No idea but they certainly know each other. That probably won't matter much to Boston. I imagine... the trade fit would the biggest hurdle. Boston would probably love to trade Duran for a starter because they have outfield depth and the Twins shouldn't move Ryan for an outfielder. Unless a third team could be pulled in. Philadelphia for example. They don't want to give up pitching but are trying to retool and they really need outfielders. Ryan and Jeffers to the Red Sox Duran to the Phillies Aiden Miller, Casas and Wong to the Twins I'd consider that deal... Don't know if the teams involved would consider it.

It could. One less starter to pursue but it could also make the Ryan a more perfect fit for them. Ryan's arb number is affordable and shouldn't disrupt other free agent pursuits. When Joe's arb number doubles next year... Gray will be coming off the books. Although... I'm sure that the Cards are going to pay down that contract significantly. They'd have to... because you wouldn't get someone like Clarke back if you didn't. I'd say the Red Sox are still in on Ryan (and others)... if the Twins are listening to offers for Ryan.

The Scariest Spot on the Twins’ Depth Chart
Riverbrian replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From a depth standpoint. 1B is indeed scarier because the Twins don't have a Culpepper at least to man 1B down the road. However, 1B can be addressed through transition while SS can't. Players transition away from SS and they tend to transition toward 1B. If the season started tomorrow. Thank God it doesn't. If the season started tomorrow. Clemens, Julien and Fitzgerald (or Kriedler) are on the 26 man roster. So... as badly as I want a young 1B. IMO... SS is probably the bigger priority because it takes Fitzgerald (Or Kriedler) off the 26 man. Maybe even off the 40 man. I really really want both positions addressed but I may have to choose, If I have to choose. It's SS. Culpepper can still arrive on schedule... if he performs decently in AAA. When Culpepper arrives. We will be able to see what Clemens and Julien have been doing... What Lee, Lewis and Keaschall have been doing and if Culpepper hits the ground running. He will make his own room based upon the performance of his competition. The main problem is: To get the type of player I want... a highly ranked young prospect whoever that might be. It'll cost us Joe Ryan.- 36 replies

I agree with you. And I think a lot... if not all teams... do the same thing. It's going well in the bullpen so let's not mess with it. That's something all front offices need to get over. The context of all baseball teams are living breathing fluid things and teams need to be prepared to fill their squads based on wherever the context leads them.

There are around 125 free agent relief pitchers to consider. For perspective... There are around 6 free agent shortstops. The 3 pitchers in this article... were non-tendered by other clubs and therefore join the group comprised of 125 pitchers. Because there are 125 of them... I assume that you don't have to be non-tendered to be lower cost.

I'm not a fan of the Rule 5 pickups because managers spend the entire season trying to hide them and if the manager has to expend energy trying to keep them out of view... just don't do it. However... Like MLR said... "If there ever was a year". There are usually a few young 100 MPH arms that lack control available. Watch some video... find that hard thrower that you think you can straighten out and give him a bullpen spot until you think it's hopeless. This is the year to try it. I also agree with LyleCole. Quick Exposure... Don't try to hide them. You let them feel what it's like to face major league competition. Collect your real time data. If he isn't showing progress... send him back but get some decently sampled actual impressions before you do. I don't have any names... the front office does. I'll bet there is a pretty talented dice roll out there. We need a bullpen and we pick early... if ever there was a year.

He might be better. Maybe not. I don't know. Nobody knows. We know that young players can present as .800 OPS guys like Keaschall and Julien and Wallner did in their rookie seasons and we know that young players can present as .600 OPS guys like Brooks Lee. While we are about to find out what Jenkins, GG, Erod and others are going to do in 2026. I'd just like us to take a deep breath and not just toss above average hitting talent away on a team that lacks proven major league hitters. Trevor Larnach isn't Ty France or Manual Margot. Some one year invader. Trevor has been with the Twins organization for 8 years. Worked his way up from Cedar Rapids to a 2nd year of Arbitration. He did his time... he's earned a nice raise.

I get that some want to see Jenkins, GG and Erod like right now. I'm with you... I can't wait to see those guys as well and they will be here sooner than you think. In the meantime... Trevor is one of us. Been a Twin his entire career. I'm nothing but happy for him. He could still be traded... he could remain a Twin... either way... I'm happy for Trevor. The way he is being painted by some isn't even reasonable.

I get it... wasn't directed at you. I just used your post. One question that immediately comes to mind. If they are trading Larnach for a prospect... If he isn't on the 40 man... Keirsay wouldn't have needed to be cleared to make room for Jackson.

I agree that major league managers tend to designate utilization in that fashion but I continue to insist that if they don't... playing time is plentiful for all if they just allow for honest competition and through competition the utilization will define itself with the performers picking up more work and players not performing getting less work or sent to the minors. You just have to allow all the opportunity to show if they should be considered for 2027. I believe that as this project moves forward... we will get where we need to get quicker by not assuming that Larnach is better than Roden and Roden is better than Larnach. And that is where Jenkins, Erod and GG eventually come in. First injury or sign that Outman is failing in his audition. The club can choose who gets the first crack at it. If Jenkins is the choice, he comes in and looks like Keaschall did last year. He stays. He won't see AAA ever again. And he can play every single day along with Buxton and you have a solid piece in place for 2027. He is ready for the majors. If he comes in and look like Brooks Lee. He can play 5 out of 6 games. One difference that you and I are going to have. I believe we are closer than most think. We need to locate as many major league bats as possible as quickly as possible. Buxton is one, Larnach is two, Wallner is three... I'm hoping Keaschall is 4. Let's find out who 5, 6, 7, and 8 are. I'm sending them all through the filter. I will not use the term bench for any of them. If they need the bench designation... just scratch them off the list and try someone else.

Exactly He's just not where you start. Money... Last year I might have cared when we were scraping for Ty France sized pennies in the cushions. This year... his 4 or 5 million doesn't matter. Payroll isn't going back up to 140 million... at least not this year and Pete Alonso isn't coming.

Let the entire outfield show it. Then make your moves. I don't propose Larnach play all 162 games. I don't even propose that Larnach plays 130 games. Outman and others will get opportunity to show it so let them show it. If they do... I'll drive Trevor to the airport myself. This works itself out over time and it doesn't have to be a long time either. Just allow for fair competition and in the meantime. Larnach is one of our few proven major league hitters and his contract isn't expiring. But again... I get it. The 40 man roster has to be proportioned better. At least one OF will have to go beyond McCusker and Keirsay. Larnach is going to be a prime candidate if not thee candidate.

Not directly but indirectly a bat is a bat. If our SS and C isn't hitting. Having someone who can hit at other positions is rather important. But OK... If 3 outfielders besides Buxton and Wallner perform in 2026 above Larnach in 2025. We will be in real nice shape in the OF and DH. I get it... looking at the number of OF on the current 40 man. One will probably have to go along with McCusker and Keirsay for better balance. Larnach is a strong candidate for departure but as I make my constant cries for youth and development at the major league level and as much as I complain about cheap one year contracts. I would still never type the line. First I have to look up the word "surfeit". After I look up the definition. I'll just say... Larnach is one of the few proven major league level bats on this roster. If he is replaceable today he will also be replaceable in May, In June, In July. We can let others take his job by earning if they are able and if they are able... We are Golden because Larnach is an above average bar to clear.

I'm one of the loudest voices in support of youth on this website. However... If our youth performs so well that we won't miss Larnach. Buy your season tickets now so you get good seats for the playoffs and reserve your October hotel. If the entire team out hits Larnach. We are playoff bound.
