Sign Nathaniel Lowe (1/11M) (net plus 11M) Overall payroll up ~$6M from where it’s at right now.     I think many of us consider the bullpen to be Prielipp's most likely long term landing spot, and given the lack of movement by the FO to retool the bullpen this offseason from outside the organization, it seems like the FO is assuming several open spots will be filled by players who have been starters. Prielipp seems like an obvious prime candidate for that and, hot off the presses, he is now a Baseball America top 100 prospect. That got me thinking about PPI (Prospect Promotion Incentive). He would need to also appear on ESPN or MLB's top 100 preseason list to become eligible, but given the visibility of the closer role, if Prielipp has a successful season as the Twins closer he would certainly garner some ROY consideration, whereas if he was "just" a setup man, that seems less likely. Do you think Front Offices take this sort of thing into consideration?

    Don't get me wrong, I think Culpepper will contribute to the Twins by mid season, but the orginaization can't assume that and I think we all just have forgotten that he's only played 59 games at AA. I think it might be more likely he starts the year at AA than AAA.

    Based on what? His limited time in the majors is roughly split between all 4 infield positions and his time in the minors he was predominantly a SS.

    I feel like people forgot that Keachall had TJ Surgery 18 months ago and before that he was playing CF regularly. Gabriel Gonzalez as a better overall defensive OF? Get real.

    I like Jeffers, but what teams are looking at their 2026 catching options and thinking “Jeffers would be a big upgrade over this” To someone’s earlier point, if a team who was looking at 2026 as a contending year felt they needed a better catcher they could’ve accomplished that by signing Caratini. Sure Jeffers is a bit better and only a one year commitment, but a) the difference between them in not THAT vast, and b) for most teams looking to compete in 2026, the extra year commitment at $7m is a big whatever, especially compared to the asset(s) that might be needed to acquire Jeffers from the Twins. So you need to find a team that wants to really compete in 2026, lacks good catching, is kind of pinching pennies, and has some trade assets they are willing to give up.

    Really interesting how many people in this thread feel like they know what the Twins 2026 payroll is going to be. a) the Twins haven’t said anything about it with any detail b) what possible incentive would they have to give payroll details? ”Yep. We’re going to be at $110M on the button.” They would lose what little amount of leverage they might feel like they have.

    ... and grandfather themselves in as much as possible. Can't really force the Dodgers to immediately get cap compliant if the contracts are already signed. I mean you COULD, but that seems unlikely

    I agree that they have a strategy of trying to find value to fill out their roster, which is why it's so confusing every year when there's the "I'm not sure offering that guy arbitration was the best decision" moment. It's a corollary to the "value" strategy which involves being terrified of letting an experienced MLB player go for nothing in return. The Rays love value, and much of their success is built off of it, but have absolutely NO problem cutting bait on a player or trading them what is seemingly a year or two "too early." The value strategy doesn't work if you don't apply it equally to your existing roster.

    re: Phillies And a GM that has no issue trading good prospects for elite MLB players. Dombrowski, perhaps more than any other PoBO/GM sees prospects as trade chips over an MLB pipeline of talent.

    The only thing I really take issue with here is Bradley at 10. If he still had all 6 years of team control, maybe, but he only has 4 years left. Having Abel only 1 spot better than him with his 6+ years of control, and in my opinion a more likely path the SP success, seems out of balance. Also, was Buxton really NR on your 2025 list, or is that a typo?

    Seems to me that it's basically a trade value rankings. Within that, depending on where a given team is at, the might prefer the value of 6+ years on Prielipp control over 2 years of Ober control. If you were a contenting team, you might prefer the Ober side of a theoretical Ober/Prielipp swap, but if you were a rebuilding team you might prefer the Prielipp side (if I type his name enough times I might remember how to spell it) Based on Nick's response it seems like he's baked that in a little bit, by acknowledging where the Twins are at right now in the competitive cycle. If, say, the Twins were coming off of a Wild Card birth and hadn't gutted their bullpen, this Twins-specific list might have Ober a few spots higher and Prielipp a few spots lower.

    If 2026 was all that mattered, I'd agree, but I given the fact that Lopez, Ryan, and Ober are only controlled through 2027, I feel like we need to continue to develop those young SP prospects as Starting Pitchers, at least until the point where it becomes obvious that they aren't viable as that. If we could look into our Magic ball and know for sure which 3 aren't going to make it as SPs, then yeah, convert them to RP now, but I don't know how we do that with any certainty.

    I think ultimately what I want to see is something that resembles a plan. As was stated, there are different directions that this team could go at this moment, and I may not like the decisions they make, but if it looks like a plan and they articulate it, then I can support it. I'm going to go back to the trade deadline. It actually felt like they were enacting a plan. You could quibble with individual trade packages and decisions, but I felt like I could see a grand plan. Then the last hour before the deadline happened and it felt like Falvey got trade-drunk and was like "eff it... why not? This is fun" That last hour felt off script and I still worry that it did long term damage not only on the field, but off the field as well. Falvey was looking at each potential deal in a silo and got caught up in the wave of trades he was making. He had no regard for the overall message it was sending players and fans

    Bell was really bad vs LHP in 2025, but over the course of his career he's been perfectly fine against LHP (worse than vs RHP, but still above average). You only need to go back to 2023 to see a year where he was actually better against lefties than righties and in that case he was significantly better against lefties (he was also better against them in 2022 and 2021). In fact, his career splits that show him as much better vs righties seem to be largely due to his horrendous 2025 against lefties.

    In my previous 2-piece Duran/Rutchman ideas, Jeffers was an ancillary piece going to the Orioles. Lopez + good prospect for Duran jeffers + elite prospect for Rutchman. Anyway… I’ve strayed off topic. New front office needs to make some sort of big splash and it doesn’t necessarily have to mean some huge jump in payroll.
