  1. A lot of the same usual questions. The Kepler one was the only surprise. I was hoping someone would ask him about Bailey Ober. Something like.... "Hey Keith, you were in early on Jordan Balazovic, what about another Twins prospect this year. Bailey Ober has been putting up crazy numbers when healthy and certainly has the build to be a front line pitcher. Any thoughts on him"
  2. Keith Law did an article about September Prospect call ups worth watching Graterol had a blurb and Law wrote something about his delivery being high effort. What?!? That's like one of the easiest 100mph deliveries I've ever seen. Right? I mean, I'm not crazy, right?
  3. Interesting thought experiment.... Would you rather have: Odo and Pineda - for $36M or Cole and Smeltzer - for $36M Feel free to replace Smeltzer with any of the other guys like him (Thorpe, Gonsalves, etc)
  4. Except he's had league average start duration, but above average start results.
  5. Here's a link to an MLB Trade Rumors article about potential QO Players. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/09/forecasting-the-qualifying-offer-market.html
  6. Seven QO in 2018. https://www.mlb.com/news/list-of-players-who-got-qualifying-offers-c300130990 Keuchel Corbin AJ Pollack Grandal Ryu Harper Kimbrel Ryu was the only one to accept it. Nobody else ended up with their original team
  7. Yep. This. If the Twins want him back, the best way to accomplish that would be to use the QO as leverage. Not in a mean way, but as a "Listen, Jake, we want you back, but we can't let you go for nothing, so if we can't come to agreeable extension, then we're going to have to QO you." Perhaps he calls their bluff and doesn't mind the 18M 1 year deal. I mean, that's obviously more than he'd get for AAV on the open market. And on a 1 year deal I doubt the Twins would be too worried about that $18M either. Not the ideal spend of $18M, but very little overall risk associated with it.
  8. Only ONE TIME has Ober given up more than 1 run in a game this year. Not even just earned runs.... any kind of runs. July 14th must haunt him. 3 whole earned runs
  9. I mean, I agree with you that it would be incredibly surprising to see him called up, but.... why not? Obviously we've got some 40-man implications, but for a second let's just ignore those. Ober has never not dominated. Never. The only thing is, he can't stay healthy. Maybe he's injury prone, maybe he's just been really unlucky, but right now, he's healthy. Once someone is making a joke of AA, then for me, it's time to try them out in the majors. Maybe the guy's body has 1000 good innings in it. Then let's get as many of those 1000 at the major league level as possible
  10. 2008 we had five SP win 10+ wins
  11. 2010 we had five SP with 10+ wins AND one RP with 10+ wins
  12. Generally I agree that $1.9M is probably not worth it for what you'd use Billy Hamilton for. The most likely scenario is that he helps in a few spots but nothing that's going to effect the outcome of the season, or the playoffs. BUT, there is a non-zero chance that his presence on defense or on the bases is THE thing that puts us over the top. My confusion isn't so much with the front office, but what seems like half the people on this website that were against having him on the team. I can't, for the life of me, figure out that opinion.
  13. Maybe the Twins did put in a claim and the priority just didn't make it to us.
  14. Anti-Hamilton: The dude can't swing his way out of a phone booth Pro-Hamilton: His defense and baserunning are great AH: But he can't get on base PH: I don't want him to ever take an at bat AH: You can't roster that guy PH: You can roster 40 people in September AH: But he can't hit PH: I KNOW! I DON'T WANT HIM TO! Buxton is not going to be back until at least September Send Cave down for 10 days and have Hamilton as your 5th outfielder (Gonzalez is #4). If he HAS to be in the starting lineup one day, so be it. Come Sept 1, you call up Cave, your roster crunch is completely gone, and you have a great late inning defensive replacement and pinch runner. Ideally, he never has another PA as a Minnesota Twin.
  15. Seems as though I might have been confusing him with Duran
  16. The front office identified two players that it thought might be able to help in September and the playoffs and wanted those players to get some time with the MLB ball (at AAA) before playing in the majors. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that.
  17. His ERA out of the bullpen is much lower. Also, why would the front office care one iota about making the Pressly trade look better by promoting Alcala? 99.99% of fans know almost nothing about the minor leagues and certainly have never in their lives heard of Alcala.
  18. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhd Bleeeeessssssssssss Amerrrrrrrrrrrrricaaaaaaaa.....
  19. Is it done yet? Slowest version ever
  20. Also... so what if he’s not on any of the playoff rosters? Is there a chance he helps us win a game in September (with expanded rosters)? I think that answer is yes. In order to have him in September (and maybe the playoffs) as a pinch runner and defensive replacement, we need to carry him for the last 12 days in August, which also coincides with time that Buxton will almost certainly still be on the DL. Option Cave until Sept 1 Add Hamilton Basically the only risk is missing Cave’s bat for the next 12 days. I don’t think most of us are very worried about that risk.
  21. Smeltzer deserved so much better this inning. Cron messed up what should’ve been out #1, then 3 singles with an exit velocity of less than 60mph probably.
  22. My impression from the interview was that they very much view him internally as a SP, but any major league use this year would likely be from the bullpen.
