Tampa didn't have to trade Archer. He could have been dealt in the off-season. As a matter of fact. Tampa was actually in contention when they made the deal. Pittsburgh had to pay a high price or it wasn't going to happen. How do you avoid this from happening? You can't if you really really want the player but understanding leverage and what side of that leverage you are on, helps.

Interesting with Stashek. My guess was they would be reluctant to promote to the 40 man to keep room for trade additions. But the need is critical now. As for the market prices... no idea just guesses on my behalf but I always assume there is a reason it gets busy on the final couple of days. I always imagine that this is the time the Twins call the Jays about Stroman. The Jays say Royce Lewis. So the Twins call the Tigers about Boyd and the Tigers say Royce Lewis while the Jays field a call from the Astros and they say Tucker and then the Astro’s call the Tigers and they say Tucker. Neither team wants to pay that price so they all take phone calls make phone calls and wait for the prices to get reasonable and that probably happens once the clock gets close to killing the game. So I think we will have to wait unless we are willing to meet an exorbitant ask. But... I have no idea... I’ve never been in the room.

I think it’s more of a “C’mon May we need you” message to May. The message that he sends to the front office is “I don’t want to use Stewart” and he was all I had left. The dangerous part of this... who do they send down for another arm and will that arm be trusted and who would that be? If Arraez gets sent down because he is the guy with options to provide an emergency arm that Baldelli also don’t trust. You’ve weakened the offense and gained very little. A trade for pitching couldn’t happen soon enough but if you pull the trigger now. There will probably be an overpay involved because everyone is working every room at the moment waiting for a team to get desperate. We are going to have to ride it out.

This is what I've been talking about for quite some time. A manager needs trust in his entire bullpen. Lack of trust for Stewart probably forced him to ride May for 49 pitches. When a manager starts doing that... you got a problem.

Whenever I find myself wanting to be mad at Trevor May or any player for that matter. I first consider what I'd think if I was a fan of the opposite team at that moment. I imagine I wouldn't be thinking "HA HA May... what a whatever". When Arraez and Adrianza and Kepler came through in the 9th... I'm thinking way to go, coming through in clutch, like that. If I was an A's Fan... Hendriks you *#&)@. Both teams are competing... it produces a roller coaster when it's done right and that's why I love baseball.

If it’s close to the ground he may have made the assumption that it was going to hit the ground.m and it just didn’t. But again... it wasn’t perfect base running regardless. And I’ve seen quite a bit not perfect base running. Teaching moments all over the place.

I’m trying to recall from memory but wasn’t the ball caught close to the ground. If that’s the case, it excusable. Not perfect base running but excusable. But I admit that I don’t know if the contact play was on. Arraez in the “not hit” by a batter pick off. That’s a teaching moment for the 22 year old. Let the umpire make the call and stop for breakfast as he walks to 3B. If he is advancing on a what he thought was a passed ball... then he got picked plain and simple.

Fully agree that we need additional high leverage options. But I personally don’t worry if Rogers throws 5 innings. It’s only an issue because we need more high leverage guys. Which is close to what you are saying... other than the 5 inning part.

In the year 2017 Between August 26 and September 10th. The Los Angeles Dodgers produced one win while losing 16 games. Do some of our Twinsdaily members forget they have been on a roller coaster every single year with every single team... every single time? Or do some just like to remain unprepared for it and scream at the top of their lungs on every drop of the rollercoaster ride?

I continue to have no complaints about Baldelli at all. I question why Morin is still hanging around (Mejia DFA'd instead). He is clearly at the end of the bullpen based on usage. But, that is just a question and not a complaint.

I agree... there is nothing new about Gardy. Traditional Closer Usage: Pitches the 9th in save situations. Usually doesn't enter the game unless the team has a 3 run or less lead in the 9th or a tied game on occasion. Usually (almost always) doesn't pitch in any other inning unless the game goes to extras. Typical Closer Compensation: Almost always, quite a bit more than anyone else in the bullpen. The 2019 Twins: The Twins have decided to not assign anyone the role of closer. I couldn't be happier with that decision. This frees Baldelli to use Rogers whenever he is needed and not have to wait for circumstances to meet traditional closer usage as described above.

Yep There are two teams trying to win. Two teams making mistakes. Both teams must be factored in the evaluation afterwards... yet rarely are because the fan base tends to focus on their team as if the other team had nothing to do with it.

As respectfully as I can put this: You need to understand all the future consequences of what you are suggesting. Ash and Brock are trying to point you in the right direction. The Twins don't have to add Rooker to the 40 man roster until December of 2020. Once he is added to the 40 man roster, he can't be removed from the 40 man roster without being exposed to other teams. This is significant information and you need to understand why it's significant. Once a player is selected in the rule 4 draft (The Draft). If he is signed before he is 19 the club has 5 years before he has to be added to the 40 man roster or he will be eligible for the rule 5 draft. If he is signed after he is 19 (Rooker) the club has 4 years before he has to be added to the 40 man roster or he will be eligible for the rule 5 draft. Based on this rule in the CBA... Rooker has to be added to the 40 man roster in December of 2020 or we risk losing him to another team. Once Rooker is added to the 40 man roster... He can't be removed from the 40 man roster without being exposed to other teams. If the Twins add Rooker to the 40 man roster (early) at this time as you suggest. Adding him early guarantees (unless he is traded) that he will occupy one of the precious 40 man spots in December of 2019. This is significant because we have a fairly long list of players that need to be added to the 40 man roster or we risk losing them to another team next Rule 5. Rooker on the 40 man early will give us one less spot to protect a player therefore increasing the odds we lose a player to the Giants/Orioles or any team who would love to scoop up any of the top 5 or 6 or maybe 7 on the list below if left unprotected. Rule 5 Eligible Dec. 2019 Brusdar Graterol Wander Javier Jhoan Duran Gilberto Celistino Jorge Alcala Griffin Jax Luke Raley Travis Blankenhorn Luis Rijo Jovani Moran In a nutshell... Adding Rooker to the 40 man for simple insurance as you suggest will probably cost us a fairly significant player in the off season due to lack of 40 man space. It would be like trading Rooker for Jorge Alcala or Trading Rooker for a future free agent because they want to keep Alcala. Adding Rooker before the Rule 5 draft (or at the very least the upcoming trade deadline) would require roster management negligence from Thad Lavine so it isn't going to happen unless Rooker demonstrates value beyond whatever is currently on the 40 man roster. We are talking a Tatis, Vlad Jr, Acuna or Soto type of demonstration and even that isn't going to help get him here now because that type of talent they would probably want to wait until next Mid-April for the extra year of control if he is that talented. And once you grasp that... you have to look at the current 40 man roster and come to the conclusion that we have a lot of talent performing at a high level on the current 40 man roster and therefore Rooker can't move the needle enough in 2019. On top of all that: The Twins need Roster Spots for the Trade Deadline additions and you can bet that the Twins will be using the names on the list above as their preferred trade bait because of the limited 40 man roster space in December and the decisions that they will have to make as a result. Adding Rooker just blocks up a spot and we don't have enough spots. For example... giving Rooker takes a 40 man spot right now. The Twins trade Alcala for Bumgarner. Bumgarner now needs a 40 man spot and you gave it to Rooker. So to accomodate Bumgarner... the Twins will have to release a player. Now adding Rooker has cost us a current player on the 40 man roster sometime this month AND a potential Dec. 2019 rule 5 eligible player in December. Ash and Brock are trying to help you. I'd listen to them because it will be a waste of your time and energy wishing or hoping that Rooker appears in a Twins uniform anytime soon.

If given the choice between: A. Placing talented players on the DL and having talented players to step in. B. Having Dozier and Morrison play terribly and play everyday through injuries. I choose A.

It’s like your asking for a guy to peel an orange for you. He grabs the orange, peels it and hands you the orange ready to eat. Yet you are not happy with the final result because he used his left hand or something. I gave up looking for magical managers a long time ago and if you look around the league, those inexperienced managers are beating the experienced now out of work experienced managers.

I admit I’ve missed a few innings but I’ve seen the significant majority of all innings. Arraez is perhaps the only player who played out of position and I haven’t seen Arraez cost us an inch of ground when playing LF. Our recent defensive struggles have been accumulating by players playing their natural position and I assume are a natural part of typical ebb and flow.
