  1. The metric is actually called Infield outs Above Average, but let's just say it doesn't paint a pretty picture of the Twins defense. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/infield_outs_above_average Polanco, 2nd to last among qualified players
  2. If it is true, then it at least makes sense with the timing of the Nats signing Cabrera.
  3. This tweet (from yesterday) is almost certainly false, so take it with a gigantic grain of salt....
  4. Ooooh. Juicy. I like it
  5. I suppose 3rd is better than 30th!
  6. I’m not here to say it’s been a successful offseason, but to lead the analysis of EVERY transaction with “that’s not impact pitching” is getting extremely annoying.
  7. Yeah. We all know. It’s been beaten to death.
  8. Normally, I might agree with you here, but with the uniqueness of this offseason (4 rotation spots to fill) I think it WAS very important to establish a rotation floor for a team coming off of 101 wins. Do I wish that floor included Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler, or Ryu? Yes. But, while the Bailey signing certainly isn't sexy, it's the type of signing that was almost certainly going to happen to fill one of the 4 open spots.
  9. The 90M number was pure speculation by the author of the article. And it was framed as "offers likely above 90M" not "its a 90M offer"
  10. Can the moderators please start banning the use of the phrase “impact pitching.” Its such a weak crutch for people to fall back on when they don’t want to critically think about why moves were made. Stop. It’s tired.
  11. Good read... seemed to fit with this thread.... https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/platform/amp/2019/12/23/21033869/dont-let-mlb-insult-you-goodbye-revenue-cubs-red-sox-ricketts-wrigley-fenway-sports-group?utm_campaign=beyondtheboxscore&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&__twitter_impression=true
  12. Here's what it comes down to for me.... They talked about kicking the door down when the window is open (which it obviously is) while at the same time not sacrificing the future or having that window close too soon. Great. I agree with that thinking. The obvious way too accomplish those things simultaneously was to sign an impact SP free agent. Basically.... it costs money. But money that they obviously could handle within budget. They failed at that. Now they can, via trade, accomplish the first goal, while likely negatively impacting the second goal, or they can accomplish the second goal while ignoring the first goal. They can no longer have both. THAT is why I'm disappointed. The path was so obvious, yet, it was not followed.
  13. Imagine being a front office that thinks their team's success in 2023 has anything to do with whether Ryu is on the books for $20M
  14. Oooooooorrrrrr.... They could look at a 101 win team that likely overachieved a little and think "holy crap, that was fun. Let's do that again"... then look at their payroll situation and think "wow! we actually have the money to do that!"
  15. Maybe I'm confused about what you are saying.... We know Wheeler left $7M on the table to play in Philly and not Chicago We know Bumgarner left AT LEAST $15M on the table (and agreed to incredibly friendly terms) to play in AZ. And it was likely more like $25M on the table. We know these things.
  16. Normally I'd say that's the case, but we have two definite cases this year, where guys took significantly less money than their top offer.
  17. I'm not saying this is definitely a factor, but do you think it's possible that the service time mistreatment of Byron Buxton in 2018 is causing some agents to push their clients in other directions? Edited to add: Zach Wheeler has the same agency as Buxton
  18. I can't wait to tell my grandkids about how incredibly high the floor was for these Minnesota Twins.
  19. Hopefully someone like Dustin Morse, who has a voice at the table, and has been around for a while will explain to Falvey and Levine what a monumental mistake the last 2 months have been.
  20. It's incredible that the Twins Organization has managed to completely kill every piece of momentum that the 101 win Bomba Squad created for them. All the "kicking down the door" talk and "impact pitching" promises just ended up being complete BS. My big fear isn't a financial one. I don't think the Twins are necessarily afraid to spend money. I think they have a crippling fear of spending money poorly and I'm worried that the front office, honestly, just doesn't understand the market/situation. I know they can still add pitching via trade, but that should always be last resort. We could've added pitching for just money. Now it will cost money and your precious prospects. Good job proving the trolls correct, front office. You really fouled up what should've been an incredible opportunity. And this is coming from someone who 99.9% of the time is defending the decisions made by the front office.
  21. He’s a true ace. Most of his rate stats are better than Strasburg over the last couple years. You will never ever get an ace this cheap, except for the fact that Ryu has the injury risk/history that he has. The desire to avoid another year is equal parts understandable and idiotic. Pay the man, get your ace, and hope you get most of 3 good seasons out of him. Anything near or more than 3 years of health out of 4 makes this an absolute steal. 20M in dead weight isn’t going to kill you in a given season, especially if you can keep your cheap prospects.
  22. It’s impossible to justify not even having him on the depth starters. Impossible. They should’ve either ignored the question or been like “whoops we overlooked him because he started a playoff game and we assumed he wasn’t still rookie eligible.”
  23. I think they justified all three of those positional designations in the writeups for those players.
  24. Depending on what happens on the FA market the rest of this offseason (if we still have extra budget in February), I’d “front load” it more. Same salary all 4 years
