    Normally, I might agree with you here, but with the uniqueness of this offseason (4 rotation spots to fill) I think it WAS very important to establish a rotation floor for a team coming off of 101 wins. Do I wish that floor included Cole, Strasburg, Wheeler, or Ryu? Yes. But, while the Bailey signing certainly isn't sexy, it's the type of signing that was almost certainly going to happen to fill one of the 4 open spots.

    Can the moderators please start banning the use of the phrase “impact pitching.” Its such a weak crutch for people to fall back on when they don’t want to critically think about why moves were made. Stop. It’s tired.

    Oooooooorrrrrr.... They could look at a 101 win team that likely overachieved a little and think "holy crap, that was fun. Let's do that again"... then look at their payroll situation and think "wow! we actually have the money to do that!"

    This was exactly my thought when I saw Rosenthal’s tweet about entering the Donaldson sweepstakes. Combined, those two would be 45-50M per season, which puts payroll in the 145M range, which SHOULD be fine, but if they felt they needed to clear some payroll so they could sign a 1b, then Rosario is the most likely target

    Something I've been thinking about but just officially confirmed.... I think mentally, one of the benefits for Asian players playing on the West Coast is the amount of flights that can get them directly to their home country. Makes sense. I thought I remembered a new route from MSP to ICN (Seoul, South Korea) being talked about, and sure enough, in April of 2019 Delta started a new direct daily flight between the two cities. That might seem like a small thing, but I bet it's actually something that may significantly help sway Ryu off of the west coast. Also, it would help with getting Korean Ryu fans to and from some of the games they may want to see in person. We also shouldn't completely neglect the little increase in marketing opportunities by having one of the few active South Korean players. I'm in for 3/72

    Re: "There's no chance Dobnak explodes into some new Strata" I guess it depends on what Strata you have him in currently. For some people him turning into a 4th starter is a new strata. I'm guessing you were talking about a true #1 or #2 starter, which I agree is extremely unlikely, but "no chance" ignores the history of a Randy Dobnak like player doing just that every few years. And with how you very effectively laid out how tough some of his pitches are to face, I think ending the article with a "no chance" closing statement does the rest of the article a disservice.

    If it wasn't for the suspension I wouldn't have been surprised at all if he got a QO.

    Literally not a single person has slotted him in above 4th on the staff. We don’t like this deal because he solidifies the top of out rotation we like this deal because as your 4th/5th starter he’s a good combination of experience and upside. And the contract is super palatable. The only way this signing can be viewed negatively is if you project the assumption that this is our biggest pitching signing.

    I don't believe there are adequate words in the English language to describe how much I disagree with this take. Usually the Germans have good words for extreme emotions. I'll see if Kepler can help me out.

    Seems to me that Keith Law changes his tune on Lewis's defense about twice a year.

    I'd trade Kirilloff and Lewis and not even blink. That's incredible value for Chapman. Chapman already is at 3rd base what we all dream of Buxton being in CF. Incredible defense with really good offense. I believe it was Baldelli that said Chapman is the best 3b defender he's ever seen.

    My thought from “Offseason Blueprint: Bet the Farm”..... Chapman for Buxton, Kirilloff, and Balazovic. It’s painful and seems like a little much, which probably means it’s just right

    Obviously Cole is the big stretch here. Wheeler (5/100) & Ryu (3/60) might be more realistic and cost close to the same as Cole in total AAV. You could still do the Boyd trade and he’d nudge Dobnak out of the lineup. Since were betting the farm here.... let’s do it. Wheeler Berrios Ryu Odorizzi Boyd Let’s play

    Since we are going for broke.... Do everything you said but Move Sano to 1st Trade Buxton, Kiriloff, Balazovich for Matt Chapman (who says no?) Sign a defense-first CF free agent That’s roughly payroll neutral to the original proposal

    Could be... but where is the point where the Twins (or any other team) would deem it an acceptable risk. I'm sure Dyson doesn't want to go an entire calendar year without getting paid. Sign him to: 2020 - $2M 2021 - $3M That's probably a little more than is necessary, but that probably gets it done on Dyson's side. At that point you're competing against all 29 other teams, so a little overpay (if you want him) will likely be required. You might get Dyson toward the tail end of 2020 and you'd have him for 2021. If Dyson gets fixed, then $5M is worth it. If he's not fixed, then you're lighting $5M on fire.
