  1. I can see the front office waiting till next offseason ro address this unless they decide to rework last year of contract into an extention to afford Yu or another starter. If Mauer gets 170 hits, .360 OBP, 30 + doubles and has gold glove calibre defense then he should be resigned to a 1 or 2 year contract with option. He is basically Keith Hernandez now and Keith was a borderline HOF that I dont think got in. As far as money goes 8 - 10 million per season works for me. Maybe incentives that can push it to 12.
  2. I think they could still sign Belisle as good as Busenitz was last year his peripheals say he was just ok. Plus if Rodney has control problems early in the year, Belisle can step into closers roll short term. And we can always carry 8 pitchers for a minute too and injuries and stuff. Too much risk aversion to not sign him if we can get him fir around 3 million give or take.
  3. I just go with the flow on offense with him. He does need to hit for average though cause the scouting reports all say he doesnt have elite power....but 25 HR is more than enough with a .280 average.
  4. Is he slower than Kepler at this point? Maybe he should be a RF instead and Kepler in LF.
  5. Favorite memories, Dan Gladden Grand Slam Game 1 World Series 1987. And knoblauch tricking Lonnie Smith in game 7 of 1991 World Series, which prevented the Braves from scoring the winning run. In 2018,my prediction is as incomplete as the offseason. Sano doesnt get suspened, slams 35-40Hrs Buxton hits .280 - .300 with 17 triples and 70 stolen bases. Tyler Jay makes team out of spring training. Has sub 3.50 ERA. I fly to Minneapolis for a few games and Pub Crawl Lewis makes it to AA Santana pitches 200 innings with a 4.00 ERA give or take a run. 3 Twins win a gold glove. Mauer gets 2000th hit The Twins will win about...
  6. A 5 year 14 to 16 million per season should work.
  7. If I remember correctly the previous administration tried to get an extra year or two tacked on. But Dozier wouldnt sign for that because that would affect his chance at a big payday.
  8. An accomplice also helps the pertetrator get away with the crime. By sitting on the info you are an accomplice. You are helping the person get away with the crime. Its pretty straightforward. Now if Nucj found iut today...probably not much he could do...but 2 years ago ...really? Unless its not a big deal and the girl is embellishing alot....
  9. I am saying this one thing and then shutting down for a while from this site to cool off. But if Nick knew about it and did nothing, that makes him an accompliss and a coward. Like I said earlier i dont know anyone involved but i dont come here to deal with this type of stuff. I come because its a simpler happier place to be....
  10. When she told Nick, she came forward. If its a serious offense, someone needs to stand up.
  11. My opinion is only based on the story posted. I do not know any of the people involved.
  12. Im not buying this either. I can see a scenario where Sano playfully grabbed her wrist and let go when she pulled back. She may have felt pain but from what I can tell is that is too public of a place to scream for what seems like 10 minutes to go unheard....and unheaded...
  13. Cobb needs to get his ego in check before he signs. 20 million per season expectation is about to cost him a spot in Chicagos rotation. There are plenty of options and time to oull off a signing or trade if Darvish doesnt sign. I think if you connect dots the Twins include Sano in a trade for Archer, then sign Napoli to replace power lost, let Escobar handle 3B or sign one. .....
  14. I agree, in that i like the moves. I think we should get Darvish. Payroll should be able to go up. We are in a competetive window of around 4 -5 years and would like to see us advance in the playoffs for a change. I am also in on a trade likely to occur. I think i read that the Twins floated Sano around in trade talk and including him in an Archer trade and a Napoli signing to offset some of the power loss makes sense. That would give us a super rotations which is better than a super bullpen....Archer and Darvish would make around 34-36 million per year combined or a 17-18 average for each. Though i am a fan of Sano so i will sit back and see how the offseason plays out. Though if we do not land a big starter then the offseason will be a let down. Even if we do knock out the rest of our winter list of needs.
  15. Sano isn't going to be at 3B for too long. Depending on his workouts, diet, and health he could be there 1 to 3 or 4 years before heading over to 1B or even DH on a full time basis. Which is fine because he will still provide value at 1B or DH as he has monster power. The question then becomes, will he stay healthy enough then?
  16. To attract more writers create a writers section. In the section in the box in the upper right of the page. We have a twins forum, blog, articles and no writer development section. No info on how to structure a good post no call to action either. No way to contact anyone on how to get involved either or leave my contact for example if i was interested ... I would also create links on the main page for those interested in writing click here to take them to the writers development section.
  17. You also forgot Pressly rule 5. Also quite a few of those in the dollar general bin have been good buys. No we can't get a top 100 prospect for them either but we didn't overpay for any of those relievers. It would be nice to have a few relievers like back in the day when we had Nathan, Guerrier, Rincon, .... Well We just got Zach Duke and he is decent coming off of an injury. I don't hate this move but feel like we need one good reliever to sign.....Oh Well... Merry Christmas.
  18. I imagine if Sano were to move from 3B to DH then someone would be on the move. Likely Napoli either trade, benching or release. Im ok with the signing as long as he gets platooned against RH pitchers. He is on the downside of his career and his value to us is balancing the lineup vs lefties.
  19. They also traded for 2 prospects and signed another as a FA. And dont forget the Bartolo signing is just around the corner too.
  20. Is Grossman or Vargas the odd man out? Napoli can spell Mauer at 1B same as Vargas and both can DH and thats it. Grossman can atleast play a gross OF so there is some versatility there and grossman can spell Kepler while Napoli spells Mauer against tough lefties. I'm good with a Napoli signing cause he does fill a need. He shouldn't cost much. Maybe 3 million plus 2 million in incentives. And maybe 1 or 2 million more and thats it.
  21. They could earmark that money towards paying off the stadium. Paying the tax payers off early creates goodwill and creates more profit by eliminating an ongoing expense.
  22. I'm more interested in winning. If we sign Darvish. Overpaying for Archer is probably the next best way to boost the rotation in preparing for a playoff appearance. Granted there are other pitchers we could trade for that would cost less. but for the money we would either need to trade too many prospects to Tampa for Archer or get a lesser pitcher or roll the dice with our own. We wont likely have the money available to sign another decent started unless we get another injury signing like Pineda. We trade for Archer and sign Darvish our 2019 rotation is looking crazy good with Pineda too. Though i suspect we would either trade Santana or not pick up his option if this was the case. Also since our window of opportunity is the next 4 years, I am more interested in trading prospects above low A ball as the players from this years draft and drafts moving forward will be the core of a future winning cycle. In terms of an overpay i think we are not in a position to overpay for Archer unless we get another starter such as Archer. I say this because we have 5 or 6 starting pitchers who are getting close to the majors and only 1 for sure starter the next 4 years. Getting Darvish nets us another and trading for Archer as the 3rd. We still have May, Mejia, Gibson, trying to lock down the 5th spot in the rotation unless any of these are included in the Archer trade. And we have Enns, Slegers, Jorge, Gonsalves, Romero, Littell, Thorpe, Stewart, and Eades and probably more....So if we traded 3 of these guys like Gonsalves, Romero, and May in the Archer deal along with Gordon, and Granite or Wade, I would be good with this package after a Darvish signiing. not before. before getting a pitcher like Darvish i think a package of May Romero, Wade and Beeker and some low 30s ranked prospect is more than enough. While Gordon is currently at SS he probaby could be shifter to a corner OF spot and hit similar to Span if we need to include him in a deal with Tampa...
  23. He is just under 2000 hits going into age 35 season. If he can play till he is 42, he has a chance at 3000. His claim to fame is line drives ... batting average, doubles defense at C and hopefully he can add one at 1B. He becomes a real interesting case with A) another batting title 2500 + career hits C) gold glove at 1B D) career .300+ average E) 500 or 550 + career doubles. He doesnt have enough of any other stat that stands out at this point. He may finish with 800 XBH. 1200 runs scored and 1100 RBI with 4 more seasons. That is HOF for catchers but not any other position. But basically he is a HOF C turned Keith Hernandez because of concussions. So if he hits those marks i outlined i think he has a chance. It may take 9 tries....
  24. If Mauer plays 4 more seasons as a starter and averages just over 150 hits a season he will have 2600. He will also be approaching 550 doubles which are solid numbers. If he gets a gold glove at 1B that will be something different. With gold gloves at 2 different positions. So if his career average remains over .300 with these other numbers he will have a case. Is it possible for him to get another batting title the next year or two for good measure. He was top 10 in ave last year.
