  1. If the Pohlads want to boost their payroll by $20 million a year I'd have no problem with that. But they won't, so if I want to see the Twins return to relevance they'll need to spend their money more wisely than they have recently. White Sox fans don't worry as much about payroll because the Sox are willing to go after players like Dunn and Rios.
  2. http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/dewey-truman.jpg
  3. It certainly was a weak crop of FA starters. There really wasn't anyone on the market that was going to put this rotation over the top so I can't really fault TR for not signing more of them. But even with a healthy Baker and Pavano this rotation was mediocre at best.
  4. He'll still be on the air, he just won't be obligated to butter up the Twins organization at every opportunity.
  5. Agreed, but you have to add: - bad player development - bad coaching - bad scouting and evaluation of their own players (e.g. RA Dickey, Kevin Slowey) - bad training and medical staff Bad trades? Out of the three pitchers the Twins received in the Santana trade, two never made a start for the Twins and are now gone, and the third is a full-time reliever now.
  6. Sports talk radio guy Mackey is knocking down his own straw man here. Most fans are smart enough to know that the Twins don't need to spend more money, they need to get better players.
  7. If this was a foot race Nishioka would be leaving Mike Lamb in the dust.
  8. There's lots of guys out there who aren't Nishioka. But seriously, the Twins shouldn't be in the market for anybody who won't be around for the next contending Twins team.
  9. This is interesting stuff, John, but if all this is true then I like the Nishioka signing even less now.
  10. I knew that T-Mobile girl was Canadian when she said in the commercial "video chat withoot needing Wi-Fi."
  11. It looks like everybody from Pago Pago is tied for the Pago Pago doubles record with zero. Not many MLB players coming out of there. Several NFL players, though. http://www.famouswhy.com/Born_Where/Location/Pago_Pago_American_Samoa.html
  12. Dozier's been lucky because the Twins are shallow in the middle infield. If he played anywhere else the Twins would have sent him back down by now, like Danny Valencia and Clete Thomas.
  13. But Gardy doesn't like him. I get the feeling that the trade wasn't about getting something in return, it was about getting rid of Danny. Like the Kyle Lohse trade. If I was TR, and Boston claimed Valencia, I'd ask for a pitcher. And if I couldn't get a pitcher, I'd just keep Valencia for now.
  14. I can totally axe-kick those things but I don't want to show off. Also I don't want any extra germs on my shoes.
  15. Well, they do fill up over time if nobody flushes them. I usually use my sleeve or something but I still feel icky about it.
  16. Hey, at least with the troughs we didn't have to touch the flush handle on the urinal that everybody else had touched between relieving themselves and washing their hands.
  17. Not to worry, we'll still have Jamey Carroll under contract for another year plus an option for a third.
  18. I don't think it's impossible... but I also don't think many, if any teams want to take the chance that the Twins could just let them take on Morneau's contract.
  19. I'm not so sure that Morneau, what with another year and $20 million on his contract, wouldn't clear waivers.
  20. I'm not crazy about Revere as a starting corner OF, platoon or not.
  21. I don't think Revere needs a platoon compliment. He hits RH and LH pitching about the same.
  22. Twins might consider going after mid-level free agents? Ryan and Gardenhire are beloved by the organization? This is groundbreaking work by Shooter. Honestly I think he just dug out a column from five or six years ago and reprinted it.
