  1. You also forgot Pressly rule 5. Also quite a few of those in the dollar general bin have been good buys. No we can't get a top 100 prospect for them either but we didn't overpay for any of those relievers. It would be nice to have a few relievers like back in the day when we had Nathan, Guerrier, Rincon, .... Well We just got Zach Duke and he is decent coming off of an injury. I don't hate this move but feel like we need one good reliever to sign.....Oh Well... Merry Christmas.
  2. They could earmark that money towards paying off the stadium. Paying the tax payers off early creates goodwill and creates more profit by eliminating an ongoing expense.
  3. He is just under 2000 hits going into age 35 season. If he can play till he is 42, he has a chance at 3000. His claim to fame is line drives ... batting average, doubles defense at C and hopefully he can add one at 1B. He becomes a real interesting case with A) another batting title 2500 + career hits C) gold glove at 1B D) career .300+ average E) 500 or 550 + career doubles. He doesnt have enough of any other stat that stands out at this point. He may finish with 800 XBH. 1200 runs scored and 1100 RBI with 4 more seasons. That is HOF for catchers but not any other position. But basically he is a HOF C turned Keith Hernandez because of concussions. So if he hits those marks i outlined i think he has a chance. It may take 9 tries....
  4. If Mauer plays 4 more seasons as a starter and averages just over 150 hits a season he will have 2600. He will also be approaching 550 doubles which are solid numbers. If he gets a gold glove at 1B that will be something different. With gold gloves at 2 different positions. So if his career average remains over .300 with these other numbers he will have a case. Is it possible for him to get another batting title the next year or two for good measure. He was top 10 in ave last year.
  5. Remember Atlanta was going to trade for Burdi knowing full well he just underwent TJ. Then changed their mind when they saw his medicals. He may not be able to cone back or for very lobg....Bard was surprising though. I thought he was close enough to protect. Its atleast with the Angels, so unless they trade him he has to stick with a playoff contending team all season.
  6. Also take into account the culture, Jaoenese value relationships alot in business.
  7. But i think your right about the extention as Sano insurance. And good article by the way.
  8. I think a 5 million first season and 7 million second with a third year option at 8 is closer to what he could get. You can add incentives for plate appearances if you want.
  9. Teams in on Darvish could be Minnesota, Texas, Seattle, Milwauki, maybe Anahiem Angels or San Diego. I dont know about east coast teams.
  10. I think the Cubs are using their interest as a ploy to lower Cibbs demands or see if Darvish would rather sign with them fir less.
  11. We can also offer a 6th year option for 25 mill with escalators to make ut higher with a 10 or even 15 million buyout.
  12. The opt out was actually devised by the Twins as an enticement to sign Jack Morris. They invented it. We can also frontload the contract. 28 million next season 35 the next 2 and 19 each of the last 2. For example.
  13. Im not criticizing Ryan 2.0. Im saying this is a Terry Ryan move. I dont see why he was fired to begin with. The moves made since he was let go are all types of moves he would make. Signing Rodney being one. The only criticism i had of Terry Ryan is he never made a move to put us over the top so to speak.
  14. Im fine with Rodney signing. I still think this is Ryan 2.0 going after a low cost closer. Not a bad move. Not great either. Waiting to see what next move is. And i know im a little impatient. Im excited to see what we can be next season. I orefer a nice rotation addition. But it sounds like the Twins will resign Colon and Belisle and wait for the youth thus punting next season. But well see. Anxiously and nervously waiting.
  15. Actually i remember the time we signed RA Dickey to a minor league contract and Seattle rule 5d him a week later. But who else have we lost?
  16. Im actually kind of glad that we lost these two guys. For once we have the talent in the minors worthy of being taken. When was the last time we lost a player in the rule 5 draft? Also no one mentions Shane Mack as one of our all time best rule 5 heists anymore. But him, Johan Santana, Scott Diamond, and Pressly are why we continue to partipate in the rule 5 draft. It only takes one player acquisition to justify nunerous selections. Out of curiousity hiw many worthless picks are worth Pressly in terms of dollars and lost opportunities?
  17. At this point in time, the front office duo is Terry Ryan 2.0. I give them till the All Star break to prove they can do the one thing Terry Ryan repeatedly didnt do which is aquire a difference maker. Whether it be Darvish, Lynn, Archer, etc. We need another starting pitcher. Its going to be difficult to beat the Angels next year for the last Wild Card. As far as closer goes, Rodney is just as good as anyone else at a lower cost. I bet the other reliever we sign is Belisle. I am fine with that. What i really hope is we sign Darvish and trade for Archer. We do both we can afford to include several of our top pitching prospects in the Archer deal and Gordon too. Cause our rotation of Darvish, Archer, Santana, Berrios and Gibson or May would be really good.
  18. This is another Terry Ryan move. I will keep waiting for the new front office to show that they can make the move that puts us over the top or a big aquisition (which is what Terry Ryan was so bad at) and they have all offseason to show they can, i am not impatient at this point. Being that this is a safe value driven move. No real upside or much downside outside of potential control issues. If we sign Darvish and trade for Archer count me as a believer in the front office. Until then i am glad they are atleast as good as Terry Ryan was at the Terry Ryan things.
  19. I know we are all about value, but i think the difference in what Kintzler got and what we gave Rodney is justifiable and we could have signed him too.
  20. Its like signing Beliesle but with more Ks. He had the same results being unscored on in 50 of 61 appearances and had 5 appearances where he gave up most his runs. Just like Beliesle.
  21. If we signed Darvish, we could afford to trade top pitching prospects for Archer. So a package of Gonsalves, Jay, Gordon, and Kohl and maybe someone else could be enticing. With a rotation of Darvish, Archer, Santana, Berrios and Gibson/ May / Mejia, plus still have Littell, Sledgers, Jorge, and Romero and Thorpe still on the farm.
  22. good insurance if we dont pick up Santana's option next season. this gives us more payroll flexibility in that regard.
  23. i agree with bith comments above. spend on either bullpen or rotation uogrades and trade for the others. 1 starter and 2 relievers minimum.
  24. Seth, Where would Severino rank? And did we move back to a top 10 farm system with these new prospects?
  25. I was hoping we could use those funds to help aquire a reliever. we probably woukd need to add a propect too. but.... I agree with John and am glad they were drafted this year. Pearson appears to be the Angels version of Enlow. getting a player who dropped for signability issues. The Catcher is the new Stewart for our org. nice glove no hit catcher.
