In a Way, the Twins Made the Playoffs Last Night
Sjoski replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've lived in 5 different states, MN since 2002. Been to 100 of games in 20+ stadiums. I find it very difficult to embrace this organization and totally understand the frustrated fan base. As a transplant, its very easy for me to "find another team." Go D-Backs. Ownership has far less money than Minnesota, but spending $172 Million in 2024... 42+ than MN. They also spread the money over several players, not just TWO. ESPN the Magazine rated the D-backs as the No. 6 team in Major League Baseball in its Ultimate Standings, which gauges success both on and off the field and has referred to the Arizona Diamondbacks as the "best workplace in sports." Under Kendrick’s leadership, through equity and debt restructures, the team has eliminated more than $350 million of debt. -
In a Way, the Twins Made the Playoffs Last Night
Sjoski replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wish it was only 30 million. Twins actually forked over 36 million this year...and 36 more in 2025. Imagine how an extra 6 million could of been used on the bullpen? And in 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028. If this isn't the worst contract in Twins history, can someone show me one that is? -

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1125149/wealthiest-mlb-teams-owners/ # 6 on the list is the Dolan Brothers, Guardians Owners. Yet, they are putting a better product on the field year to year. Just saying, it doesn't just come down to money. Rosters are built via: Draft choices, Trades, FA signings, Waiver Wire. I doubt anyone can find a GM in MLB that can top this trend of trading for injured pitchers. Sam Dyson 2019 11.1 innings. ( Never to appeared in MBL again.) Chris Paddack 105.2 innings over 3 years. Average of 35 inning a year for a starter.? Kenta Maeda: 2021, 2nd year as Twin, 106 innings and out for the rest of 2021 and entire 2022 season. Chris Paddack 2022-24 105.2 innings over 3 years. Average of 35 inning a year for a starter.? Tyler Mahle 2022-23. Pitches a combined 42 innings and he's done. Justin Topa 2024 ZERO INNINGs AnthonyDeSclafani 2024 ZERO INNINGS How big of a dent have these trades put in the Twins future rosters? Am I missing anyone....these are trades remember....just trades..... Opposite side of the equation is trading away healthy pitchers like Ryan Pressly and Berrios, both 2X All-Stars.

Agree with it all, just added one other reason I think is a factor. -- For multiple reasons I don't feel safe in downtown Mpls anymore. Haven't set foot in it since 2020. I use to attend 10-12 games a year. Last game was in 2019. 2019: The year of the Bomba Squad. 2019: The year Rocco wins manager of the year for filling out a lineup card.

Resetting Expectations for Carlos Correa
Sjoski replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins remind me of a guy who buys a Corvette, then has no money left over to build a garage for it. -
Too funny.....this happened way back, but the story goes, some SF Giants fan actually shot up this TV after the Giants blew a game.

Didn't say anything remotely close to that, or "think" it as you say. I was just commenting on the amazing player Puckett was. That's how you win two World Series. I do appreciate on this blog that most people are not putting words in other contributors minds or mouths.

It's amazing how one pitcher can face 21 batters, throw 88 pitches, and give up 2 hits....only to have the next guy entirely reverse that in 10 pitches.

Q: How did Kirby Puckett, who played on artificial turf, rarely miss a game? He only missed 15 games from 1985-1989. His following seasons were also impressive. Torii Hunters numbers are similar. Yet today, seems like players are constantly injured. My theory is players are more concerned about their futures, staying on the field long-term to keep the pay checks coming than they are about the short-term. They think of themselves more as commodities and baseball as a business. Gamers like Puckett are far more rare today. MLB has changed. AND....who can blame them? If I was in their shoes, I'd probably think the same way.

Twins Payrolls Since 1988 vs. MLB (Cheap Pohalds?)
Sjoski commented on bean5302's blog entry in Shallow Thoughts - bean5302
Does anyone care? Great question. Over the years I've traveled to see the Twins on the road in several cities.....I use to attend an average of 20 games a year here at home. Now I refuse to support the Twins....haven't been to Target Field in 5 years. I am committed to the Twins as they are to putting a competitive team on the field. -
<<<It is amazing that the cupboard is so bare for relief pitchers at the AAA level.>>> Twins are simply choosing not to pay for a bullpen, They'd rather pay two guys to watch the team fold up like a lawn chair than do that. (Together Correa and Buxton are being paid $48 million. Accounting for 37% of the team's entire payroll.) An entirely different conversation, but the number of injury prone players this team signs and trades for is alarming.

https://evanalytics.com/mlb/leaderboards/team-bullpen-rankings Twins pen is medicore at best. Very little chance they get past the first round in the playoffs, if they even get in.

Not surprised at all Sonny left. I believe he was frustrated in MN with the hyper analytical approach in handling the pitching staff. It was a quick exodus......what does that tell you?

Why Every Single Twins Hitter Is Actually Just Another Miguel Sano

Sonny Gray Might Have Been Front Offices’ Greatest Work
Sjoski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Gray has talked about retiring.....we'll see. He's had a good career. Maybe he comes back in 2024, here or elsewhere. Probably bugs him he closed the year with a clunker. -
Astros 3, Twins 2: The Season is Over
Sjoski replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins were out managed. How fitting, Pressly polishes them off, another wasted trade, we get two AAA players in exchange for an All-Star, World Series winning , record setting closer. A. J. Pierzynski nailed in the broadcast....(after Rocco pulls Ryan) "all it takes is for one guy in the bullpen to have a bad day and the game could be over". What a call.- 126 replies

Carlos Correa is Flirting with History
Sjoski replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No mention of Billy Hitchcock in the article...WHO? Billy grounded into 30 DP in only 399 at bats in 1950...that's one DP per 13.3 at bats....Unless Carlos hits into a slew of DPs....at least he won't hold that dubious diss-stink-sion. Correa is hitting into one DP every 17.06 at bats. Billy Hitchcock 1950 stats- 26 replies

Can Byron Buxton Actually Get Healthy?
Sjoski replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton has been injured or disabled for over 50% of his time with the Twins. In comparison, Puckett and Hunter were on the field over 90% of the time. Just unfortunate for both Buxton and Twins fans.
