's numbers and see a train wreck. There is a reason Shoemaker was still available when he was, and it's the same reason he signed for only $2M. Do you think Berrios is going to sign for $2M?
  12. A few things... I can't think of a successful team built on a farm system alone. The Rays, the team name people throw out there when this topic comes up, has a team of players that mostly came via trade. The Twins teams in the 00s transformed into playoff teams only after Terry Ryan began making a few smart trades. Don't forget -- a "farm system" is full of players who cannot play at the MLB level. With some luck, a handful of them will make it to the MLB and a handful of the handful will have successful MLB careers. Any team that leans too much on its farm system is going to fail, it's going to become a AAAA team. We've seen this play out before. The trade deadline deals the Twins made suggest to me that the Twins are not going to change course drastically when it comes to the mix of home-grown v. traded players v. free agent signings. Good.
  13. The only thing I can say to this is, you are looking at the wrong numbers. There is more than adequate proof in the numbers that Shoemaker would not make most teams as a starter. My thoughts to his signing was, oh well, he'll be cut by the end of spring training or he will work from the bullpen as the long reliever. Unfortunately....
  14. I appreciate the positivity. I disagree that he gets better every time he goes out, but he is trending the right direction. I think every Twins pitcher needs to prove himself, even Pineda lays too many eggs for my liking.
  15. Shoemaker was never good, but it's fair to say he has never been this bad. When you are a professional, it is expected for you to speak up if someone is trying to make you do something you know is wrong for you. He learned that ultimately he is responsible for his work, not the people yapping in his ear. He's the one who lost his job. This was just a dumb signing for the Twins. Coaching him like he was a rookie wasn't the first mistake. I would like to see him pitch again for the Twins this year, as I'm really curious about what would happen.
  16. There is a thread on this website titled, "Is Josh Donaldson one of the all-time least likeable Twins?" and it comes up first on google when you search for "Donaldson Twins." There's some "hate" floating around, though that's a strong word. I gained a lot of respect for Donaldson this year. He is performing well on a ship that sunk. If anyone wants to criticize, him leading the league in groundball double plays is a good place to start. Unfortunately, his detractors are not in the habit for criticizing him for anything real.
  17. 92 mph 2 seam fastball, 94 mph 4 seam fastball. Currently getting lit up in AA.
  18. Can't wait to see Woods-Richardson's name on the back of a jersey with the Twins.
  19. That's great, but also sounds a bit made up to me. How many more teams could have possibly called the Twins with anything serious between "last night" and 8:51am?
  20. A lot of us do not want Berrios traded. We could be convinced if the return is good.
