  1. I don't think that lineup is going to strike fear into any team's hearts. Starting pitching will still be bad. 2015 will be the earliest the Twins can compete unless something miraculous happens.
  2. It was so depressing. That and the Capps trade really made it hard to support the front office.
  3. I just think that's jumping too far ahead. It seems more likely that he develops into a decent SP, than him developing into a dominant reliever, and then being traded for a decent starter.
  4. I wouldn't even consider moving him to the pen in the near future. The Twins need starting pitching so bad, it would be a huge disappointment if May fails. I would start him in AAA, and give him two years to prove himself. Just wanted to mention, his BABIP is .342 on the year, a good bit higher than previous years. Might be why he's given up so many hits.
  5. Is there a time limit after someone clears waivers for them to be traded? Or can the Twins wait as long as they want?
  6. Colabello and Parmalee. No, it's not a given, but it won't be hard for them to replace Morneau's production at 1B.
  7. I'm pretty confident that they both could be better than Morneau at this stage of his career. They need major league plate appearances so we can find out. Morneau should be traded for anything we can get it return. If only to evaluate the younger guys. Terry Ryan got a decent prospect for freaking Butera. I'm sure he can get someone of value for Morneau.
  8. He's likely to receive the biggest contract ever given to a Cuban player, so don't count on it. Sure would like to be proven wrong. His numbers in Cuba are insane.
  9. I think it's a combination of cost cutting and a baseball move. Saving 1.5 million is okay for a team going nowhere. Getting a 39 year old off the roster makes sense for a rebuilding team.
  10. Good move, I'm happy for Carroll. The guy is probably going to start a lot of 2nd base. The Royals have been starting someone even older, Miguel Tejada, along with some other misfits. Carroll will be an upgrade.
  11. Good points by the last two posters. There is still time left to spend the money. I sure hope they do.
  12. I'm kind of shocked that so many people want to resign him. 1B is the absolute easiest position to fill. Why fill it with an overpriced veteran on the down-slope of his career? A platoon of Parmalee and Collabello/Plouffe will provide more production. I would almost bet my life on that. Plus, Parmalee still has the chance to be an everyday player. I would love to see him get consistent playing time in the majors.
  13. I can't even begin to understand it. They passed on a great chance to add talent.
  14. I love Morneau, but I really think it's time to move on. It's great that he's tearing the cover off the ball now. That isn't likely to last. The Twins can find production from first base pretty easily. Maybe Colabello, maybe Parmalee. I hope the Twins to the smart thing and let Morneau go.
  15. Can the Twins move Arcia to first base after this season? He is absolutely brutal in the field.
  16. I would hope the Twins would assist with that, if that's the case.
  17. I realize that sounded like I was contradicting myself. I agree that sucking has its benefits. Just how sucky you end up is not going to make a huge difference. The Twins are going to have high draft picks the next couple years.
  18. The Twins aren't going to finish with a worse record than the Astros unless they literally try to lose. As for embracing the suck in general, I don't think finishing last or in the bottom 5 makes much of a difference. The draft is such a crap shoot. The Twins will have the chance to draft huge talent for the next couple years, no matter how bad the record. I agree with you on Luhnow. When he took control of the Astros, they had a horrible major league team and nothing to look forward to in the farm system. In a short period of time, he has turned the Astros outlook around. With an owner that understands his vision, the Astros have a bright future.
  19. Sounds like an amazing AAA game. Thanks for the reporting, Seth.
  20. Answered my own question, he'll throw his first bullpen session late this week. Minnesota Twins' Alex Meyer scheduled to throw this week - TwinCities.com
  21. Gotta be happy with Trevor May this season. His FIP is 3.86. He'll probably always have a bit of wildness, though. What is the latest on Alex Meyer?
  22. It's amazing that fans still don't understand how waiver trades work. Several happen every year. Much better players than Morneau have been traded after the July 31st deadline. Read this, guys: How August Trades Work: Your MLB Waiver Season Primer, 2012 - Twinkie Town
  23. This topic might be more relevant tomorrow. As far as we know, TR is working the phones like crazy.
