  1. it can't really be about Iowa ....can it?
  2. Oops, TCU, not Texas Tech, having Bowl nightmare flashbacks. You're right though, tough sledding no matter.
  3. I thought this was about the Big Ten? It's not?
  4. On another note, as nice as it would be for the Gophers to go 3-0 it is not worth Leidner playing and getting hurt even further, risking the B10 schedule. I can't see him playing, Jerr is playing games. In tough against Texas Tech anyway.
  5. Iowa fans now?……..really? I used to like this place.
  6. Would you expect any different from Redmond, honestly? Stanton was not hit intentionally, if Redmond believes that then I've lost a little respect for him. Johnson got pretty much the same pitch but probably where the first was supposed to go, he started to offer at it, tried to check his swing and it hit him in the hands, strike three, he's out, pretty simple.
  7. I think Gomez getting clipped was a form of payback, so is it wrong to think this could escalate? The mentality around these types of things was perfectly exemplified listening to Tommy Hutton imploring and applauding the Marlins to leave the bench after Johnson was hit, it was ridiculous.
  8. Enough young guys with upside to keep me interested as well as some more in the pipeline to come next year. Combine that with Hughes, Dozier, Mauer and Perkins and I'll still watch.......mostly.
  9. Speaking French, references to the CFL and the Twins win? Of all the game threads to miss!!!
  10. How many great books on leadership advocate fighting somebody as an example?..........None that I've read. It's amazing how sports are so often allowed to fall outside of what is socially acceptable everywhere else while hiding under the cliches of machismo and bravado.
  11. Well most of the same FO knew enough about baseball when Rick Anderson was a coach on their winning teams. They also have a much better idea than any of us who Anderson really is and how good a coach he is, let's be real about that. Keeping or firing Rick Anderson has nothing to do with understanding baseball and quite conceivably could have no effect on the team's results next year. I think it is disrespectful to question the baseball intelligence of a group of people based on criteria you feel is more valid than theirs. This is coming from someone who feels it probably is time to move on from Anderson.
  12. Apparently the manager of the first place Angels isn't a very good bullpen manager by some logic here. Scioscia trotted out 19 relievers over the 4 game series to Gardy's 18. I don't have an issue with the way Gardy manages the pen in the grand scheme of things. I was at all four games against the Angels and it was a combination of bad pitching, bad pitchers and some aggresive, opportunistic hitting by the Angels, who happen to be a very good team. There is a lot of dead wood in there right now but I expect some significant turnover this winter, the team has enough potential reinforcements to keep the pen effective next season.
  13. Liverpool back on track, nothing like clobbering a team from London......unless it's clobbering a certain team from Manchester not called City.
  14. Eliminate the clock Chief? Really? I think the return of the 4 corners offense and teams passing the ball 950 times before attempting the winning shot in a 13-12 game just might kill college hoops. I'm a big fan of college bkb but I think the shot clock and the 3 pointer have overwhelmingly contributed to the growth in the games popularity. I think we'll see a 30 second clock before too long.
  15. Concur, the Braves are a pretty good team and he was the odd man out. He's been a good stopgap so far but if the Twins are looking to be more competitive it shouldn't be with the likes of Jordan Schaefer on their bench.
  16. I don't think the stats tell any real part of the story of that game. After the first quarter the Gophers moved the ball pretty efficiently and they were clearly working on passing the ball, Cobb only carried 14 times the entire game, very unlike last year. I thought the offense did a steady job and should only get better. The defense was fine, a blocked punt for a TD and 3 turnovers is a good game against anyone. Couple that with 4 true freshmen playing on the D-line and all E Illinois points coming in garbage time, they were pretty dominant. No big plays and despite pilling up yardage E.I. were never much of a threat to score, the Gophers shut them down and made the plays when it mattered.
  17. AAA has never been his problem.
  18. Fully agree and they need to move the 3 point line back, even Canadian University is further out. That line is a simple jump shot for a lot of guys.
  19. Yeah, because had the Twins gone on to lose they would have missed out on going to the World Series......
  20. I prefer the college game but I wouldn't disparage the NBA, those guys are supremely talented. Personally I find the NBA just a bit plodding at times, it's much more of a half court game for the most part, I like how the college kids race around everywhere despite them not being anywhere near as good.
  21. Tell the truth, you're still bitter about the Sonics leaving, aren't you?
  22. I believe we may have been responsible for at least 10 runs,.....clearly.
  23. Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool....LIIIVVVEERRRRPOOOOOOL!!! Go you Reds!
