  1. Oh! I made it to the game on the 19th (Tuesday night) - The Hair of the Dog Pub was a great place to get a couple drinks and a snack before the game. The prices inside the stadium were very reasonable (to me anyway, I'm used to the ridiculous MLB pricing...) Saw homers from Buxton and Stuart Turner. Sano made several very good defensive plays. I missed Berrios by a day, though apparently his start was not so hot... http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VVkLrgoFa_A/VVv5ARqiNCI/AAAAAAAAEeo/PNm1XbsmMpw/s400/P1014436.JPG Here's Buxton coming home on that Grand Slam. I missed taking a photo of him actually hitting it, he swung at the first pitch! The Lookouts waiting for him are Adam Brett Walker III (8), Heiker Meneses (5), and Michael Gonzales (50)
  2. How about this hypothetical - are people confident that Santana will pitch better than Pelfrey and Nolasco have to this point? I think he probably will be able to meet or exceed that standard. The Twins should be pretty excited at the prospect of the rotation getting even better in the coming months. Pelfrey in the pen should make the pen better, I agree with that for sure.
  3. Oh yeah... Fien is coming back soon too. Welp - the Twins have too many pitchers! 13 pitchers on the staff as of today, with Fien and Santana coming soon... I did hear on the radio from Rob Antony that they might be reducing that back to 12 pitchers "as soon as things settle down." Might be very soon, given the number of long starts lately. Antony noted that Molitor preferred having 12 pitchers and another bench guy instead of 13.
  4. What is the prevailing thought on Ervin Santana? When he's re-instated, who is the odd man out? Is it Pelfrey, just because he was originally going to be in the bullpen? It would be hard to make the case for any of the guys in the current rotation to lose their job at this point. I agree with others that Nolasco and Pelfrey are not worth much on the trade market. Those two plus Milone are probably worth more to the Twins as depth than they are to anyone else at the moment. If the Twins can get an offer for any of their current pitchers, I hope the return outweighs the value of just keeping all of them. My preference as of today is to have Ervin Santana start, Pelfrey to the bullpen, and Tim Stauffer DFA'd when Ervin is back.
  5. I have enjoyed the interviews with Molitor this season, that's for sure.
  6. They could be 20-9 with Gardy, or 7-22 with Gardy, or anything inbetween. What we know for sure is that Molitor has lead the team to a 16-13 record, the highest winning percentage for the Twins in 5 years. Molitor has done a nice job of putting his players in a position to be successful and protecting them while in a slump (benching Arcia, Santana, and Vargas each for a day or two early on). It seems like a manager has more power to do harm than good. Once the roster is set, much of the success depends on the players. We saw it last year when Molitor was a bench coach, but the team is more aggressive on the basepaths with Molitor than they were under Gardy. Some of that credit goes to Torii Hunter, who has been borderline reckless on the bases early on. That aggressiveness has paid off several times already. I have nothing to do add that hasn't already been said regarding his bullpen usage- again, a little more aggressive than Gardy was in using Perkins, but overall a conservative approach. I would say that Molitor has been successful in doing as little harm as possible to the team, and some of his moves have made the team better.
  7. Hey - Ricky got the win yesterday. That proves he's a "gamer" and "just knows how to win." He had more wins than Phil Hughes, who can't seem to pitch well enough for the Twins to score more runs for him.
  8. Another great series for the Twins! Even the loss was a good game.
  9. you'd prefer... Duensing? Graham? Pressley? I'm not seeing a compelling case for anyone in the current pen to pitch the 8th (unless Perk can go 2 innings).
  10. Nice! Vargas seems to turned things around - his plate discipline is back!

  12. Another nice plate appearance for Dozier, he's not hitting for a great average so far this year, but he's still grinding out the at bats and getting on base.
  13. great to see Kennys draw a walk instead of chasing that off-speed stuff!
  14. And, I think, this was the same technology they used to show how much ground Jarrod Dyson and Lorenzo Cain covered in the OF during the playoffs last season.
  15. If they do, I don't want to see how Escobar rates - might break the machine.
