  1. It seems to me all that waiting around is always a disadvantage to the home SP. They should take that into consideration when they have stuff like that
  2. Yeah, he's got a tired arm, he's been throwing too much.
  3. The delay really sucks I was hoping to get a full game in
  4. Rich Hill would be a LHSP that can pair with a RHP. Plus his mentorship would be very valuable for our young pitchers.
  5. As a starter Varland is good 2X thru the order (that may vary depending on the top of the order) so that may last 4-6 innings, I think that if he piggy-backs he could last longer overall depending on where he comes in the order & the team he faces & finish the game. Saving the BP.
  6. CLE is noted for playing small ball, I liked what Lewis said "We out-balled them" Those 2 were perfect examples. It seems that Vazquez is just warming up. Sands & especially Thielbar were life-savers in what turned out to be BP game.
  7. That was great! Wasn't it? Varland was being Varland, You know what you'll get with Varland, 2 very good Xs through the order. The 3rdX is when batters catch up to him, especially at the top.
  8. Can any explain to me how Vazquez could score from 1B when Martin couldn't make it 2B?
  9. Thank you for that link. It brought back memories that Dobnak wasn't even supposed to make the active roster. The new slider was the determining factor and to show how much faith he had in Dobnak he started out in the pen & used only in mop-up situations. Here's an interesting article about Dobnak in '21, that I just came across. https://www.twinkietown.com/2021/6/28/22550237/mlb-minnesota-twins-dobnaks-adjustments-backfired-lower-release-new-slider-run-values-command-homers You seemed to miss that Dobnak threw 2 different sliders in '21. In '20 he threw only the old slider. You failed to distinguish in '21 between the old & new slider. The old slider caused no concerns but the new slider which he barely started with very little conditioning that causes extreme pressure on the middle finger posed great danger. That's the kicker you missed. I read a wise saying currently that I believe is true "Stats will say anything you want if you torture it enough" It's tiring to give stats when the ones who clamor for them, ignore them.
  10. Ober is making a believer out of me, great game! Duran strikes out the side, nice. A must win, won. Go Twins
  11. That's what I meant by the Twins wrecking Dobnak. Dobnak just started spring training experimenting with a new slider using it sparingly yet he had very good success with it. The Twins salivated over Dobnak's new slider, offered Donak a nice extension & envisioned Dobnak to set the league on fire with a new new slider-heavy pitching plan. Of course, Dobnak took the offer & was obligated to adopt the new plan. The quick overuse caused Dobnak to lose control & command of that pitch & permanent damage to the tendon of that finger. Before spring training with all the Happ & Shoemaker hype, Dobnak was not considered to make the rotation much less offered an extension.
  12. Lewis is once in a lifetime talent. Besides all the tangible assets he presents there's a lot of intangible ones that are a real game changer. IMO spending big money on big FAs is throwing money away at a crap shoot. Investing in a inhouse asset is a much better option. If properly managed his ACL problems should be behind him, His soft-tissue vulnerability should run its course & shouldn't be an issue. Boris's shine has soured with his clients. With poor Lewis's injury history, his desire to stay with the Twins & doubt on Boris's strategy, this could be the last & best chance to keep Lewis in the Twins' future. Situations in recent history have helped to sign & extend game changers Buxton & Correa. Here is our opportunity to extend Lewis, if we don't make at least a reasonable offer (whatever that is) we'll live to regret it.
  13. Dobnak's extension was good. The problem is that the Twins wrecked him by forcing him to be something he wasn't. If they had left him alone, that contract would have been reasonable.
  14. Castro is a true super-utility player. A player that any serious & intelligent team like LAD would highly value & lock up as soon as possible. IMO Castro should have extended last offseason very reasonably having a non-Boris agent. His valuable versatility adds quality depth all over the field, he even plays a very good ss but he's over-extended there & over time it wears him down. His offense is impressive that can be utilized from both sides of the plate. He adds a new dimension to the Twins' base-running. Together with all this, he adds valuable durability which is a rare quality these days. Even though he made the All-Star game he's underrated & should be a very reasonable extension for a tight budget.
  15. I was hoping so much that we'd have Correa in the CLE series. Kinda bummed that it appears that it won't happen
  16. Mentorship & clubhouse presence is very important. It's a mystery to me how Farmer could be so bad this season. Hope he straightened it out.
  17. I wasn't going to comment on Jeffers but I'm going to anyway. Catching is a very grueling position, many never make it on the MLB level. Jeffers is a very good-hitting MLB catcher but he has to work very hard at being an average defensive catcher. He hasn't proved to me yet that he has what it takes to be a primary catcher especially having the necessary stamina. What concerns me most is when he wears down his hitting & especially his defense takes a hit. IMO it'd be beneficial for Jeffers if they'd dial back his catching especially as Vazquez appears to be hitting better the longer he plays. Another thing that really bothers me is the lack of depth behind these guys.
  18. Times have changed, pitchers are throwing harder, and with more spin they can't take the innings that some pitchers were able to do in the past. SPs who pitched a lot of innings one season are rarely able to repeat the next year. Each pitcher are different at different stages. I would have really liked to have some pitchers to do some spot starting the last 2 days against the Cubs. Pushing back Lopez & Ryan 2 days so they could start against CLE. Not only having them available for CLE but also giving the rotation a much needed rest entering this series. In the beginning of the season, Paddack was heralded as Gray's replacement forecasting him to be able to pitch 150 innings, Paddack has quickly hit a wall, SWR is close to it, Lopez felt out of whack, could that because of being weary, Ryan normally hits a wall this time of year, Festa is a rookie who needs to be taken slower. Even Ober IMO could use a breather. If you want to maximize the quality & quantity of innings pitched they have to be better managed
  19. Hill is a smart pitcher with a ton of experience, I'd have liked to sign him before now as SP depth (because it'll take a little while to get him ramped up) & a great mentor for our SPs.
  20. Not only would it have been nice to have some serious long relief here to put in some serious innings to take care of the bleeding but also some long relief could have possibly prevented it from happening. I have been preaching this for years but nobody listens. If Dobnak can't do it bring up Varland now. I really didn't want him to have be used strictly as a SP when we desperately need him in long relief but we might not have a choice. When the bleeding starts it sometimes hard to stop it.
  21. Martin is naturally an OB machine. Once he gets the swing of things on the MLB level, he'll raise a lot of havoc on the bases.
