  1. That’s exactly the result I’m hoping to avoid. No more Logan Morrison walking past the lineup card without checking to see if his name is on it.
  2. Indians Player Departures Josh Donaldson and Julian Merryweather Michael Brantley Melky Cabrera Lonnie Chisenhall Rajai Davis Brandon Guyer Yandy Diaz Yan Gomes Josh Tomlin Andrew Miller Cody Allen
  3. The bar seems to be much lower these days and in the process of lowering. I think it's possible that they both get in. However... Until Pete Rose is in... I probably won't be concerned either way.
  4. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/salvador-perez-diagnosed-with-ucl-damage.html Stuff Happens I know that almost everyone has minimal expectation for the Royals in 2019 but... Depth is important... Teams need to raise that floor because stuff happens. Like Butch Cassidy said... It's the floor that'll kill ya.
  5. If the Phillies wanted the player... they must pay the price to acquire the player. Which they did. I'm pretty sure the Phillies ownership and front office understand that the possibility exists that the final years of the contract will be Albert Pujols-esque. They understand what he did last year and know it could happen again next year... But... they wanted the player and they paid the price with eyes wide open in order to get the player that they wanted. If the Phillies would have held their ground and believed that his past metrics/projected metrics suggest he should be paid significantly less and then said... "Nope we are sticking with our formula and not deviating from it"... They wouldn't have gotten the player. Because the Giants would have said... We also want the player so we are willing to go over projected value to get the player. And then the Phillies have to say... we would still like the player but the Giants are not cooperating with our Algorithm so we must increase the offer. Trying to navigate free agency with an Algorithm is going to be a lot of waiting for players to fall down in price in order to pull the trigger at a certain comfort level. If you want the player... you must pay the price to get that player. And then you pray that the results are worth it. Sometimes they ain't... but the bad result must be baked in because if you want the player... you must pay the price to get that player.
  6. I hope Marwin is kept in the role that Baldelli says he is going into... Everyday Utility Player. A player like this can be utilized many ways to help the manager with matchups, hot and cold streaks... you name it. Yes he is insurance at many positions and I have been asking for insurance at all positions since... I don't know... forever. However... my hope is that IF Schoop or anyone gets hurt... instead of just jamming Marwin into a permanent position... My dream is that Marwin can remain in the everyday utility player role and we are able to call up someone from Rochester to take over the playing time. That's when we call up Gordon or Arraez or Wade or Lewis or Rooker or Kiriloff. Call them up and give them a legitimate chance to stay up. I guess I feel that sliding Marwin into a permanent position out of necessity lessens his value a little. I hope he can remain a swiss army knife throughout his two years here.
  7. When players talk and the words they speak are twisted and thrown back in their face. Eventually they stop talking... like most of them already have. Not just players but Doctors speaking to patients. Office workers in casual conversation with others. Along with Married Couples trying to stay married or not trying anymore. Give Byron sometime to learn this and we won’t hear anything other than PR approved cliches out of him. This is how we get further and further from each other.
  8. Agreed. I'd think this puts them more in the picture. If you make this type of investment you might as well finish the job. And I'd also imagine that The entire NL East minus the Marlins just upped their interest in Kuechel and Kimbrel. GM's can be reactionary from time to time. Not ours but other GM's Of course.
  9. I have no issues with Magill other than his severe under use once he was placed firmly into the long reliever box last year. Which of course wasn’t his fault. The guy hung some zeroes and he deserves the chance to keep trying to hang them until he can’t hang them.
  10. Or it’s a fixation on a single sentence from what is probably an incredibly complex series of thoughts, feelings and emotions that is impossible to condense into a single sentence. Now he gets to perform and that will matter more than any words. The ball is in his court. Go get em Byron. Become the player you were meant to be!!!
  11. I remember playing him every day with a foot out the door. (shakes head).
  12. I wanted the extra year of service time back. I got what I wanted. I'm not going to keep hammering him. Certainly not for comments that lack the full context. It's is still my understanding that baseball players are flesh and blood human beings like the rest of us.
  13. As John Lennon said... "Whatever gets you through the night... It's alright... It's alright".
  14. At least umpteen times.
  15. That might be so. I certainly have a Rod Serling quality. I agree as trade chips, Lewis and Kirlloff would probably have amazing return from rebuilding teams. We just might be able to get a superstar to help us win the world series if we cashed those chips in but they still got to establish themselves as major league value. We all hope they do and maybe even assume they will but we said the same stuff about Buxton and Sano. So... we must wait and wait I shall. As for Berrios, Polanco and Rosario... I love them. Glad they play for the Twins but they got to sign that contract for value over 70 million before they surpass Hicks. As for the trade deadline moves... last year. I'm a fan... if you are not in contention, you must make these type of moves and the front office did that. I'm pleased. But, Prospects are prospects... We don't have any superstars at the moment and haven't had a single one since Mauer... we should have some by now.... we should have had some and lost them by now.
  16. I believe you are correct. This says a couple of things to me. 1. Anyone can claim hindsight being 20/20 and all that... but there were a few of us, who were absolutely against the trade at the very moment it happened and we haven't changed our mind obviously. But HIndsight being what it is... We traded a 5 tool 1st round pick, who ended up being the most valuable player we have ever produced by a significant margin. For a player who was the 12th ranked prospect (At his peak in 2013) and much lower ranked by the time we got him. And we traded him at the very moment he started to show a little something by contributing to a playoff chase in 2015. Prior to that... we absorbed entry level play. That is the very definition of the fuzzy end of the lollipop. 2. More importantly... Aaron Hicks is our most valuable acquisition since Joe Mauer!!! We all need to think about that for a bit and then compare the top value to other teams around the league and the answer to the question "Why is the rebuild taking so long" becomes a little clearer. This isn't as much about winning and losing... it's about the management of assets. The Orioles produced Machado, Yeah, they could have gotten more for him in trade with better timing but they produced a player with enormous value at least. The White Sox produced Sale and Quintana and they were able to turn those assets into a brand new upgraded farm system. Go team by team... right down the list and see where the Twins Rank. Nearly every team has produced players with actual street value. We have consistently produced very little and it leaves us valueless. We can't tear it down and sell off value to rebuild because we produced no value. We can't win ball games because we have nothing to produce victories. Our free agents leave and find themselves signing 1 year prove it deals or minor league deals. Our once #1 ranked farm system has yet to produce 6 figure value at the major league level. And the ONE GUY who turned out to be worth something... We can watch Gabrial Moya fight for a roster spot in his place. Where are our Superstars? Everybody else gets one or two or three... Where are ours? Aaron Hicks should be a neon sign for all of us... When you want to know what's wrong... Look at the blinking Aaron Hicks neon sign and keep digging deeper from Aaron Hicks right down to Jason Adam. Asset Management... I'm hoping that Falvey and Lavine are much better at this.
  17. Hicks spent 2016 has the primary defensive replacement for Carlos Beltran. Aaron had 361 AB's in 123 games. He was the 4th Outfielder... A role he could have played with us. The Hicks trade is just a microcosm of why we are still waiting for something to happen. Here is a question: Considering all Twins and Ex-Twins... who has signed the largest contract (Total Value) since Joe Mauer signed his 184 million deal?
  18. This is TWINS DAILY. However... you may want to head back over to the Minnesota Twins Talk Forum. You seem to have stumbled into the Other Baseball Forum where we all discuss other teams and players and then made a comment about discussing other teams and players.
  19. If it was right thing to do at the time. Doing the right thing was the wrong thing to do.
  20. Two spring training starts for Tyler Austin. Both at 1B. I've been holding out hope for some OF work.
  21. Well Good... I'm glad the floor is rising... because I'm tired of finding the floor every year. I'd love for it to be a shorter fall. Anyway, Projections are just projections and methodology is methodology. I'm pretty sure they didn't project the Rays, A's and Brewers to do what they did and I'm pretty sure they didn't project the Nationals to do what they did. The Rays got actual performance out of those guys fangraphs thought would get 50 AB's and with the methodology... a 50 AB guy isn't going to make a dent. This is a systemic flaw and it will under value the raising of the floor. Competent front offices would get better options... Like Marwin
  22. Maybe I’m not following. Who Knows. You seem to downplay adding another 2 WAR player to a bunch of 2 WAR players. You mentioned that adding Marwin upticked our win projection 1 win. Brock stated that he doesn’t think they probably are not truly representing the replacement level player. You replied that the replacement player doesn’t play enough and the players who play are the ones that do the damage. I agree with you and I’m saying that’s the problem. If removing a Ryan LaMarre type from the roster doesn’t increase our win projection. They are doing it wrong in my opinion. Having 12 2 WAR guys increases the odds that one of them become a 5 but more importantly it provides the option of not playing 0 WAR Logan Morrison because of Taylor Motter wasting space. If you can’t or won’t sign a 5 WAR guy. Your best option is to flood it with 2’s. I agree with Brock. I’m not sure this properly calculated.
