Another Day, Another Loss, Another trade partner
tony&rodney commented on Doc Munson's blog entry in Fantasy GM
The Rangers are not trading Walcott. -
When Falvey states that he still believes the team has the talent to win this morning, how can there be any hope? Nobody is prodding him. I don't get him at all. Actually I don't need to and it isn't important. The play on the field is all I care about. I see the slowest team in baseball playing very poor defense and not running the bases along with not hitting. Pitchers get tagged with hits on routine plays regularly. The product is difficult to watch. What do others see? The Twins were outplayed by the lowly Rockies, the slumping Dodgers, and the woeful Nationals since the break. The Red Sox lost 2 of 3 to the Cubs and Phillies before winning 2 of 3 versus the Dodgers. Another game tonight ... hope Sim pitches well.

Los Angeles Dodgers Interested In Harrison Bader
tony&rodney replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
He wouldn't. Bader believes he is a full time player. The Twins signed him as a 4th/5th outfielder. That is his ceiling. Can't blame Bader for wanting a full time gig. Hope he gets the contract he is looking for but the Twins should pass. -

"Still, the Twins’ best path back to relevance may lie in keeping their core intact." The pitching is decent. On the position side the Twins have 2 NT contracts in Buxton and Correa. Other than that, what position players are members of this "core" that people keep referring to in articles and comments? I have wondered how Colorado Rockies fans identify their core? Tovar is one. Is the core the players on the 40 person roster with control? The 13 position players on the active roster? I struggle to identify the "core". To be clear there have been Twins teams where I could rattle off a "core".

Minnesota Twins 2025 Trade Deadline Primer
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At second base? Or does Royce move? Or Correa? Lee is right with Jeffers for foot speed and he could get slower. Correa and Larnach are both faster than Lee. Speed makes a difference on defense as well as offense. Cuddyer was quite a bit faster than Lee and also played second base. Lee would really need to raise his offense to be acceptable as a second baseman. In any event, despite my own thoughts, I do hope Lee becomes a perennial all star. I keep thinking hope is not a plan.- 62 replies

Minnesota Twins 2025 Trade Deadline Primer
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Guess I should have clarified that a few people, myself included, felt that Julien was ripe to trade after the 2023 season. Miranda had a significant hitting streak at one point and was ripe to trade. Of course they both cratered and then the saying was that their value was too low to trade them. Now, neither has any value. I felt Wallner and Lee were ripe to trade last winter. Why? Because their talents are limited. I'm aware that the possibilities include that none of these players ever had any market from another team. So maybe Falvey tried. Brooks Lee after a year of reworking his swing at AAA and finding discipline at the plate could be a decent third baseman. However Royce Lewis is a darling and it is very unlikely he is moved off the corner. Lee cannot be a utility player because he lacks speed or power and really only fits on the left side of the infield. Last however .... that is not how the Twins view Lee apparently. I'm left to just accept what is in front of me- 62 replies

Minnesota Twins 2025 Trade Deadline Primer
tony&rodney replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I actually agree with this, but also remember that we might be wishing hard to expect change from the past practices of waiting until February and March to sign those players left without contracts. I may be alone, but I see the FO as aimless for the most part.- 62 replies

Minnesota Twins 2025 Trade Deadline Primer

Good synopsis Nick. Wonder why you did not include Wallner, Lee, and Ober? The Twins need talent. They must think outside the box.- 62 replies

While I believe Brooks Lee could be a good third baseman, he is too slow to play second base. I had the same reaction on that relay ball. We always coached the player to catch and throw with your body in line and then Lee does a full pirouette. WTF. Done correctly the batter is out, easy. Lee seems down. Then again, I hope I'm not too hard on the young guy and remember I wanted (want) him traded to Milwaukee for Quero. That's not likely an option any longer. No use in wondering about what I don't know (the clubhouse) but I hope the Twins can hustle versus Boston like they did against the Dodgers. The last 3 games were sad. While the Twins should not be giving away their expiring contracts, they should able to spin a few decent trades to acquire talent. There are a number of teams that feel this is their year. The Twins should be playing the role of helper. Get it done Falvey ,,,, this week. We can wait until after the Red Sox series, but the expiring contracts and Jax should be in new uniforms next weekend.

Players who are more or less MLB ready can be prospects. There are exactly zero teams that will trade a young contributing player on their current 26 person roster unless that player is seen as an extra piece that is easily replaceable. Do you mean AAA/AA MLB ready players? Are you specifically opposed to prospects below a certain level? If so, what level of baseball is too far removed to consider a prospect?

Regarding the Trade Deadline, How Would You Answer This Question?
tony&rodney commented on Kirby Killebrew's blog entry in Kirby Killebrew
Go to mlbtraderumors.com and scroll down to 2025-2026 Free Agents. Who would want that is remotely possible. For example, I don't believe the Twins will be able to discuss numbers with either of Kyle Tucker or Cody Bellinger. I am not seeing any help via free agency. Last year there were calls to sign Hoskins for 1st base and Jordan Montgomery for a starting pitcher. There has not really been much available in free agency except for the guys who get the big bucks. Does anyone think the Twins will sign another FA contract similar to Correa's. People discuss or comment on budget but the Twins have spent more than anyone in their division. I think the Twins will see some other clubs spend more than them in the next few years. Media deals or lack thereof probably make a difference. While I have no idea what will be done, rolling it back and hoping to find a diamond on the sidewalk is not a plan. -
Los Angeles Dodgers Interested In Harrison Bader
tony&rodney replied to Matthew Lenz's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Does anyone feel a little queasy thinking about returns for the expiring contracts? Guess we shall see. The only reason to hold those players is out of spite for the offers. Is that a thing even? The Twins don't look like a fully functioning team these days. Does Boston wake them up? -
I see Stewart as the 6th or 7th guy in the bullpen. His salary is not an issue. For some of the reasons you mention I don't see a contending team offering anything useful for him. The Twins don't need to trade just to get players off the team. They need talent. I do think there is a team that likes Stewart as a final piece add-on in a larger deal Philadelphia seems like a team that could work with the Twins.

We have seen why Brooks Lee is a third baseman the last couple of games (really all season). His athleticism just doesn't work at second base. Poor guy even hits better when he plays on the other side of the field. Fortunately the Twins are going to score 10 runs today. -
KC has a better team than Minnesota. The outfield is really poor on offense. Jac Caglianone hasn't transitioned to MLB as hoped (think Nick Kurtz) and is currently on the IL. I cannot imagine the Royals making much noise in the playoffs if they get into the party, but they have a better chance than our Twins.
