  1. Respectfully, I couldn't possibly disagree more with this take.
  2. The rotation is a huge question mark this season and an even bigger one next season UNLESS rookies step up.
  3. Agreed. Feels like a classic leverage play on his part and I can't blame him to be honest. Negotiation 101.
  4. Braves beat reporter from The Athletic just tweeted that he has confirmation that Braves have now offered Donaldson a 4 year contract...
  5. I'd take Story for Royce Lewis and prospects 10 times out of 10. Story is a stud and we would be ecstatic if Royce Lewis became 60% of the player Story is right now
  6. HIll is a total wild card and tough to really depend on at this point. He's going to be 40 years old and underwent "modified" Tommy John surgery. If he really is able to come back midseason and be as effective as he's been the past several seasons, it's complete gravy. Bailey seems to be a total wildcard to me. Yes, he's been injured and terrible the lasat 3+ years. However, something seemed to click when he got traded to Oakland last year. Maybe Wes and the guys can build off that. Nevertheless, it's disappointing because we all know deep down that these two moves are going to be it, more or less, on the pitching side this offseason. There is no evidence whatsoever that this FO is willing to put player before contract and settle for something other than low-risk, 1-year deals. Gotta keep those books clean! or something... The battle for the AL central crown is going to be a dogfight Praying that Graterol, Balazovic, and Duran pan out
  7. Lots of the successful, championship winning teams in recent years have generally consisted of homegrown, organizationally developed lineups. When the homegrown position players peak, the front offices have gone out and signed or traded prospects for established pitching. Obviously exceptions can be pointed out like Strasburg (he was drafted by Washington), but he seems to be more the exception than the rule.
  8. Maybe this has already been mentioned, but my concern with Graterol is that he doesn’t miss a ton of bats. I mean, you see the big 102 mph fastball with tons of movement, a wipeout slider, and apparently a decent change up (didn’t see it out of the bullpen) and you’d expect huge strikeout numbers. Reality though is that his electric stuff hasn't really translated to big strikeout numbers even in the low minors. looks like about 1 strikeout per inning pitched in his minors career. just a thought
  9. It’s so frustrating that we are even talking about “cheap”, “inexpensive”, “value buys”. This team won 101 games, is young, $30-40 million below the low end of what it should be spending, and just blew open its competitive window. Ps, we have like $15 million committed beyond next year and seemingly unlimited prospect capital to swing pretty much any deal imaginable (if willing to pull the trigger) But the front office has left us to talk about crumbs and scrap heap players. Expectations being ratcheted down weekly. its not all about payroll. Spending does not equal winning. But the FO has shown zero willingness to trade prospects for impact pitching. Last trade deadline we KNEW we needed pitching for the playoffs and for this season and they did NOTHING. I’m expecting next to nothing on the trade market, every team knows we’re desperate. We’re in a terrible negotiating position. Make a move and get back to me. Otherwise it’s all talk and same old, same old. (this criticism isn’t directed at OP, but rather the FO)
  10. THIS. 1000 times this.
  11. Good, rock-solid pitcher. Very much in the Terry Ryan/Falvine mold of a signing...1 year, vet, cheap, zero-risk. He'll be a good, reliable back end of the bullpen arm
  12. Buster Olney tweeted that with most FA pitchers signed, the Twins (and White Sox) are seen as most desperate for pitching help. https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/1207026472323407872?s=20 Slow clap for backing ourselves into a great negotiating position re: trades and free agency....
  13. Agreed, most teams that win World Series don't commit more than 15-20% of their payroll to a single player. Not advocating the Twins to go out and sign MadBum for $25 million per (don't think he's worth that). In fact, no club that has committed more than 20 percent of its payroll to one player has won the World Series since 2003. Just frustrating because the team hasn't won a single playoff game since 2004 and only one playoff series since 1991. The one overarching constant that entire time has been the ownership group and 3 front offices that are by their very nature an extension of ownership (they hire them after all). Maybe the Twins ownership group has no idea how to build, using your words, "a dominant team that succeeds in the playoffs" because they haven't done it in nearly 30 years.
  14. The way I deal with the FA/Trade disappointment syndrome that so many fans feel is to just not get my hopes up *ever* about about making a splashy move. It's not the way the organization operates. Never has, probably never will. They've literally NEVER done it. I will operate from this mind set until proven different by the FO.
  15. If the Twins don't want to give MadBum $20+ million a year, why on earth would they trade for washed up, injury prone David Price and pay even more salary for him? Makes zero sense IMO.
  16. Goes without saying, but Betances is an absolute stud. He did however only pitch 0.2 innings last year due to lat and shoulder injuries. His season then ended for good after those 0.2 innings with a partially torn achilles.
  17. @https://twitter.com/CraigMish/status/1204812403986202624?s=20 "Marlins have discussed Eddie Rosario with the Twins, per source. Asking price also extremely high. Miami’s new Bench Coach/Offensive Coordinator James Rowson has familiarity with Rosario." Boom.
  18. I'd do Rosario and Balazovic or Duran for Alcantara. Sign me up for that
  19. Marlins apparently want a left-handed hitting outfielder per Heyman. Call them and offer Rosario and prospects to see if we can take Alcantara off their hands?
  20. It's pretty simple really....If you want to play in Free Agency, you HAVE to wrap your head around the fact that you are going to be locking yourself into a "dumb" contract more than likely. Not sure if Falvine are there or ever will be. That's just the way it is. You're going to have to overpay 9 times out of 10. Not a lot of "good" deals to be had in free agency with the upper echelon names. Seems like this front office is obsessed with getting "good" deals and ensuring we have financial flexibility as opposed to just going for it, even if it means years 3, 4, and 5 of a five year deal may be rough. This is not a bad approach if you're not a contending team. We're constantly told to value short term deals and the financial flexibility it affords. I'm not really sure what the financial flexibility is good for if you never actually use the "flexibility".
  21. Ryu is very, very, good and would look great slotting in at the top of the Twins rotation. I'd love to have him. With that said, his injury history scares the *bleep* out of me. He's arguably the most injury prone starting pitcher in baseball. He missed all of 2015 and 2016 and has spent significant and extended time on the IL every season. Sadly, it may be hard to count on him making even 30 starts (he's only made 30 starts once in 7 seasons). That said, when healthy, he's proven to be a stud and I'd love to have him!
  22. Both Olney and Rosenthal do NOT have Twins listed among finalists for Wheeler in tweets/stories from this morning. I'm becoming more and more convinced that "impact" pitching will have to come via trade. Just really don't see this team changing 60+ years of doing things one way to just completely transform into an organization that drops $100+ million on free agents. Hope I'm wrong, but how could you possibly think any other way? Until proven otherwise, this seems to be the default position for 99.9% of fans.
  23. Pomeranz was PHENOMENAL when he moved to the bullpen full time with a 1.90 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 23⅔ innings. Sign me up for that
  24. Here's what I'd try and do: Wheeler for 4/84 ($21 AAV). I'd want to make sure his shoulder checks out before putting pen to paper but assuming everything is good, I'd be ecstatic to sign him. Think he has phenomenal stuff and has really improved each year. Get Wes Johnson and Derek Falvey's hands on him and I think he becomes a borderline ace.Re-sign Odo for 3/45 ($15 AAV)Call Texas and see what it would take to acquire Mike Minor. I'd be willing to put together a package of prospects excluding Lewis or Kiriloff. Minor is on the last year of his deal and set to make $9.5 million this coming season.1. Berrios 2. Wheeler 3. Minor 4. Odo 5. Smeltzer/Dobnak/Thorpe That's a very, very, solid rotation with legitimate upside and room for growth with Berrios and Wheeler at the top.
