  1. I do often wonder about how much of a role the growth of intercollegiate athletics into essentially a mega-business operated under the auspices of an academic institution has played in this.
  2. My nickel says the pitching and bullpen coaches would be the ones to ask about it . Okay, maybe not Eddie G. I wonder what he did for conditioning drills?
  3. If you're that concerned, maybe you should ask him (Mauer) directly? We don't have much influence over his training regimen.
  4. If it requires a minimum wage of $50/hr or $1000/hr to keep up with the inflationary costs of minimal food and housing, then I guess that's what would be required. It may get to that point some day. But today it's not. So today those aren't the proposals. How would you solve the problem without precipitating an armed revolt? Louis XVI didn't fare to well with that. Neither did George III.
  5. Maybe the best thing is for him to go manage elsewhere. If he winds up with the right kind of team (*cough Marlins cough Rays*) he could be looking for a new job right around the time Molitor is deciding to retire. It's a crap shoot no matter what, but it's clear Doug wants a big-league job and other teams will know it. Maybe it's less important that the first one is here.
  6. Some pretty amazing goings-on this Equinox evening.
  7. A somewhat simpler view of Dr. Carson, but it matches my own.
  8. http://youtu.be/ebt0BR5wHYs
  9. By the way, happy Autumnal Equinox. I plan to follow the ancient Druidic ceremony; drink wine, eat pie, take naps.
  10. That means I'd have to learn to write comprehensible English; oh, wait, you said Game Thread.
  11. Looking like 80-90% chance of thunderstorms all night. Going to be tough to get this one in.
  12. For some completely inexplicable reason, you instead made me think of this song. Maybe it's a sign Buxton is going to bunt.
  13. I think the odds are grim. But being a silver-lining kinda guy what I do see is a lot of these younger guys feeling and dealing with the pressure of a playoff chase; this may make them better when they do it again. I think 'again' will be next season, and maybe many more to follow.
  14. I think the next time I could vote for a Republican Presidential candidate is when somewhen with the stature and will to think for him(her)self of a Colin Powell is that candidate. I always felt the U.S. missed an opportunity with him, but he was too smart to play the game. But he's the kind of person the GOP should be courting with everything they've got. Then perhaps they will do good things for the citizenry, and not just personal ambitions to be king (queen).
  15. I think I read that Milone has a shoulder issue that may keep him shut down for the remainder of the season. Not 100% sure on this.
  16. Nice meeting you folks too. Another fine day out.
  17. Actually it turns out to be a well worthwhile thing. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/min/ticketing/groups/offers.jsp?loc=loveyourmelon
  18. I tried touching my inner self but people started to stare.
  19. I feel exactly the same when going to the theatre to see what that hack Shakespeare wrote this time.
  20. I vote for once every 24 hours.
  21. I'm pretty sure that was the Polish sausage and sauerkraut.
