  1. Well, we do have a Simmons in our lineup, and a Serta sorta in Sano. Don't sleep on Sano this year. Better yet, don't let Sano sleep on you. That would be curtains for sertan, er, certain.
  2. And here we go. Ohio State University versus Oral Roberts! Oops, wrong game. My sister-in-law would not forgive me if she saw this comment.
  3. Three innings pitched, seven earned runs. Is that a door opening for Mr. Dobnak?
  4. I like today's lineup. I'd like to see Buxton start heating up. Kirilloff is in there. So is Astudillo, playing right field. There's that versatility. Nelson Cruz can't do that.
  5. Too many paradoxes with that guy. You can never get a straight answer out of him. Or wrong Zeno?
  6. It's shocking how fast Kyle Gibson dropped off of my personal radar. And after so many years of pulling for him to put it all together, and sustain it. Good for him. No regrets here though. Changes of scenery can be good for all.
  7. OK, but you can see the potential here. Call it glass three-quarters full. (Sorry.) Give Turtle time. I wouldn't be surprised to see Falvey, Levine, and Rocco do so. It's still early, of course, but I can see the Twins keeping Arraez, Rooker, and Astudillo as three of our subs. I think Garlick gets strong consideration. Broxton can opt out, right? That's another tough call. A question for TD readers: Faster in a footrace -- Jim Thome or Nelson Cruz?
  8. You're a known Turtle skeptic, mister three-quarters, but the terrapin shall prove you wrong. I still remember that beautiful snap throw to first base to catch the guy two years ago. I like his energy and versatility. His head always seems to be in the game too. He may not be a great catcher, but he's more than a "catcher." I'm still not ready to call Nelson Cruz an outfielder though. Even I run faster than he does. Maybe.
  9. "Catchers" in quotation marks? Now that's just a gratuitous knock on the Turtle. Funny, perhaps, but totally uncalled for. I was just thinking this morning how little respect Dobnak and Willians get from this TD crew. I won't guarantee any All-Star appearances (maybe for Dobnak, if all the pieces fall into place), but these guys are solid contributors. I suspect we'll all be cheering their accomplishments before the year is through, and maybe for many years after (Dobnak again). Love the math -- great observation. Kudos to both you and SSOO. (SSOO -- reminds me of the name of an old Peter Gabriel recording. We have the Boomstick. Now where's our Sledgehammer?)
  10. It's cognitive dissonance, with an "i," if we're scoring for accuracy. Just throwing that out there I'm one who has expressed my support for the current front office, but it's not because I necessarily think they're exemplary humans. I'm not in a position to say. I do think they've shown signs of being exemplary baseball + businesspeople. As such, they know what Kirilloff may be capable of and are in the best position to make the call on what to do with him. I trust them not to needlessly antagonize one of our potential future cornerstones. If Kirilloff does earn a spot in camp and they still hold him back, I'll chalk it up to the front office deciding the extra year of control outweighs the ill will they'll earn. Interestingly, Buxton may serve as an interesting test case of the wisdom of holding back a player. Will he let bygones be bygones and re-up? We'll soon find out. Ultimately, I think the system needs to be changed so that no one -- ballplayer or front office -- is put in this position. I think that's something we all agree on.
  11. Arraez and Rooker platooning to begin the year, with Kirilloff given a chance to make the position his own a month or two into the season. What happens in left field should be fun to watch. I liked Eddie at the plate, but tired of his casual play in the field. I don't think we'll see any of that from these guys.
  12. In one scenario last month, A. Gleeman used Luis Robert and Eloy Jimenez as comps to arrive at a six-year deal worth 46 million or so, with reasonable team options for years seven and eight. This is his high estimate, given the higher prospect status of the two Sox. So, not cheap, but not breaking the bank for eight years of control. It depends on whether you're willing to bet on Kirilloff's upside. If you hold off, and he takes off, all bets are off on much it will cost to retain him. I like our chances that Twins management will make the right call.
  13. And I see that you've covered this service time extension idea in the video, Tom. Great work. Love the enthusiasm for Rooker. Great to hear that he's heading into the season healthy. That break last year was so untimely. I'd love to see the Twins find a way to keep both guys up out of the gate.
  14. Make service time a non-issue. Extend Kirilloff now. Problem solved!
  15. But Lou Gehrig, now that's a different story. Because even dead, you half expect the Iron Horse to show up and play. Little-known fact: Gehrig's other nickname was Biscuit Pants. Take that, Mr October Reggie Jackson. Biscuit Pants is in da house!
  16. "I don’t really want to receive hate mail so I’ll keep him at the number four slot." Maybe if this was Phillies Daily, but I think you're on solid ground here, Matthew. I'm with you pretty much the entire way, especially the idea of a combo Odo-Dobnak no. 5. I like Berrios when he's on his game, but I'd like a very short lease if he's my number 3. I'm also a little queasy about Hill, but there aren't (m)any no. 4 starters with a stronger playoff history. I'd love for one of the middle starters to turn it on and become lights-out this postseason, but I'm not sure who the best candidate is. Maybe Jose starts to feel it? Could we see Dobnak turn it around again? My biggest hope is that Maeda and Pineda keep doing what they've been doing of late. Two rocks heading into the postseason would be a treat we haven't had in a long time.
  17. I haven't read all of the previous comments, so apologies in advance if I'm repeating what others have said. I'm more than ready for an electronic strike zone. Especially in a shortened season like this one, every at bat is magnified in importance. The number of indefensible balls and strikes calls has been appalling. I found myself amused, supportive, and horrified all at the same time over what Donaldson did. I regret that he did it, but I totally understand why he did so. Ideally it will end up lighting a fire under this team.
  18. I'm still a fan. I think he'll adjust and be a Twin for a long time. I love the way he goes about his business.
  19. I'd still be loving the Bosox struggles, but the attempted sabotage makes the love a bit stronger. Maeda has been terrific.
  20. Thome was a terrific signing a decade ago.
  21. Hard to believe today's game marks 80% of the season completed. I anticipate another strong performance from Big Mike. Yesterday the bottom of the lineup got us going early. Today I expect Mr Kepler and his buddies at the top of the lineup to shine. Bring out yer dead... I mean brooms.
  22. My picks to click, in order: Arraez, Rosario, and Donaldson. Latter two going yard.
  23. Poppen, fresh? The Pillsbury Doughboy would approve. Eddie is like the older brother you love, but man are they maddening. Always giving you a noogie even when it's way past funny. I agree we may see a new left fielder next year. Rooker has looked pretty promising so far, and we have the two higher-rated corner outfield prospects right behind him. I'd love to see Eddie turn it on here, as I've been a fan of his since day one. It's those dang noogies I can live without! That game 1 lineup looks strong. Not our best, but getting closer.
