  1. Using Escobar as an example. If Santana didn't need replacing... Escobar may still be rummaging around LF but Santana needed replacing so it worked out. My thinking is that Sano would replace whoever needs replacing. Park may struggle with the size of american baseballs and big hard sliders. Mauer might get hurt. Plouffe may get traded... or play much less because Sano's bat plays bigger than Plouffe's glove. These things just work themselves out. Unless he's Delmon Young.
  2. If Sano ends up being terrible in the OF. I have a feeling that the Twins will stop playing him in the OF. I'm really not worried at all.
  3. Frazier would look great on any roster. I'm a fan of his. But... looking at the current Twins context... The Guy I would pluck from the White Sox Roster is Brett Lawrie. He'd be perfect for the Twins. If Plouffe is playing 3B over Sano for defensive reasons and I assume that he is. Let's get one of the 3 elite defensive 3B's and one of the 3 is Brett Lawrie. (Arenado and Machado are the other two). Lawrie also plays a nice 2B so he can slide over and give Dozier a breather on occasion and Sano can move to 3B from the OF on occasion. This will link Dozier into our Corner position logjam and Molitor will have options across the diamond. Molitor will be able to mix and match... play the hot bats... We will have decent options for any injury. Yeah... I would have made a trade for Lawrie as soon as Oakland put him on the block. He'd fit the Twins perfectly. It's not gonna happen... So Desmond in my mind becomes a possibility for that role. Of course Molitor will have to take on some Maddon characteristics to make it work. I also doubt that Desmond will happen so Go get me a CF to hold the spot until we are sure Buxton is ready. I would only trade Plouffe if a 3B/2B or SS type can be acquired. Then Plouffe can be moved for a bullpen piece maybe? Not a prospect... a living breathing bullpen piece that improves the bullpen.
  4. I agree and i'm sure you agree with my agreement. Flexibility baby... The 2016 Twins have a chance of producing a roster of 25 guys who can all play and play well. I say go for it... A roster with no AAAA types would be fantastic.
  5. If I was the GM I'd sign him to play 3B and give him occasional starts at SS and 2B Then I'd trade Plouffe. If I didn't get Desmond... Oh Well. It would give the lineup more flexibility. Sano could get some starts at 3B when Desmond moves to 2B for example and then Dozier could get a game off every once in awhile. Arcia in the lineup etc. etc. As for the Lions share of SS Starts. I'm going with Escobar. Desmond's hands turn into bricks on occasion.
  6. They do It just doesn't take on some people. I was on stage with a hypnotist once. He suggested to me that everything I touched was freezing cold. I walked off the stage with total control of my actions. However later that night... when I touched my wife. Wow... It must have kicked in later. I hope that happens with Dozier.
  7. These are my thoughts on Dozier exactly. What are you doing in my head? The sky is the limit if he ever learns to go the other way.
  8. I think Dozier is one of the top defensive 2B in baseball. I also think he should take more games off.
  9. I hope you are right I really hope you are right This team needs a CF who can go get it.
  10. These no trade lists don't mean much to me. They are used for leverage primarily. It usually isn't because they like a team or a park or location. Sometimes it is but usually it's about leverage. That's why you see the big money teams listed on no trade lists. It's because they can milk more money out of them to take them off the list.
  11. My expectations are that he plays hard every day and he helps this team win games. Have a plan at the plate each at bat and a plan that includes trying to turn on an inside pitch every once in awhile. Whatever happens... happens and I'm simply not worried about Mauer anymore. Other than that. My expectations will be focused on Molitor. Will Joe be creative with Mauer, Park, Plouffe, Sano and Arcia? Will the guys who are hitting play more? Will the guys who are slumping watch more? If Mauer has to sit because Park is at first and Sano is at DH or whatever combination. So be it. If it happens 3 games in a row. So be it. I guess... in a nutshell. My expectation is that Joe understands that the team has quality options and he needs to out-play them. If he doesn't... it's going to get weird for him for the rest of his contract. I'm also glad he's a Twin and I don't worry about it. I worry more about Buxton right now. We need Buxton to be what he hope he will be.
  12. Terry Ryan had no choice but to aggressively sign Hughes and Nolasco. Kevin Correia was our top starting pitcher in 2013. He had absolutely no choice and in order to convince someone halfway decent to come to Minnesota. It took some years to get it done and now we have Ricky Nolasco. Nolasco was an absolute necessity at the time. I wouldn't call that aggressive. Trading Span... I think... actually I'm guessing that the Nationals were calling him and Terry needed pitching bad and was asking for Meyer. When the Braves signed Upton... The Nationals finally agreed to give up Meyer. I'm also guessing that the Nationals are surprised that Meyer isn't impressing in the bigs right now. I'm also guessing that Revere to the Phillies was also a by-product of Upton signing with the Braves. With no inside information at all... I'm guessing that Ryan had no plan to trade Revere but the Phillies called because everybody in the NL East gulped when the Braves landed BJ and... The Twins needed pitching and needed it bad. Getting 2 arms in the deal probably made Terry think to himself. "Mmmm... I wonder if Aaron Hicks can handle CF" That's what I'm guessing. All those aggressive moves were because the Twins had absolutely no starting pitching at all in 2012 and it was still bad in 2013. He had no choice
  13. 1. I hate the White Sox and I hate every player who wears a White Sox uniform. I'm very bummed because the White Sox just acquired two of my favorite players in Lawrie and Frazier. So now I have to hate those two and I love the way they both play the game. 2. On a more serious note: Don't sleep on the Sox in 2016. When I watch them play... they were horrible defensively. Picking up Frazier and Lawrie is a huge stride in fixing that. Couple that with Sale, Quintana and Rodon in the rotation and I think they just jumped out of also ran status.
  14. Dear Terry Ryan, I understand that the Twins are young and improving. They came close last year and as a lifelong Twins fan, it was enjoyable to be playing meaningful baseball games deep into September. It's only natural to assume that the club will continue to improve and if Park pans out, he could be a guy who moves the needle. However... I hope you are paying attention to the other teams in the AL Central. It just might be the best division in baseball. You can't sleep on the White Sox... They have 3 quality left handed starters and they have made some serious strides fixing what I felt was substandard defense with the additions of Frazier and Lawrie. The Indians have a great rotation of starters and there are bats that they can acquire to fix what was a substandard offense. The Tigers have moved quickly to fix what was ailing them last year and that was pitching... rotation and pen. The Royals are the Royals. I'm not the type to worry but it's seems quite possible that the Twins will be better in 2016 and it will look worse because of all those games you have to play against the other 4 in the AL Central. You are going to have to try and keep up if you can Sincerly, Riverbrian
  15. May as a starter or a reliever is an interesting discussion. I understand age and potential but I thought May did a super job out of the pen. I liked him as a starter at times but there was some inconsistency. I'm OK with May in the Pen and I still want Terry Ryan to get a couple more top end relievers and I'm OK trading some farm to get them. Just to join Mr. May in the pen... just to make the pen real strong. I have to admit that I'm puzzled at the attitude of some toward Milone. Milone was one of our top starters last year. Yes that's an indictment on the overall SP rotation strength but Milone was pretty alright. Duffey was also a godsend in the rotation... He needs to start the season in the rotation just to see if he can keep doing that thing with his curveball. Santana Hughes Gibson Duffey Milone Bullpen Perkins Jepsen May Big Name Trade Target Big Name Trade Target Best of who else we got Long relief -- Nolasco That's what I got
  16. In my opinion Mauer does a nice job defensively at 1B. For the time being... it's probably best to play him there... but... down the line? If Park pans out... If Vargas starts crushing the ball... If Arcia comes around? Mauer might need to start bringing some extra gloves to the park with him and Molly may need to get creative like Joe Maddon does.
  17. The Twins were in contention until the final weekend in 2015. It isn't time to think 2nd tier players. Think and aim high. Go get McGee or Miller or Doolittle. You need a left handed reliever. Look at the top of the pile please.
  18. The Twins clearly wanted a catcher that would be around for awhile. Otherwise an Avila would have kept them floating for a year. Murphy must have been an attempt at a longer term solution. I just hope they are right.
  19. I agree I look at the roster as it stands right now and it looks like we need to rent a decent defensive CF. Either until Buxton is ready or as Buxton insurance in case he hits .175 for two months. I thought Hicks would serve that role wonderfully. I understand that we needed a catcher and my concern is that we gave up too much for too little out of desperation for a catcher. And this stuff happens when you have a need like this. When the trade happened... It reminded me of Capps for Ramos. We needed a closer (desperately... I don't know) and we over paid for a mediocre one. I'm gonna do my best to assume that Murphy has been well scouted... Was the 1st choice target and I'm gonna assume they were right and let Murphy prove my gut right or wrong. My gut has been both over my lifetime. On Bethencourt. The Braves didn't get much. It would have been incredibly easy for the Braves to keep him on the 25 man roster. They chose not to. I'll pass.
  20. I get that Bethencourt is out of options and that is an issue for teams. But the Braves looked at that and said... He's not ready and let him go. Keeping AJ and Flowers instead. The Braves who are getting younger by the millisecond gave up the younger guy. Makes me stop and think and I haven't stopped and thought for awhile.
  21. 1. New Yankees Clubhouse Rule that states players can only have two names. 2. Cashman got drunk and called Terry Ryan and said "Hey Ryan... I gotta Ryan for ya" Terry Ryan was also drunk and replied back "I'll take him" And then one of their secretaries overheard the conversation and called it in. While they both slept it off.
  22. Certainly not the Royals because we don't make nearly enough contact. Certainly not the Jays because we got a ways to go to reach that level of power. (Thinking) Can I have a couple of different teams to try and compare?
  23. I'm not sure how I feel about Hicks for Murphy but I'm willing to give Murphy the benefit of the doubt and decide on how I feel about him later. As for the discussion on waiting for Bethencourt to become available because he is better than Murphy. I don't know who is better but I have a question in my head. Why would the Braves trade him? The Braves who are stockpiling every young player they can find. The Braves who signed both AJ and Tyler Flowers so they didn't have to play the younger Bethencourt. The Braves who have Ryan Lavarnway in AAA as the next man up. Why would the Braves trade him? If the Braves are willing to trade him... It would make me not want him.
  24. I'm Hopeful and that's as far as I'll go. I'm hoping Molitor will be able to make a decision between Arcia and Nunez and make the best decision. Hoping I don't always get what I want
  25. Random Thought I have both Sano and Kris Bryant as keepers on my Fantasy baseball team. I'm grateful that Kris Bryant is also OF eligible and... Bryant is OF eligible because Joe Maddon moved him to the OF for enough games to qualify. Maddon did the same thing with Schwarber and it didn't kill Bryant or Schwarber or the Cubs. I'm also happy that Sano might have OF eligibility because that flexibility is helpful to me as a fantasy team owner and It was also helpful to the Cubs and... It will be helpful to the Twins. Maybe just maybe we can get our best bats in the lineup... Maybe
