  1. My comment earlier was more about hope than any type of measurement. Hope for change. A fair amount of people on Twins Daily do not agree which is perfectly normal.
  2. Bader, Castro, Paddack, and Coulombe are all playing well right now. They will be free agents in November. If the Twins think these players are needed for the future they can talk contract at that time. The real question is whether or not any team will trade actual prospects for these guys. Would the Cubs trade Kevin Alcantara for Paddack and Castro or Coulombe?
  3. Warm up by tuning in to Detroit-Tampa Bay on mlb.com. The 2 best teams in baseball.
  4. Long conversation, but San Diego has nothing in the minors worth trading for at this time.
  5. Castro resigned would be great as strictly a utility player, but totally a luxury on a team that doesn't function with luxuries. Teams win with Castro, Bader, Paddack, and few others as extra players not as starters. While I don't expect any moves at all, I'm thinking there is a small window for the Twins to benefit from moving any or all of Jeffers, Vazquez, France, Miranda, Julien, Lee, Castro, Lewis, Larnach, Bader, and Wallner from the position side and Paddack, Coulombe, Stewart, and Jax from the pitching side. I am also listening on others. Do I expect anyone to be involved in transactions? No. But I'm willing to see some change. No untouchables. As far as the post goes, it is easy to see all of Keaschall, EmRod, Raya, and Prielipp making new memories as major league baseball players this year as Twins. The 2 position players instantly raise the team speed and expectation for some excitement and the 2 pitchers have talent. Let's sweep the Cubs.
  6. Matt Wallner needs to become Nelson Cruz in order for him to hold off players like Jenkins or Rodriguez if he is to continue as an outfielder. Best he adapt quickly and follow Cruz as a DH masher who can perform consistently against all types of pitchers. The challenge for Wallner is formidable because, similar to the fall of Julien, it appears the pitchers have developed a book on Big Matt. Baseball is tough.
  7. 6 games to go before All Star Game and the break. Can the Twins go 5-1 to bring their record to .500 at 48-48? If they cannot, it would be a good time to follow the lead of the Nationals.
  8. Interesting. While I often watch a fair amount of minor league baseball in addition to the Twins, reality intervenes in the form of time and other responsibilities (which are less than ever in old age). Thus I don't pay any attention to BTV or bloggers, not that I have anything against such a practice. I prefer watching the players than clips, commentaries, and statistics, although one cannot help but be aware of various stats. My comment on the shifting values was more directed at how any team makes decisions about improving their ball team. I was a proponent of trading both Julien and Lewis at the close of the 2023 season only because I felt the Twins needed to upgrade their team and these two guys had sky high values relative to what I perceived as their future worth. I thought the same about Matt Wallner in November of 2024, but these crazy guesses were not popular and there is never any guarantee about returns. It's all wild speculation.
  9. Sorry I forgot to answer this question and I meant to be direct (first) with this. No, I believe Duran or Jax can fill the role by themsleves. Additionally, I'm high on Varland. Arms like Sands and Steart are still inexpensive and I would resign Coulombe for $3M. Those 5 can be supplemented by any number of others including Travis Adams, Justin Topa, and a few minor league additions. My thinking is that the Twins need some offense and catch
  10. About Gonzalez, I must add .... How many people writing about him have seen him plate in a minimum of a dozen games (50 plate appearances)? Watching in person is better but watching via milb.com is ok. Watching the 10 second videos of an at bat isn't much better than looking at the stats which, to be fair, is better than an opinion someone has on nothing at all. I encourage people to watch these guys a few dozen times. Gonzalez is nothing like Kirby. He has elements, not really the same, of his swings that can be viewed as distantly Arraez. Gonzalez is having a good year. The guy who has been impressing me is Jenkins. He is controlling his appearances and reading the game, improving week by week.
  11. Well, I was wrong. I thought the Twins would bring up Raya because he has been pitching well and he has good stuff, which is important versus MLB bats. Instead Raya pitched last night for St. Paul. Apparently, he isn't ready and the front office feels Sands and Adams are a better option at this time. Taj Bradley has had a difficult year thus far and has been a little bit of a weak link for the Rays. Bradley, however, has good stuff and could dominate any lineup in baseball when he is commanding his pitches. The Rays are a much better team but anything can happen in any game between 2 teams in baseball. The White Sox and Rockies are the only teams in baseball winning less than 40% of their games. There were 11 NFL and 7 NBA teams that won less than 40% of their games. Don't bet on baseball.
  12. Agree with all the maybes ... no idea if the Dodgers would even trade Sheehan for the 3 Twins much less add Rushing and Ryan. Jax can be unhittable but also looks nervous at times. He is really good. Duran is tough for batters trying to square up the ball and also gets ground balls. He is really good. Because I'm wanting an upgrade at catcher I offer Jax first with Bader and EmRod. Sheehan is ready to contribute now and would fit in the bullpen. I'm willing to wait for Ryan to finish his rehab. EmRod is a gamble for all. Bader isn't here next year and the Twins sell high now.
  13. Bader has been playing well above what was expected, which has been a treat. The Twins need some talent for the future and I wonder if there are any teams willing to trade for Bader. I'm looking at the Dodgers and wondering .... Jax or Duran plus Bader and Emmanuel Rodriguez for Dalton Rushing, River Ryan, and Emmet Sheehan.
  14. The author takes a positive view of Gonzalez, earned via consistent hits. I have been impressed by how much Gonzalez has improved as an outfielder and wondered whether he has the ability to take the next steps. Gonzalez began at the absolute bottom on the defense spectrum and currently seems about at the McCusker/Wallner/Larnach level. Teams have escaped using one wobbly outfielder who belongs as a DH, but it is not a good idea if it can be avoided. Think Nelson Cruz, who was as good in the outfield as the other names here but fit best at DH. Before Gonzalez is elevated as a prospect he will need to show that his glove work doesn't scare the crap out of pitchers. He has improved tremendously as an outfielder and may get better. Due to the improvements on defense in the last year there is hope.
  15. Forgot about that. I have been a pain in the ass complaining about the Twins foot speed and poor defense but it surprises me every time.
  16. The Twins have brought up a few guys, but they don't let them play. Maybe they aren't any good but it is hard to know if they never get 5 starts in a week at a minimum. Bench bats and guys who mostly sit should be veterans who know the deal.
  17. A little touchy by me, and meaningless when the Twins can't hit, but that 4th run is totally unearned. Line drive to Brooks Lee who has it dribble off his glove; very catchable. When people look at the box score they miss the plays, often ruled hits, that get should get marked as errors. Things are not looking good for the Twins because Tampa Bay is as good a team as there is in MLB. They could totally embarrass the Twins. However baseball is a funny game and the players are all good athletes which means the Twins do have a chance.
  18. While I'm hopelessly wishing the Twins find a way to score runs and wishing their players well, I'm totally flummoxed by those who see value to contending teams in many of the Twins. I would add Jax to the list of the 3 above. Maybe I should waste some time from 1-2 am looking to see if any team could use any of the other players.
  19. Baby steps, but I think Royce looks better today. He was pretty wobbly before today. Hard to play without legs.
  20. Festa could go another inning. I think he should. He won't with his pitch count and Topa warming up. Festa looked pretty good - 3 ER (I'm not letting Lee off because he dropped the ball hit to him). Miami has been hot and the Twins had strong starts from Ryan, Woods Richardson, and Festa. Hey, hey, Big Matt caught one.
  21. While it may be a thing that the Twins may have to add a player to acquire Rushing for Duran or Jax, it is also noteworthy that BTV has been wildly off on a ton of valuations. Really this is completely up to how the Dodgers view our relievers.
