    Gophers!!!!! Defense has been coming together for a couple of years now, 2013 was a significant year for them ranking 25th nationally in points allowed, first time since 2004 they allowed under 300 points. Yes Michigan is struggling but let's make note that David Cobb and the O-line just trampled over what was previously the 9th ranked run defense in the country. Perhaps too high but still very notable.

    The Wild don't deserve to be lumped in there. They're actually a playoff team and not a bad one at that. With some solid goaltending that team could make some noise. Sorry, not thread jacking into hockey discussion.......he started it.

    Great book, one of the most interesting I've read in awhile as well.

    I enjoyed all of Dirk Hayhurst's books, The Bullpen Gospels, Out Of My League and Bigger Than the Game. They're all a pretty light read but quite funny with some interesting insights. 8 Men Out, The story of the 1919 Black Sox Don't Look Back,( best story of Satchel Paige) A Day In The Bleachers Wherever I Wind Up (R.A. Dickey) Agreed on Ball Four, a must read.

    Gardy's quote was actually "going to get better around here". Going, as in future tense, he didn't say "are better", which would indicate the team has been more successful. There are some exciting, encouraging players here already and the best ones are still to come, hopefully at some point next season. With a decent FA signing or two in the off season (LF, CF, possibly a pitcher), it's hard not to envision some better things for this team in the near future.

    Not so much if it's not your HR leader, which Dozier shouldn't be. I'm really not concerned, he's still driving the ball and he's proven he has the ability to make adjustments, quite possible he does again. If he settles in as a low to mid. 700 ops guy with an increased BA, combined with his plus defense, I'll be happy.

    I think the key is the ball hit Johnson in the hand while in the act of swinging. He may not have swung through but he started his swing and his hands were arguably in the strike zone, that's a dead ball strike. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the rule by definition.
