Personally I am not that distressed about Dobnak. We'll see if everyone's hopes in him are rewarded. I want the man to have the best October cancelled honeymoon evah! Mildly surprised at Big Red's butterflies. Hope he gets a chance to show he can shake them off. Stashak just had a character-building experience that is not his fault. Hope his boss learned something from it.

While your assessment of Berrios' performance is accurate (he may have adjusted in the bottom of the 4th...?), a greater share of the blame belongs farther up the food chain. We managed to lose this game.

In a word, alarming. These are not decisions that lead to winning a ball game and establishing primacy over an opponent. Takeaways: Lying to the fans and the press that players on the roster are "100%" is wrong. It is understandable to want Arraez' bat (proven today), but not at the expense of the manager's honor. Please stop before credibility is completely lost. The better call would have been to start Schoop and PH Arraez when the situation called for it. Keep the other guy guessing about what is really in your hand. The leash is STILL not short enough when pitchers are showing they don't have their stuff.Stashak may belong on the roster, but he does not belong in a 1-run game in Yankee Stadium against the meat of their order. The dogs in the street know that Gibson is too ill to pitch effectively, and today proves it yet again. He should be watching while receiving treatment/therapy. Shame on management for continuing to run him out; shame on him for not blowing the whistle. Why waste an outing from Graterol once a decision is taken to throw in the towel by leaving Gibson on the mound to give away 3 runs? He is not a garbage time pitcher - why treat him that way?!?!What message does leaving Gibson out send to the team's hitters when there are still 6 outs left? The Twins have given up initiative in this series and the only way to get it back is to win tomorrow. Going home with backs against the wall almost guarantees and early end to October. Manager of the year? Not based on this performance.

Front Page: Twins ALDS Roster Announced
VivaBomboRivera! replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Technically cheating since we are underway, but statement would not change: Gibson is too ill to play and should be watching while receiving treatment/therapy. The bottom of the 7th just proved this. No objection to Stashak's presence, but his appearance in a 1-run situation is baffling... -
In a situation with multiple fielders closing on a fly ball in the infield, it falls to the catcher to call out the player in the best position to make the out. Couldn't tell from the audio and unable to see Garver's face, but his body language is that of an observer. That was Astudillo's ball. Teammates should have been warning off Arraez.

Big opportunity for a Brusdar breakout. But don't forget, they also used 6 relievers, and three more threw 36 pitches over 3.2 innings the night before. Score early. Score often. AMEN!

Twins got just about everything they wanted from this series, in spite of letting the third game slip away. Without wallowing too deeply in the loss, we should not forget that the score might have been different if Sano had not been careless on the base paths after his first inning hit. The guy needs to stay focused even when he's playing hot. Gibson is too ill to contribute and should be convalescing. The remainder of his career depends on him getting well. Net is the Twins faced three of the league's best starters and were able to take the upper hand. Assuming management has learned from the results of the bullpen experiment they are likely rebuilding the rotation for the remainder of the month and beyond. As of the 14th, Twins are 8th in the Majors in ERA (4.17) and 5th in FIP (3.67). Take Pineda and Gibson out and that doesn't change much. Knocking down Cleveland takes out one of those better pitching teams. If we're really lucky, Tampa Bay will find a way to do our dirty work for us so we can crush them in the ALCS the same way we did during the season. Personally I took a running leap and boarded the Bomba Bus in early June after the brakes had already been cut. Will be at Target Field for two games of the KC series. The Twins aren't likely to clinch by then unless the Motor City Kitties and the Phils stick it to Cleveland, but I'm riding this rickety crate into October, where I fully expect them to smack down the Yankees. That is all.

Wow, a 5-hit, 9 SO, 1 BB shutout. Even in the 6th of today's second game, there's plenty of fine horseflesh to appreciate in the Twins stables. We just pushed our division opposition to 5 losses back. A 10 - 5 record against a mess of cupcakes for the rest of the month gets us to 100 wins. Once we've clinched, there will be plenty of time to sort out a playoff rotation.

Late to the party, but it ought to be said that this was the first game since Gibson & Rogers shut out KC on 14 June that the FPPF (Fan Pitching Pucker Factor) did not exceed 40 (on a scale with 100 indicating absolute peak pucker).

Last night's loss was not particularly disheartening, but the injury and suspension reports that followed sure were. Will be intriguing to see how management re-builds the rotation. Front Page: Twins Need Rosario to Rein it In
VivaBomboRivera! replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Abriged for brevity: But, you’re arguing that Sano is an undisciplined hitter in terms of swinging outside of the zone... You might think so, but that is not the case. The post points to a noticeable improvement in this area. Even the great can get better. There are endless statistics out there that will tell you Sano is a pretty damn good hitter... True. A number of them were cited. Posts elsewhere note still more cold hard facts that say Sano has been good and is getting better. Why is it people always feel like he’s loafing, and they need to get more out of him? What more do people want...? There are indeed Sano haterz out there. Please do not confuse VivaBomboRivera! for one of them. It’s time for people to take the blinders off and appreciate Sano... Could not agree more. Let me buy you a drink and we'll watch the game. -
Thanks, Tom. Two things that impressed and offer hope: You pointed out the welcome return of velocityThe diving stop and throw to first on Benintendi's grounder demonstrate that the hunger and will are thereHe and the coaches have 23 games/four starts to figure the mechanics out. Godspeed.

Front Page: Twins Need Rosario to Rein it In
VivaBomboRivera! replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The overall strikeout number is high, but look at the drop since July. Curious to see there is more improvement and where the season number will come in. I'm sure Rowson's long-term goal is to get his SO% under 30% or even better. Not sure what to make of the ungodly 2015 walk stat, except that he only had 335 PAs. -

VivaBomboRivera! replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
First, thanks for enforcing a fact check. It's important to be certain of the numbers if our opinions are to mean anything. It was indeed a surprise to find Sano leading the team in BB/PA (45/363, 12.4%). Next best is Castro at 28/242, 11.6%. Sano's MLB BB% has never been below 10%, but he only has two seasons with more than 400 PA. Of Twins players with over 400 PA this season, only Kepler and Cruz are at/over 10%. Rosario (18/497, 3.6%) and Schoop (16/397, 4.0%) do least well in this category among major batters in Twins 2019 lineup. Rosario does much better than Sano at not striking out. This season he has recorded 71Ks for 14.3% of his PAs. Sano leads Twins batters with 132 (36.4%). The first half vs second half and monthly stats tell a fuller story of Sano's improved discipline. His BB% rose from 11.3% to 13.3% at the same time his SO% dropped appreciably from 38.1% to 34.9%. This is particularly noticeable in the month of July, but he slipped back in August. He has significantly reduced his number of swings at pitches outside the zone this year, a major Rosario issue. The perception has been that the number of strikes called on those irritating check swings has also dropped, but I can't locate data to support this at the moment. Rosario and Sano are certainly different classes of hitters. But if Sano can apply what he's learned from Rowson and Hernandez, then Rosario should also be able to do so. -

VivaBomboRivera! replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Uh, no. He had a most unfortunate check swing habit that he has learned to control. He is earning walks at a heretofore unseen pace. These improvements in his judgment mean that opposing pitchers can no longer get away with throwing him unhittable crap outside the zone.
