  1. Yeah, I sure hope he gets hot in the playoffs.
  2. I appreciate the positive take, Seth. But I have to agree with AM's point of view. I could never have said it better. Especially this part:
  3. I'm pretty sickened by the organization right now. Out of touch from the owner on down.
  4. It wouldn't be "panicking". They are easily deserving of walking papers.
  5. Sorry. To be fair, he did say he's fully accountable and takes all the blame. But at times he was pretty contradictory. Early on he was talking about how the offense was a bigger problem than the pitching. Why does it matter? The offense and pitching were God awful.
  6. Even if he Pelfrey does have a decent season next year, it won't make up for having to watch his slow pace and disgusting hand licking.
  7. The guy is mediocre, period. Before TJ, he was mediocre. Now that he's recovered, he's mediocre. Why spend more than 6+ mil on a guy that has NO upside?
  8. TR (paraphrasing again): "Pelfrey has said publicly that he wants to be back, and I don't see why we wouldn't bring him back." Definitely sounds like he will be.
  9. Phil Mackey asked about Terry Ryan's status as GM. "I'm pretty locked in here." Also asked about TR about Gardy, and TR defended him, talked about how well they get along. Not sure if that means anything. Said they'll announce his status soon after the season.
  10. Listening to interview on 1500ESPN now. To paraphrase this is what he just said: "I've seen your ERA stat, but I think the pitching has been better than the stats have indicated."
  11. Yeah, I don't think you could build one good rotation out of those candidates. Better than what the Twins have, but that's not saying much.
  12. I wouldn't say he deserves another chance, but I'd give him one. At least give him the opportunity to make the squad out of spring training. I don't expect much, but he's young and been successfully in AAA. He'd be on a short leash, though.
  13. They've improved because they became relievers. I will be enraged if Duensing is in the starting rotation discussion next year.
  14. I'm agree with those saying it's too early to worry about this "problem". Dozier's bat may not hold up next year, Rosario could falter, and I don't think the Twins are exactly stacked with corner outfielders. I could definitely see Rosario shifting to the outfield, for a little while at least. But since we're talking about it, I'd rather trade Dozier if the time comes. If Rosario is banging on the door next year, I'll take his higher upside and four extra years of youth. I do not think Dozier is a SS.
  15. Today, September 1st, Justin Morneau made his National League debut with the Pirates. He went 1-3 with a walk in a 7-2 Pirates loss to the Cardinals. The Pirates are now tied for 1st in the NL Central with the Cardinals. Here's how Justin looked in his new uni:
  16. The Twins suck and the season is winding down. No worry, Justin Morneau and the Pirates are in a Pennant Race. Everyone loves Morneau and everyone wants to root for the formerly lovable-losers. Me, or anyone who does it first, will use this thread to provide updates on how they are doing leading up to and throughout the playoffs.
  17. Several people are mentioning Dozier moving to SS to make way for Rosario. I hope that doesn't happen. We've seen what kind of SS he is--not a good one. There are other options if Rosario pans out. Rosario could move back to the outfield or Dozier could be traded. Or, he regresses and ends up a utility infielder. We'll see. It's not yet a problem, and it won't be a bad problem to have. Joe is not going to fatten up and become David Ortiz. He's a big, strong guy already. Look at his swing, he's not a home run hitter. Appreciate what he his. Still an elite hitter.
  18. I don't know that we can assume that. I think saving money was a concern as well. I'm not going to totally rip the organization, because we'll never know what was discussed. But I don't think the Twins always deserve the benefit of the doubt.
  19. I don't think it's crazy to think they would have gotten something better. That much money is significant to the Pirates. I'd rather have gotten one young guy with upside.
  20. I hope they don't give him up on a salary dump. He can definitely regain value next year. Then again, the A's know what kind of player he is and are smart enough to know he's struggled due to injury. I think he could bounce back nicely, any time now.
  21. I think a position change would be wise. But does it have to be 1B? Moving to 3B would be a long-shot at this point in his career, but how about corner outfield? He's an awesome athlete that could probably play plus defense in the outfield. Then the Twins could sign a big bopper, (Abreu!), to play 1B. Still, I'd be just fine if he's the first baseman of the future. His bat plays anywhere, and why are we even talking about his contract anymore?
  22. I predict you will be proven wrong. If one of them doesn't step up and take the job, a platoon of those two would absolutely be better. It might be a moot point, because I won't be surprised if the Twins do resign Morneau.
  23. Here's a list of players on the Twins that play awful defense and should be 1B/DH only: Willingham, Arcia, Doumit, Parmalee, Colabello, Plouffe Then you have Mauer who will probably play less at catcher as he gets older. The Twins do not need Morneau. He is not a good player anymore. It pains me to say that because I love the guy. But it's true.

    Liriano

Yes, Liriano has a 2.53 ERA because he doesn't have to face the DH.
