  1. After tonight, it looks like the Twins are on the Friday night Apple TV schedule twice more through June 30th. 5/12 Cubs at Twins 6/2 Guardians at Twins (I don't know if the Apple schedule extends beyond 6/30.)
  2. Gallo really slumping: 2-21 with nine Ks.
  3. Pretty early to be pinch hitting for Gallo.
  4. Taylor has put down several good bunts this season.
  5. FWIW I get the same behavior on my phone, but on my PC clicking on NEXT takes me to the top of the next page. I am using Firefox on my PC.
  6. My favorite "lack of load management" story. In 1961-62 Wilt Chamberlain averaged 48.5 minutes per game. NBA games then (like now) were 48 minutes long. Wilt played in ever regular season game and in 10 games that went into OT. (He did get kicked out of one game due to getting a second technical foul. Those were the only minutes he missed all season.)
  7. I'm afraid we might see all these guys today.
  8. Maybe the best play I've seen him make.
  9. There are definitely timing his fastball.
  10. Stolen bases and SB% are up significantly. The Twins are not built to take advantage of the larger bases: https://www.si.com/mlb/2023/04/17/stolen-bases-rule-changes-increase
  11. This article by Tom Verducci points out how speed and small-ball seem to be a strategy again. The current Twins are not built for this at all, which is a problem. https://www.si.com/mlb/2023/04/05/diamondbacks-padres-mlb-new-rules-stolen-bases-speed
  12. Interesting take on the trade from SI.com: https://www.si.com/mlb/2023/01/20/luis-arraez-trade-pablo-lopez-twins-marlins
  13. I'm not sure how many owners would have to vote in favor of a salary cap. It might be 2/3 (20 out of 30). (Does anyone on TD know?) And then the players' union would also have to agree to it, and they have shown no inclination to do so. (FWIW, the owners tried to implement a salary cap in 1994, the players went on strike, and the season was cancelled: https://mlb.nbcsports.com/2019/08/12/baseball-strike-in-1994-95-began-25-years-ago/)
  14. Agree about the lack of fundamentals. There's an interesting quote from Steven Kwan of the Guardians (in an article on ESPN.com) about how Francona emphasizes the little things: "He called me into his office, which he normally doesn't do," Kwan said. "And he pulls up a video and it's a runner on first and I hit a single to right. The runner goes first to third and the right fielder sails the ball and I'm standing on first. "He asks me why I didn't take second base? I told him I hadn't had a hit in while and I got to first and I was happy to be there. He was like 'No kid, that's not what we're about. If we're going to do this we're going to do it the right way.' "That stayed with me." From what we are seeing on the field it doesn't seem like the Twins' coaches are pushing fundamentals, or their conversations aren't sinking in with the players, which is just as bad.
  15. I get that giving up an out by bunting is generally a bad strategy, but it sure seems like moving the ghost runner to third is a situation where a sacrifice is appropriate. Apparently Francona thinks so. I don't recall seeing the Twins do this much if at all this season.
