  1. More like the bubble wrap room than the Doghouse, then?
  2. Is that likely a 15 day DL, or a day to day? Hicks or Rosario, who ya got?
  3. It's all moot now - Trevor May will make his next scheduled start, so let's just sit back and wait for the next wheel to fall off somewhere else...
  4. My hope is for Nolasco to get one more rehab start - then Pelfrey and Milone will get to audition one last time for a rotation spot. If Milone wins, Pelf should go to the bullpen and someone like Stauffer or Boyer should get the axe. If Pelf wins, Milone has an option left, so he should be this year's version of Pino, send him to AAA when the rotation is full, call him up first for injury or ineffectiveness. I think I'd prefer that Pelfrey wins for the moment. But it should be one of those two, rather than May. I could also see an argument for Gibson to be optioned (does he have an option?) to AAA to fix whatever issues he's having.
  5. I thought most of TD's first choice for catcher was Pinto, not Salty, AJ, or Suzuki. So, any teams out there that might take a flier on Salty now? Arizona and the White Sox are the usual suspects ...
  6. Kennys is also a Switch Hitter - however, he's looked terrible at the plate lately. Eddie was the most disciplined hitter on the bench at the time. Vargas was essentially being benched for the game due to his poor play in Seattle. Arcia would've had to face the lefty, and Molitor would rather have Eddie hit against the current pitcher than put in Arcia against a lefty or leave in Robinson against the righty.
  7. It was probably an unspoken understanding. If Griffey was on pace for another 40 homer season, they probably wouldn't be having that breakfast...
  8. Ken Griffey, Jr. was just out of this world good in his prime. One of my earliest Metrodome memories was attending a game in Griffey's rookie season. I went with a group from summer camp and we all made signs for Kirby. Our camp counselor was trying to convince us that Griffey was going to be even better than Kirby and we laughed in his face.... My dad's family is from Ohio and I remember going to see the Reds a few times during summer vacations. Pete Rose had already retired, but he was still the team's manager. Everyone went nuts for him. Eric Davis and Barry Larkin and Paul O'Neill were my favorite players (non-Twins) at the time. The Reds winning in 1990 and the Twins winning in 1991 made me a very happy fan as a kid. I did get to see Tony Gwynn play against the Reds once, that was exciting. I don't remember much from the game. It's fun to think about a 39 year old guy playing pro baseball still wearing his own hat backwards to honor his hero and that later became his friend.
  9. I think Mauer has been and still is one of the smarter hitters in the game. He's shown a willingness in the small sample of this season to pull the ball to beat the shift, and to start swinging at the first good pitch he sees because pitchers have been conditioned to get ahead on him early. He's trained the league to throw him meatballs! It's still really early, but he's looked like his old self more often than not. It remains to be seen if he will start hitting some over the fence again, but it does look like he's making solid contact regularly.
  10. "the entire lineup would bat again" So... it should be 18. Not 9 or 10. However, I will just agree with whatever Vin Scully says.
  11. Probably meaningless in the Pinto debate, but the Twins traded AAA catching depth Danny Rohlfing to the Mets for cash yesterday. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/04/mets-acquire-dan-rohlfing-from-twins.html at AAA, Twins have Fryer, Pinto, and Allen de San Miguel (who is on the 7 day DL) at Catcher. If Pinto is called up, de San Miguel would probably be activated (unless the Twins are sending Herrmann down).
  12. Any impact of this trade on when Pinto will be called up?
  13. Cincinnati - the controversy is Pete Rose may or may not be there...
  14. I don't know how to feel about this, but the Twins have played much better in the games I've missed completely this year. If I start to think that I'm somehow jinxing them . . . NO! I won't believe it. They won 8/10 games I attended last year, so I'm going to cling to that. Good win, Miracles do happen, if Pelfrey can pitch this well, anything is possible.
  15. The old adage that there's no such thing as bad publicity may be put to the test here.
  16. It was great for a catcher - and one of the better offensive seasons for the team...
  17. While the numbers say Carew > Oliva, I still favor Tony O in a completely subjective ballot. Even though it is the same franchise, the Senators get short-changed - It wouldn't upset me if MLB wanted to celebrate the Senators separately to show some love to Sam Rice, Joe Judge, and Goose Goslin as well as Walter Johnson. My list would be Walter Johnson, Harmon, Kirby, and Tony O (with the admission that Carew had better stats).
  18. Could it be that the Twins did not get what they felt was a fair offer for Suzuki before they extended him because his defensive value makes him undesirable to other teams? Did they bid against themselves in signing him in the first place and then again when they extended his contract? Suzuki had a great offensive season last year, and I don't want to diminish his contribution to the team. I just wish that Pinto could share some at bats along with Kurt. If Suzuki's defense is as detrimental the numbers seem to point to - could Pinto really be that much worse?
  19. With articles like this, it might be awhile for Pinto: http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2015/04/21/postgame-twinsights-the-indestructible-kurt-suzuki-just-keeps-ticking/ So... Suzuki's foot was numb for three minutes and he stays in the game to ground out three times and fail to block a couple wild pitches and he is heaped with praise for toughness and being a gamer. I agree that Suzuki is tough and hates to come out of a game, but if a player's mobility is severely limited due to injury, don't you replace that player for at least the rest of that game? Herrmann, meanwhile, hasn't played since injuring his hand... So, Is he maybe also injured? Did Suzuki stay in because the backup isn't healthy? Maybe they should have a player in uniform that can catch if Suzuki is not able to?
  20. Right now he's striking out too much. He doesn't always have to make solid contact to be effective with his speed, but he does need to make *some* contact if he wants to keep his spot in the batting order and ultimately in the lineup. The poor defense and mental mistakes of the team killed the Twins last night, but Santana also blew some opportunities at the plate with some very short at bats in which he looked overmatched.
  21. There's probably something to the theory that slumping offense can influence slumping defense and vice versa - He might be pressing a little bit at the plate because he's thinking about his defensive play or making mistakes in the field because he's dwelling on a bad plate appearance or thinking about the next one. Could he hit better if he's not thinking about his defense? Probably yes. I think that's another reason to stay the course with him playing short stop, at least for now. If he is thinking too much, it's something that he will need to work out. Short Stop is where he has the most value if he can break through. More time in the field and and more plate appearances could be the only thing that will make him more comfortable.
  22. I think promote quickly, and then exercise patience with the promoted player at the MLB level is a consistent approach/argument . Danny Santana wasn't going to play all 162 games, so I think it's not a terrible idea to give him a break when he's had a couple bad days and use that time out of the lineup to re-focus his game in the batting cage and in practice without in-game pressure. I will be surprised if he is indeed benched for an extended period of time. I don't think it's a big deal to insert Escobar for a day or two at SS here and there. Santana is still developing, he can take his lumps for most of the time in the lineup, but also he should get rest days like everyone else. Escobar getting playing time is a good thing, and it won't always be at Santana's expense.
  23. Bringing up Thielbar makes me think it's an actual injury, because I don't think the Twins were really impressed with him in the spring. Tonkin, Pressley, and Achter (maybe not in that exact order) should all be higher on the depth chart... but Thielbar's the only other lefty reliever on the 40 man, right? They would have only had Duensing in the pen if Santana had passed his test, so I don't really get the decision to roll with two lefties (Thompson and Thielbar plus Perk) now...
  24. hrm. I wonder if they thought about bringing up a righty - they still have Aaron Thompson in the pen...
  25. Does he still have that dramatic drop in his hands like the GIF from 2014? Dropping his hands like that it's no wonder that he can't handle the high stuff well. Ships passing in the night and so on. The minors GIF, it's his front foot that's dancing all over the place - his "new" leg kick looks a lot more controlled as a major leaguer. Maybe there's a happy medium for him to keep things a little more steady in the upper half before he makes contact?
