  1. I wouldnt include berrios but i would be willing to include extra prosoects in the deal to make it happen.
  2. I think it would be better to bracket the players off based off of Positions. because in reality if we trade a bunch of prospects they are likely going to be 3 to 5 pitchers and IF maybe an OF or reliever....plus it will be easier to try to match up with the needs of the other organization too. Starting pitching Relievers OFs IFs
  3. I would be more comfortable trading more prospects to get a pitcher like Archer if we had a second pitcher like Darvish, Lynn, Cobb or Arrieta signed before we make the trade. Meaning Archer is more valuable to us after we sign a pitcher than before because we are more likely to have holes in the staff in the future with only 2 pitchers locked up for 4 years as opposed to 3.
  4. If they want position players we could go with Lewis, Wade, Garver, Killeroff and a pitcher or 2. Others like Jorge Polancoor Gordon, Escobar, or Kepler could be included as well. They may want a pitcher or two for depth. So Im sure from what we have we can find a package of prospects to get a deal done. The Cubs would need to trade from their major league roster as their farm is thinning iut after several trades. Also if they get Archer that would keep us as favorites in the Darvish sweepstakes so loosing on Archer is ok too. We can give up fewer prospects for Odorizzi....
  5. Spycake you are correct about why they would trade Longoria but that trade is also a signal they are sellers. They just traded away one if their biggest hitters in their history. Reloading with prospects to take another run in 2 years is probably preferable to them. So a strong package with 5 or 6 good prospects mostly pitchers may win us the trade. But to gut out half our pitching prospects we should also sign a top FA pitcher too. Again if we have 3 starters locked up for 4 seasons we should have plenty of time to develop some more prospects.
  6. With Tampa Bay trading their franchis ICON Evan Longoria to the Giants today they have pretty much decided to tear down and rebuild. Archer should be available now. He also will cost alot of prospects. For that reason we should also make a hard run at one of the free agent starting pitchers in the big 4 (Darvish, Arrieta, Lynn, or Cobb) That way we have 3 pitchers locked up the next 4 years and Santana for up to 2 more as well. We will be able to get by with fewer pitching prospects if we include 4 or so in a trade for Archer. For Example ( Mejia, Gonsalves, Romero and Poppin) to go along with Gordon and maybe Wade or Granite or we could include Gibson to offset some cash for signing Darvish. Maybe we package Hughes and some cash and some prospects to be rid of his contract. But anyway you look add it Tampa has announced they are in a full rebuild this morning with the Longoria trade and we are in a oosition to capitalize on it.
  7. Remember Atlanta was going to trade for Burdi knowing full well he just underwent TJ. Then changed their mind when they saw his medicals. He may not be able to cone back or for very lobg....Bard was surprising though. I thought he was close enough to protect. Its atleast with the Angels, so unless they trade him he has to stick with a playoff contending team all season.
  8. Also take into account the culture, Jaoenese value relationships alot in business.
  9. But i think your right about the extention as Sano insurance. And good article by the way.
  10. I think a 5 million first season and 7 million second with a third year option at 8 is closer to what he could get. You can add incentives for plate appearances if you want.
  11. Teams in on Darvish could be Minnesota, Texas, Seattle, Milwauki, maybe Anahiem Angels or San Diego. I dont know about east coast teams.
  12. I think the Cubs are using their interest as a ploy to lower Cibbs demands or see if Darvish would rather sign with them fir less.
  13. We can also offer a 6th year option for 25 mill with escalators to make ut higher with a 10 or even 15 million buyout.
  14. The opt out was actually devised by the Twins as an enticement to sign Jack Morris. They invented it. We can also frontload the contract. 28 million next season 35 the next 2 and 19 each of the last 2. For example.
  15. So an offer of say Gonsalves, Mejia, May, Gordon, Poppin and Lamont Wade wouldnt be a good offer for Archer. Thats 3 rotation arms that are cheap with lots of control and a SS who is from Florida an OF and a solid rotation prospect in lower minors. Not saying that offer gets it done but should get conversation going. I would replace Wade with Killeroff if need be. But i wouldnt make this trade without a Darvish signing. Cause i would want another top of rotation arm locked up for 4 years while we develop next round of pitchers.
  16. I dont, we have Gonsalves, Romero, Sledgers, Jorge. Thorpe, Mejia, May Kohl Stewart and Littell and more. Im saying trade a few of these and Gordon and some A ballers...5 or 6 prospects total. But only after we sign Darvish. I wouldnt want to trade that much without signing him too.
  17. Would it be worth it to aquire Kemp for a C- prospect to be a DH if Los Angeles paid all but 2 or 3 million? They are rumored to release him if they cant find a trade partner and may throw in a prospect to take some money in the deal. Per mlb traderumors. I know we could use a rh bat
  18. Im not criticizing Ryan 2.0. Im saying this is a Terry Ryan move. I dont see why he was fired to begin with. The moves made since he was let go are all types of moves he would make. Signing Rodney being one. The only criticism i had of Terry Ryan is he never made a move to put us over the top so to speak.
  19. Im fine with Rodney signing. I still think this is Ryan 2.0 going after a low cost closer. Not a bad move. Not great either. Waiting to see what next move is. And i know im a little impatient. Im excited to see what we can be next season. I orefer a nice rotation addition. But it sounds like the Twins will resign Colon and Belisle and wait for the youth thus punting next season. But well see. Anxiously and nervously waiting.
  20. If we can sign Darvish, should we trade for Archer too? With a rotation of Darvish, Archer, Santana, Berrios, and Gibson / May / Mejia with Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge, Sledgers, Kohl, Thorpe and more on the way. We could trade 3 of those pitching prospects plus Gordon and a lower level prospect or 2 to get Archer and not hurt our depth too much. Darvish would be for 5 or 6 years Archer for 4 Santana for 1 + 1 Berrios for 5 Gibson 2 May 3 or 4 At worst we need a 4th / 5th starter type after 1 or 2 seasons.
  21. Actually i remember the time we signed RA Dickey to a minor league contract and Seattle rule 5d him a week later. But who else have we lost?
  22. Im actually kind of glad that we lost these two guys. For once we have the talent in the minors worthy of being taken. When was the last time we lost a player in the rule 5 draft? Also no one mentions Shane Mack as one of our all time best rule 5 heists anymore. But him, Johan Santana, Scott Diamond, and Pressly are why we continue to partipate in the rule 5 draft. It only takes one player acquisition to justify nunerous selections. Out of curiousity hiw many worthless picks are worth Pressly in terms of dollars and lost opportunities?
  23. At this point in time, the front office duo is Terry Ryan 2.0. I give them till the All Star break to prove they can do the one thing Terry Ryan repeatedly didnt do which is aquire a difference maker. Whether it be Darvish, Lynn, Archer, etc. We need another starting pitcher. Its going to be difficult to beat the Angels next year for the last Wild Card. As far as closer goes, Rodney is just as good as anyone else at a lower cost. I bet the other reliever we sign is Belisle. I am fine with that. What i really hope is we sign Darvish and trade for Archer. We do both we can afford to include several of our top pitching prospects in the Archer deal and Gordon too. Cause our rotation of Darvish, Archer, Santana, Berrios and Gibson or May would be really good.
  24. This is another Terry Ryan move. I will keep waiting for the new front office to show that they can make the move that puts us over the top or a big aquisition (which is what Terry Ryan was so bad at) and they have all offseason to show they can, i am not impatient at this point. Being that this is a safe value driven move. No real upside or much downside outside of potential control issues. If we sign Darvish and trade for Archer count me as a believer in the front office. Until then i am glad they are atleast as good as Terry Ryan was at the Terry Ryan things.
  25. I know we are all about value, but i think the difference in what Kintzler got and what we gave Rodney is justifiable and we could have signed him too.
