  1. That this is even a topic speaks volumes about what fans have come to expect from this organization... is there any team that loves their warm fuzzies as much as the Twins? Could we get Cuddyer back too?
  2. Great news for Al Green.
  3. In my mind there is a difference between a horrible person and a jackass. It is Torii's right to believe what he wants. If he does so publically, I have the right to dislike him for it. I'm not accusing Torii Hunter of being a scumbag and I would never encourage others to mail dead animals to him. However, I also did not participate in standing ovations for him. And then there's Mark Kotsay. Smooth move, Torii.
  4. It's a good thing that the decision to bring him back or not was taken out of the Twins' hands. I'd never say he was a favorite of mine, but he was a very good player for a long time.
  5. Maybe, but all the alcohol vendors will be cannibalizing eachother and they all will make somewhat less.
  6. The thing with adding bars... assuming that booze was available and plentiful enough that everyone was getting lubed up to their preference, you're really not going to make more money by adding more bars. There's a point of diminishing returns that I think we're quickly approaching.
  7. I was trying to be clever with the timing of this thread.
  8. Let's just say that, between AJ and Zuke, most TD posters could steal bases at 80%. (Plus or minus 20%).
  9. http://mweb.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/25350518/inside-baseball-ins-and-outs-of-mattinglys-exit-skipper-searches-and-more Per Heyman. Twins fans, would you still boo him?
  10. You mentioned Berrios's size as a reason he was not called up in 2015. What evidence do you have that there is a relationship between pitcher size and effectiveness and/or durability?
  11. I think the contract we gave Dozier, plus that creepy full-size cardboard cutout of him they sent to season ticket holders means that we're married to him and he's not going anywhere. I'd listen on trade offers for him, though. Trading Plouffe seems more likely, but in my perfect world he'd stick at third, Sano would play first, and Mauer... well, I don't care.
  12. Fun fact- Cy Young was 8'6".
  13. http://sabr.org/research/does-pitcher-s-height-matter Not claiming that this is the end-all of the argument, but what research has been done regarding pitchers' height and effectiveness/durability is thoroughly inconclusive. That is to say, there is no statistical evidence that taller pitchers are generally better pitchers.
  14. I would guess it was more about service time than height. If Berrios pitched exactly the same and was seven feet tall, he still wouldn't have been up.
  15. I've also heard that taller pitchers are less injury-prone because there's less strain on their arm. I don't buy that one either.
  16. Is there really a correlation between pitcher height and effectiveness? I ask because it always seems to come up when projecting Berrios. I get that JO is like four feet tall in heels, but Johan wasn't real tall. And for every Randy Johnson there's a bunch of Mike Pelfreys.
  17. Hughes drastically outperformed expectations in 2014. That shouldn't have become the new expectation going forward. He always gave up lots of home runs. That was the book on him. No, Hughes is not an ace, and he'll never be 2014 good again. That's why the contract extension was an unnecessary mistake. I'm not saying he should be arrested for that. Hughes belongs in a major league rotation, but by no means is he a #1.
  18. What are you talking about? If Mauer thought a different hitting coach could help him return to form, Joe Vavra was right there. You know, the hitting coach from when Mauer was good.
  19. It is possible the Twins could trade Nolasco, but only if the return was a player on a comparably bad contract. I will agree with you though that he will be given every opportunity if he's still on the team to begin the 2016 season. If he's healthy enough, he'll be given a rotation spot.
  20. I could throw out fantasy scenarios, but long-time Twins fans know that the plan to improve the rotation is to pray that Hughes is better, that Nolasco is almost adequate, and that Berrios can provide a boost once his service clock has been delayed.
  21. Bautista swings too hard... and did you see that bat flip? Certainly not the Twins Way. Also, Cuddyer once accused J-Bat of using roids.
  22. The contract is a problem if the Twins insist on running Mauer out there at first base while there might be better options. It's not outlandish to look at Mauer's production and expect more. "We're paying him too much to not play him" just sounds like the old cheapskate Twins rhetoric. If there was a MLB minimum first baseman to be had who could best Mauer's meager offensive output, it's in the team"s best interest to move Joe aside.
  23. Why Morneau? Why not any other first baseman of questionable value? We do love the prodigal son homecoming one-of-us angle in this town... but no, I wouldn't.
  24. Big Pappy was a better minor league hitter than Walker, and was a successful major league hitter before the Twins cut bait on him. Not to argue with you in particular, but every time the Twins have to make a roster decision on an all-bat no-field type, we worry that he may turn into the next Ortiz, unlikely as that may be. Arcia's out of options, so if the Twins want to keep him he'll need to be on the 25-man. If they don't, have fun watching him hit 500 home runs for some other team.
  25. I'd be just fine if the Twins stay out of the Rule V draft this year. They dragged Graham along all season when there were probably better relievers to be had.
