The bottom line is that 9 years of Falvey has yielded Ryan Jeffers as the only position player worth noting. Some may say Lewis hit some grand slams and Wallner hits home runs, but I'm reserving confidence for guys we know can be every day players and not just hopefuls in this last 9 years. Twins fans continue to hope on the prospects and players like Lewis, Wallner, Larnach, Lee, etc. The record speaks for itself as far as position players in the Falvey Era.

I don't think relocation will occur because there is enough opportunity to make money in the Twin Cities region. The lease may have once been a logistical obstacle but it is now 2025 and the law is money and power. A lease would not be supported by our new legal world if the person looking to break that lease had power and money. The old judges have retired. In reality it could happen soon but the best way for someone to make money is to manage the business properly where it currently resides. It should be interesting (well maybe not) to see what happens.

The worst news possible ... Pohlads, Falvey, Baldelli continue on. Why is this almost predictable. The team we watched last night may become the new normal.

It is frustrating to read that the Twins may complete the trading frenzy this winter. However, a quick look over the roster makes it obvious the position side needs help. The ownership situation is a huge determining factor in what happens from October to March as well. The Pohlads will want payroll reduced. Thus, the expensive and increasingly expensive Lopez, Ryan, and Ober along with Jeffers become the most likely personnel that accomplishes two goals - reducing payroll and adding position players. Abel could be a solid rotation arm as soon as next year. I would not dismiss any future possibilities of success for any of some others: Woods Richardson, Festa, Matthews, and Morris. After watching Bradley last night I'm a little hesitant to think he belongs. I'm miffed why Jax wasn't able to return a better option. Watching the Twins, we can all see they need better position players who can field and get on base or otherwise contribute towards scoring runs.

No complaints. This is the reality of the current roster and nobody should be surprised. Seems like the Twins are playing hard but there is a pretty stiff differential in talent plus experience.

Twins (Bullpen) Vs Yankees (Rodon): 8/12/25 6:05 pm CDT
tony&rodney replied to C-Gangster's topic in Archived Game Threads
I'm not sure how people can really talk about this, not that there is anything wrong with conversations. The Dodgers are over $400M and committed to well over $200M before arbitration and adding players. If 75% is the marker and the Dodgers spend $400M, how can the lowest teams pay $300M? And if you don't allow the Dodgers to fill out their roster with anyone but rookies and the payroll is $240M (which they cannot reach that low), how are you going to get the Pirates, A's, etc. to spend $180M? The Yankees could make someone a little cash by dumping tonight's game. Gasper at catcher is a hoot. He didn't get hurt or hurt anyone last time out. Good luck Twins. -
Great to have a guys like Bader as a 4th outfielder and Willi Castro as a utility player. These guy have retained their athleticism. They also played pretty well. I don't want either of these two in the starting lineup on a regular basis. How did the Twins do with their veteran utility guys starting? We can say they did their part and they did, if viewed as utility players. The Twins need to raise the bar with their starting lineup. At that point where they are competitive, then they can grab utility players.

You could be correct on Andrew Morris. Morris throws harder than either Abel or Bradley and has better control. Morris hit 98/99 a number of times this season. The command and secondary pitches still need work and he needs experience facing the best hitters. The Twins do have a pile of AA/AAA pitchers to sort through to see who goes where and when. -
There are too many shifting pieces to make a guess at the Opening Day 2026 roster. The first variable would need to be ownership. The author stated that he was going with the Pohlad family still owning the team. In that event, one could reasonably expect that 2 of Lopez, Ryan, and Ober are traded. Additionally, it is quite feasible, if not expected, that Jeffers and Lewis are moved as well. Topa and Larnach would either be traded or not offered contracts. Really, it is way too early to guess at a 2026 roster due to ownership and injury situations. A $75M roster payroll is not just possible but a consideration. When one gets into future speculations this early many outcomes can be expected. We can also even expect a better team at half the payroll. I think I will wait until November before beginning thoughts on next year.

Not even close to a strike. -
Let both Culpepper and Jenkins finish the year with Wichita. If they look ready after a winter of work, put either or both in the Twins lineup. Talent plays.

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Some Nick. Some people, not all of us. My thoughts are the franchise wanted to get out of the contract, so save $20M off the payrolls for the next 3 years from one contract. I do not expect a penny to go back towards adding players. It was a money deal. However, that deal is now done and I'm hopeful for some potential solution going forward. It has not been pretty watching our new shortstop thus far. The team needs to be sold. This could take a few years. So it goes.- 67 replies

This is where I am with Brooks Lee. He also doesn't really project as a utility player because of his lack of speed. This was why I made numerous comment last winter proposing a trade of Lee for Jeferson Quero. Of course, Quero hasn't fully returned from his shoulder injury so there is that point.- 67 replies

Where is Edouard Julien's head at?
tony&rodney replied to VivaBomboRivera!'s topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I saw that sequence in the dugout too and began to write a similar comment as yours immediately after the game. I stopped and went back to the video. Julien was in the front of the line at home plate when Keaschall was running in to celebrate with his teammates. He was all smiles. I am sure I saw Martin in the pile of people as well and then later we also see Martin sitting in the dugout collecting his thoughts. From my re-watching the video a few times I concluded that both (Julien and Martin) had been smiling participants at home plate but with the game over were just moving on to gathering their stuff before going into the clubhouse. It is really almost impossible to know the dynamics on a team and how a player is feeling based on our looks. -

Yes, Ryan Fitgerald is 31 and not a part of the future. Can he help the Twins get to that future player though by filling a gap now and/or playing in a fashion that could look like competitive baseball? He hustles and plays hard. I fully agree that Brooks Lee should be the guy playing full time and we do need to be patient. However, if Lee cannot give full effort he may need a reset. Jogging and half-hearted plate appearances are not a good look. I get he can be totally overmatched at times but the optics in how he is playing right now need to turn around or the Twins need to turn to grandpa.- 67 replies

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Perhaps I'm missing something but it seems like most people have Royce as a core member of the team now and going forward. Certainly there is abundant support from Falvey and Baldelli. My thought is that if Lewis still has legitimate value to another team the Twins need to see if he can be traded, either alone or with another player to maximize a return. We clearly cannot know how other teams look at the Twins based on the recent deadline deals. I'm not a fan of BTV but noticed he has a 30 something number again after sinking below 14 in the early summer. So which teams will need a third baseman? When we watch Lewis are we seeing 2023 Royce or the 2022 and 2024-2025 version? There is a marked difference. Lewis is a bit of an anomaly because he is supposedly healthy but he moves and runs like someone who has either an ongoing injury or limitations based on less than full health or complete recovery. That isn't a good way to play baseball. Brooks Lee is getting a run at shortstop but he would be far better as a third baseman. Of course, Lee has his own issues with the bat and running. It will be a little difficult for the Twins until someone steps forward to claim positions. Who isn't clear at this time. I guess the best mode is to keep an open mind and let the play on the field result in who plays where. To date Royce Lewis has been on a honeymoon with the Twins since his grand slams in 2023. How long does that last?- 67 replies

Sure hope reality doesn't come calling. -
Jenkins just needs to stay healthy and get as many plate appearances as possible. Not sure if the Arizona Fall League is a good thing for him. As the AA season winds down hopefully Walker can stay focused and drive all the way through the last game. He may be fresher than others due to missing time early in the year. Right now, Jenkins is hot. I can see him being at Target field next year. He looks bigger than his listed size.

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Culpepper as the plan at this time is not a solid plan. The plan at this moment is clearly Brooks Lee, a former high draft choice. The solid plan is to allow for a strong showing in both Spring Training and April. See if Culpepper is ready. Perhaps Brooks Lee takes the job in these next 7 weeks and improves over the winter as well and comes out strong in March and April. So I support your statement. There is time to let things unfold. Right now Culpepper is pushing with a very strong season, although I half expect him to slow down in the last month of his first full season in professional baseball.- 67 replies

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Nick, let Carlos go. I was extremely appreciative of Correa's consistent play in the field and never cared a lick for how much he was paid. Lee hasn't looked good. Is he pressing? Hard to know. Part of me says that the Twins should play Fitzgerald every day if Brooks can't hustle and make the plays. He missed two today. But I think it is best to be patient unless the jogging on grounders and fly balls b.s. continues. I wish Correa well with Houston and am aware the Twins will keep that savings. Still, time to let Correa go. I'm hoping that Clemens can hit well because he is showing some fire. Hopefully the entire team picks up on Keaschall's relentless hustle. That dive into second base to beat a force out may have been the play of the week. Also, did anyone else find it ironic to hear Justin Morneau discussing the difficulty of Keaschall's home run to right center? Remember when Target Field opened and Morneau was upset that it was impossible to hit the ball out in right center? Bert Blyleven would chuckle and say, "Relax boys, The concrete needs to dry." It's dry apparently. The trip to New York City should be interesting for this group. The starters better pitch 6-7 innings and the bats will need to bang out some hits because those damn Yankees aren't very friendly like the Midwest team from Kansas City.- 67 replies

Royals (Bergert) vs Twins (Urena): 8/10/25, 12:05pm
tony&rodney replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Well, it seemed like the Twins were lifeless before. A tone needs to be established. Do we still have scholarship players who can expect their name in the lineup no matter how they play the game? I'm ready for Fitzgerald at shortstop after today but I'm also willing to be patient with Lee if he can hustle. Which is it? This team with this bullpen should be interesting in New York. Will Byron be back? -

Some are and some are not. There are a ton of mistakes in the minor league games, especially as you go down the line from AAA to R leagues. One today was very odd. An Omaha player high a very high deep fly ball to deep centerfield. Keirsey Jr. drifted back comfortably and looked like he would make a routine catch but then the ball dropped next to him. It certainly may have been a high sky or sun situation, but the team was ready to jog off the field. It was ruled a triple. Martin was dejected and down after his mistake. He just went into the dugout despite the challenge. Martin plays hard though and it seems easier than watching a few other guys jog.
