  1. Control is the ability to throw his stuff for strikes & not be wild. Command is not only the ability to throw strikes but also locating the pitch where you want it for a strike that's not down the middle.
  2. I'm so very sorry for your loss. I'm sorry that I didn't discover this thread sooner. My prayers of comfort for you, & to all of Broomy's family & friends. It's so very hard to understand sometimes how a person with so much to live for could resort to such an action but it happens too often. No matter what our views are, we are here to help. I, too, would like to encourage everyone who needs help to reach out. You don't have face whatever you are going through alone.
  3. IMO, SWR has cemented himself into the rotation by who he is. Which is an established competitor, someone who is mature beyond his age, able to adjust during the game, having an understanding of what's around him, untaunted by teams like NYY, humble & able to keep his team in the game. As I've said before, IDK where his ceiling is at. There are some that may have a higher ceiling, but he has proven that he belongs in a winning rotation & stays there until others have established themselves, which they haven't yet. I'd like to add that Zebby's performance against NYY has proven he's not ready yet. We'll see with Bradley, how he'll pitch against NYY if he's ready.
  4. Twins did a fantastic job coming out of a 9-run hole Zebby dug. The BP have been surprisingly good against the NYY. Against the horrid NYY's BP we are asking our SPs not to be horrid so we can win the game against our nemesis. Hats off to Larnach on a great game & almost winning the game for us. Just coming short, dead center. I'm not a fan of Outman yet, but I can't see the value of him being in the bottom 3 WPA for the Twins. WPA has no value, so why keep posting it?
  5. The Yankees are notorious for stealing signs & I question how legal their process is. They'll do anything for an edge. Twins have to school better against it (last game I thought they had). I wouldn't mind a fastball to NYY ribs.
  6. ??? I'm glad we agree that Twins don't have the ability to develop catchers. But I have great difficulty correlating your statement that not hiring good catching coaches does not show a lack of priority. To me, the fact that Falvey hires & promotes so many coaches who adhere to his analytics shows his real priority is his analytics. Development is only one of a few areas in which I question his present priority in catching.
  7. The signing of Jason Castro, coach Tanner Swanson & then later Vazquez after trading most of our very good catching core away, I can't dispute the value that Flavine put on catching in the beginning, but more control that Falvey has taken over, the less I see. Why didn't they value Swanson's value of developing catching & promote him, instead of letting him walk? Since he left, the Twins haven't developed a single catcher. Congers is a joke. At the premium positions, they have drafted quite a few SSs & some CFers in the 1st round. How many catchers have they drafted in the 1st round? NONE. In the last few years, how high have they drafted a catcher? With Vazquez's contract up & Jeffers's FA coming up, where is the Twins' backup plan? There should have been a backup plan years ago. What good is it to draft low draft prospects if we can't develop them? What good is it to trade for a prospect that isn't expected to come up to the MLB for another 3 yrs or if it's possible that the Twins can even develop him into a catcher? When we need a MLB primary & backup catcher NOW! IMO, this isn't giving catching any priority, so we can be a competitor; it's what we can do so we can just scrape by at this position & say we did something.
  8. IMO, Twins had many opportunities to bring up Pereda, but instead went with Gasper, especially when Vazquez went down. Like many times before, they don't do the right thing until they are forced to. If Jeffers hadn't gone down, Pereda would still be in AAA.
  9. Our catching is a mess. Falvey loves Jeffers, but I can't see (& don't blame) the Pohlads OKing the hefty extension that Jeffers would demand. That leaves Falvey trading Jeffers for something rather than losing him for nothing. Gasper isn't a MLB catcher & Pereda is only a 3rd catcher. That leaves MN with 2 big holes that Falvey won't fill. What really bugs me is Falvey's lack of priority at catcher.
  10. Rortvedt has been a pretty good veteran defensive catcher. It'd take some time to undo what MN & NYY have done with him as far as hitting. Maybe LAD has straightened him out & is worth the shot. I'd do it in a second.
  11. We have been in contention for many years. The main problem that kept us from fulfilling those dreams is Falvey. His failure to see some of our weaknesses as strengths (so he doesn't add), some of our strengths as weaknesses (so he replaces them with inferior) & his delusion of grandeur. He is never wrong, so he has to find scapegoats to place the blame. Therefore, everything that is done is only cosmetic & sometimes makes it worse. Now, basically laying the blame on the players (yes, the players were disappointing, but we have to ask, why?) The sell-off has completely gutted our team (especially the BP). How can you even fathom that this roster with Falvey at the helm can possibly do anything more than compete with CWS for the cellar? If Falvey can't put together a competing team with a '23 core, how can he do anything with a broken one? I believe in our players; it'd be very difficult to find a SS better than Lee (looking in-house, trade, or God forbid FA). Miranda, a very good pure hitter) has been our best option at 1B for the last couple of years & should have been preserved, developed & encouraged to be our 1Bman. IMO, we shouldn't have looked outside the system. But now Miranda looks broken, so maybe now we need to look outside the system. IMO, Clemens has proven to me he deserves to be on the roster, but before we go outside the system again, I'd like to give one of our guys a shot there. Maybe Lewis, Wallner, Keaschall, Larnach or Fedko, 1st. If Falvey is replaced with someone who knows what he's doing, even then, it's difficult for me to see that he'd be able to undo all the damage that has been done for '26.
  12. Twins made me very happy by beating the NYY. SWR pitched a gem; he got guts & a good head on his shoulder. Hope he convinced any skeptics. The BP also pitched well, which leads me to think that somehow the Twins had turned the tables on NYY's stealing signs. The kids had fun tonight. Lee surprises us with RH power. Martin came through big on both sides of the field. I'm still praying for a sweep. Can we do it with the remaining rotation & BP? It remains to be seen. Maybe NYY unravels, I hope so.
  13. The Twins' reluctance to use him, maybe was the sign that maybe we found a passable MLB catcher.
  14. Back when Buxton was approaching his FA. The talk was that Buxton didn't want to stay because the Twins screwed him over. Although it was true that the Twins screwed over Buxton, but it was a lie in that he wanted to leave. The hang-up wasn't about Buxton not wanting to stay or about money. It was about Buxton seriously wanting a no-trade clause & Falvey absolutely didn't want one. Why? Why wouldn't he want to sign a MVP-type player who really wanted to stay & didn't care about money? Why is there is so much talk about Buxton wanting get out of his no-trade clause? Why are the Twins are so quick to trade players that are very dedicated to the Twins (ex, Dozier & Varland). Through all this talk, Buxton has made it clear that he's very faithful, that's who he is. This talk is not coming from him. I'm sure there has been a ton inquireries from FOs that highly value Buxton's worth with players that'd make Falvey salvate. It'd be very understandable if he no longer wanted to be a part of this regime (I wouldn't), but he's not saying this. So until it comes out of his mouth, I'm not going to believe what social media says.
  15. Good question, Cody. My answer, face value is no. Falvey will only hire someone worse. Rowson is a very good hitting coach & Sheldon is a very good bench coach, but will they make good managers? IMO, no. But they make better candidates than those Falvey would choose. IMO, Tingler is more likely a person he'd choose. Who's the real one to blame? Who holds the power? Who is in control? Who shapes the philosophy? Who should be held accountable? The answer is Falvey. Do you want him to stay? Only if Falvey has a come-to-Jesus moment. That he gets the revelation that he knows nothing about baseball & that it was in spite of him not because of him that the '23 Twins did well. That he needs to step aside from the practical baseball operation & stays only in the business side, Get someone like Andy Macphail to take over. Have someone like Tori Hunter (I got from Trev) a very good leader with a lot of baseball knowledge, to be manager, let him put together his coaching team. The change has to come at the top or nothing changes. If nothing changes at the top, it's senseless to fire Baldelli. We are doomed to be a miserable team for many years either way. Falvey & Baldelli are connected at the hip. Will Falvey sell out Baldelli? If this is his last sacrificial lamb, then yeah.
  16. Saints' game was very interesting. They were greatly out hit but got on base (Emma, 0 hits, 3BB) while getting some big hits. Fedko at 1B? Interesting. Keirsey leading off? GG in RF where he belongs, good. Good luck to the Kernals!
  17. In this age of analytics, all that many look at are stats. Yes, analytics are a useful tool, but if that's all we look at, we get into trouble. If you hit a lot of HRs in low leverage, you'll have a nice offensive & total WAR stat & admiration by many. But will that win you games? That is the most important question. IMO, there are more important attributes that need to be addressed that lead to wins, yet don't add to WAR much. Twins need to look at each of their players' strong points, develop them to the max & value them as part of a winning equation. 2 players that are underrated that I'd like to shine a light on are Martin & Clemens. Because Martin doesn't hit a bunch of HRs he is often devalued. But what is Martin good at? He's athletic, he gets on base at a high clip, he steals bases, he disrupts pitchers to make mistakes for batters behind him & he starts rallies. Clemens stats don't look that great but he often gets big hits when it really matters. They were a big reason why we won the game. For us to win games going forward, Twins have to throw out the window that old ideology of winning games for a more practical one, not trying to fit everybody into that old ideology & form a better value system. Especially since our BP is crap.
  18. I have no idea how high SWR's ceiling is at but he has established himself as a SP, that doesn't mean that every outing will be great. He'll go through times of adjusting, all pitchers do but he'll adjust to every situation & cement himself to the rotation more so than Matthew or Festa. In house- Julien's defense has always been a liability. Only Correa & Santana covering for him, could somehow make him look passable to some, But after Correa & Santana left, they could no longer deceive even Julien's staunchest supporter. After the league had the book on Julien, him adjusted his hitting, & even him learning 1B at the MLB level (because they refuse to surrender hope that he could play 2B while at AAA), he doesn't have any justified hope to make the 40 man. Once a promising young pure hitter, Miranda is broken due to mismanagement. IDK if he can ever be fixed (at least with the Twins, what a shame). Keirsey has been mismanaged & doubt he'll ever get a chance (again a shame). Out house- I like Clemens, but IDK how much he can maintain to become a contributing asset, but I'm willing to give him a chance to be at least a bench player. Right now, he's our best 1Bman. Outman, I don't care how many HRs he hits in low-leverage situations; his SOs are inexcusable. Twins need to flip him as soon as possible while he's worth something (I know, Falvey will never do that but they should)
  19. It's ridiculous to put Buxton together with Rodon, Outman & CF in the same sentence. I'm not sure if Rodon or Outman should be playing much less in CF. I don't trust defensive stats, My eye tells me that we don't have anyone close to take Buxton's place in CF. It'd be a tremendous waste to put him in cOF. If we have a future CFer that might suffice there. The best teacher is to watch Buxton in CF. Twins' philosophy that defense is not important has to change if we ever want to compete again. We have to place the best defensive players at the premium positions CF, SS, C & 2B & keep them there to maximize our chances of winning our games. Putting Buxton in cOF counterdicts that idea.
  20. What will the Twins do with these 2 very popular former players? They'll only contradict Falvey's analytics; we don't want that, do we? If you got the data, what else do you need? Seriously, coaching has been a serious problem. Tori & Eddie would be great fits, plus Washington's influence is a plus. IMO, Falvey, especially after getting more & more control, has gone away from reaching out to former players. Which I think is a big mistake.
  21. Although I don't agree with a few things that Baldelli does, he lacks the experience & too dependent on weird analytics; firing only Baldelli will not solve the problem. Falvey will hire someone worse. I don't like the stupid decisions that the Pohlads have made due to money over fans. They are totally lost about baseball. But they don't have to know how to operate a baseball team; that's what Falvey is supposed to do. Falvey has no idea or ability to do so. Any good owner should be able to evaluate Falvey's performance & make an intelligent decision to fire him. Pohlad's failure to do so while promoting him shows how lost & delusional the Pohlads are. Payroll isn't a factor for me. A good FO can work around any financial limitations. My sentiments are not personal. If an outside investor comes in & wakes up sleepy Joe & fires Falvey & Co., I'm fine with that. If Falvey accepts some pitching office (not FO), I'm fine with that. If Baldelli accepts a bench coach position, I'm fine with that. The one who deserves the most blame is Falvey because he's the one who's supposed to know what he's doing & be accountable, instead of blaming everything else.
  22. Super utility is very valuable & very few can do it well. So, I agree with you that it's better to find our best 2B man & keep him there to develop into the best 2Bman he can be at an important position.
  23. "This may speak to an organizational philosophy, downplaying the importance of second base defense, a lack of development of infield skills, poor scouting, or a combination of all three." I think you hit the nail on the head; Twins have many faulty organizational philosophies, downplaying the importance of the keystone position, is one of them. As long they hit the way they like, they'll prop you up & try to hide you there. Yet the keystone is very important. You need positional IQ, range & quick reactions to get to ball hit up the middle, sure hands & able to turn a smooth DP (pitchers best friend). This philosophy has cost us many runs through the years. IMO, many times def. stats don't justifies the damage. Do you think they'll see their error & completely change their philosophy on defense? I've been waiting a long time.
  24. I've been disappointed with the MLB-ready players received & IMO, priority was a promising MLB-ready catcher for now. Tait is a long way off with no guarantee he'd stick at catcher. With all the proven talent we gave away, IMO, what we received was well short for a deadline return.
  25. Why are they keeping those minority owners such a secret? If they are about change, it can't come soon enough.
