  1. EmRod does not have splits LH/RH, he just sees ball. Really. Perhaps a difference will manifest itself at the major league level, but Emmanuel does not have a problem facing left-handed pitchers. The Twins have twisted themselves into knots playing the platoon game too often, and I am not opposed to platooning when it is called for in specific circumstances.
  2. This depends on a several factors. Do the Twins have anything in the works with Boston for an outfielder? Who is calling and offering what in return? Will San Diego send Cease for Larnach? Will Pittsburgh send Jones for Wallner? The Twins have a few options in the outfield and several of them require patience with young players. Will they have any patience? Emmanuel. Walker, and Luke Keaschall may all step up as better options in the outfield than either of Larnach or Wallner. This is difficult because right now Larnach has made some major improvements in his batting approach and Wallner is one very dangerous hitter putting up really strong OPS numbers. I think the biggest question is whether Falvey plans anything at all other than ST invites to players on milb contracts. Will he? I would put Emmanuel in the outfield now.
  3. 1. Royce Lewis could be your power hitting first baseman. He has bulked up to hit the long ball but it also affected his flexibility to play 2B or 3B. 2. This one will be very tough. Dalton Rushing hits while Jeferson Quero provides defense. Who know if they can be acquired. Perhaps Brooks Lee for Quero. 3. The Twins already have this player in Emmanuel Rodriguez. Let him play. 4. Money problems aside, there are options. Both Dylan Cease and Sandy Alcantara could be possibilities. Miami would need to be blown away. Blow them away by offering MLB players Chris Paddack and Edouard Julien along with minor league prospects of value such as Charlee Soto, Kaelen Culpepper, C. J. Culpepper, Billy Amick, and Yasser Mercedes. None of those guys need to go on a 40 person list and all have some promise. That is a haul. San Diego might just take an exchange of starting pitchers plus a mid range prospect.
  4. This might be it. I too was flummoxed by the choice of such a lowly rated player. I doubt the Cubs trade Kevin Alcantara, but that sounds more fitting. Castro should be part of a larger trade.
  5. While I have no idea the exact idea with this article, I'm guessing that the writer was attempting to find the value in trade between the Cubs and Twins. Clearly, I'm opposed to this specific exchange idea from my comments above. However, the concept of putting out guesstimates for potential trades is worth a discussion even if I (or others) may have dismissed it as not worth a second look. Perhaps individuals might find it more interesting to suggest alternative trade proposals, but I'm not seeing any benefit to putting down the writer. Another option is to skip the article or at a minimum refrain from commenting. We may be venturing into a time of no relevant offseason news. Falvey takes vacations too. Twins Daily must be searching for ideas, which is tough.
  6. Apparently nobody cares a hoot if rich people commit crimes. So ..... APPROVED
  7. Something close to context - Willi Castro (i year left) for Kali'a Rosario, except for the Cubs player is out of options.
  8. FWIW, Willi Castro was the Twins MVP in 2024. That should somehow be important if his skills are still there. Castro has over 4 WAR the last two years and elsewhere on Twins Daily there are discussions about picking up a 1 WAR player and likely for more money. We can trade Willi but the return should be reasonable.
  9. The Twins don't need prospects. That said, Castro may be a player to tilt a decision in a potential trade for real talent. I would hope Falvey is asking virtually every team about their players, particularly teams like Milwaukee, Boston, Seattle, Arizona, and a couple of other squads. While I'm not privy to the opportunities out there, it seems like adding Willi Castro to Jhoan Duran (and possibly Kyle DeBarge) might slide Jordan Lawler to Target Field. There has to be other ideas as well. The Twins definitely can deal Chris Paddack for a decent minor league arrow to bring their money into alignment. Willi Castro provides value to the Twins team. If another team sees that value then the return should be something worth discussing more than a high ceiling player (rated as a 40 prospect) out of options. Maybe the Cubs will trade Kevin Alcantara. He would be worth an exchange for Willi Castro if the Cubs are going for it.
  10. I'm fine if the Twins roll it back with their starters. Lopez, Ryan, Ober SWR, Festa, Matthews, Morris, and Raya are a decent pile of starters before panic usage of Lewis, Adams, Culpepper, or others (Dobnak). The value of our starters to other teams is an unknown. If a team wants to make an offer, the Twins should listen on everyone. Meanwhile, rolling it back with our position players put us around a .500 club. So, there is that.
  11. Woods Richardson earned a spot in the 2025 rotation. We sure hope he progresses as opposed to regresses. Perhaps the Twins are able to add a pitcher via trade (highly unlikely). I have wondered how other teams view a pitcher like Simeon considering his youth, years of control, and decent first season as an MLB starting pitcher.
  12. Minor league invites to all who are interested: Bader, Laureano, etc. Sure, $1M sounds fair.
  13. Exactly. If Falvey doesn't want to make any trades, it is time to go with some talent even if it is inexperienced. I have seen enough of 1 win players. I get that others are fine with going forth with what we have now plus adding one or two has beens. I guess I'm out on that plan. Sometimes people just see things differently.
  14. Sadly, I'm in the same boat as Riverbrain. I don't expect anything to happen but just don't want to watch any more guys who are done. Emmanuel Rodriguez is your starting LF and can slide over to CF when Buck needs a nap. Royce Lewis is best suited for first base. A few of your problems are solved.
  15. So, I'm not that all into WAR, but one needs to go back to 2021 since Bader was worth a crap. In sum, by the end of each year Bader is back on the market and another team believes he will suddenly become Mr. 2021 again. Just say no.
  16. Will Bader sign for less than $4 million? If not, he is not really an option .... unless Falvey gets the go ahead to spend more money ($140M). As it is Keirsey Jr. can play centerfield. An even better option is to allow the new left fielder, Emmanuel Rodriguez, to slide over to centerfield when Buck needs a day off. Emmanuel does not discriminate when it comes to hitting LH pitching either.
  17. Oh boy, the search for mediocrity has become rich. I appreciate the search for players from the writers but this one scares me.
  18. I agree that Festa can start in AAA providing the Twins add someone similar to Miller, Cease, or Jones. No retreads should be elevated above Festa however.
  19. Agree. If your #4 and #5 starting pitchers are throwing 150-175 innings of near 4.00 ERA, this is a very good thing. The pitching looks pretty good for 2025. The position side ...?
  20. If one watched the Twins play more than just a few games, there is absolutely no surprise about their poor base-running. Neither should anyone be surprised by the poor fielding. While I do not believe that the front office and/or Baldelli openly relish in crappy defense and a plodding team, the focus away from either of those skills is clearly a hallmark of recent Twins teams. Due to an overall positive winning percentage in recent years there are those, most notably the front office but also including a sizable portion of their fans, who can consistently insist that defense and base running are overrated towards a goal of winning games. Improvement in running the bases is going to need to come from new faces. Perhaps fewer mistakes while running the bases might help obscure slowness and alleviate any focus towards this matter.
  21. The sale of the Twins could drag on for a bit. Cohen spent a ton of money to buy the Mets but it is pretty easy to see that there was an opportunity to significantly raise the valuation of a New York City based franchise. Cohen will see the value of the Mets increase noticeably in the next five years. Minnesota is a much slower market, albeit one with some potential. We don't have any idea of where the asking price to buy the Twins has been set. The Pohlads may be high in their price and negotiations with any prospective buyers could take time. The final purchase price makes a big difference in this sale because the margins are likely to be quite a bit smaller versus a large market. The Pohlads made a decision to announce an intent to sell the Minnesota Twins franchise. Let us hope they fear a falling price (due to some currently unknown and unpredictable potentially poor economic situation or whatever) more than they seek a maximum number. A higher price will result in prolonged negotiations and a delay in the sale of the Twins. It is possible to get this done quickly if all sides are agreeable to the terms. That is a hope, no matter the buyer.
  22. In some ways Festa is a key for the success of the 2025 Twins. There doesn't appear to be any hopes that the Twins go to $150 million with the 26 person roster payroll. In fact, the scuttle is a firm number near $130 million. This necessitates a step forward in trust in a couple of younger players as well as seeing Falvey complete a couple of trades to a) reduce salary and; b) increase talent. There are options and a plan that counts on David Festa in the starting rotation is a good start. Currently, I have more belief in Woods Richardson, Festa, and Matthews than I do in a handful of the Twins position players.
  23. People who are tired of these articles shouldn't read them or make comments either. One has the choice to click elsewhere. I'm a little perplexed occasionally by the number of similar and often repetitive articles but the site is for baseball fans and every sports site ever is a revolving parade of similar articles pushed out for our entertainment. The news is immeasurable worse. If I want to read something decent I pick up a book or The Atlantic. I still enjoy these articles and thank the writers who do the work to put them on Twins Daily. Thank you writers. To the question .... neither. Both Turner and Santana offer almost no upside ... 1 WAR at most. Then again, if the goal for 2025 is to make a push for 81 wins then it might be prudent to sign one of Santana or Turner. In fact, the signing of either may be a clear sign of The Plan for 2025. Until such time as that, I will, as Nick Nelson has eluded, hope for a couple of significant trades that upgrades the talent of the current roster.
