  1. I agree that there is no team identity. But that's mainly because the team is not good. Not enough power to be a Bomba Squad; not enough speed to run the bases like the Brewers; not enough good fielders to be a pitching and defense team like the Guardians. We need more talent before we can choose a course by then filling in around the margins, IMHO.
  2. Must be nice to have a reliever who throws 99 MPH ... you're saying we had three of them last year?
  3. with the lack of hitting this game is really moving along. Not even two hours and we're in the bottom of the 8th.
  4. Quite a rally so far: HBP, error, K, single, fielder's choice, walk, walk. Thank you, Tampa.
  5. On the TV broadcast they showed Clemens possibly juggling the ball. Still seemed like a bad call.
  6. Yeah, even so it's hard to understand these high school-level blunders by guys who have been pros for (typically) three or four years at least.
  7. Sounds like a most excellent adventure! Reader's of this blog might be interested in this book: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18668201-i-don-t-care-if-we-never-get-back
  8. Randy Johnson (at 6' 10") often spoke about how difficult it was for him to master his mechanics due to his height and long arms/legs. So being that tall was not an advantage.
  9. Maybe the next wave of prospects (Jenkins, Abel, Gonzalez, etc) will have some impact this season, but otherwise this is the weakest roster the team has had in 10 years.
  10. Nice summmary, thanks. An off topic comment: it would be nice if the articles on TD had photo captions. They rarely do. I have no idea who that is in the photo at the start of the article. Photo captions are kind of Journalism 101. :)
  11. Limiting the size of pitching staffs could be the solution. Teams would then have to start developing starting pitchers to go more than four or five innings. (Right now there's no incentive for teams to do this.) They'd also have to have a long reliever or two on the staff instead of seven guys who pitch one inning. A downside I suppose is there'd be a constant shuttling of pitchers from AAA, but that happens almost every season anyway.
  12. I'm not advocating for this, because I think it's a dumb idea, but are the Twins still talking about openers and "bulk relievers" and/or bullpen games? If so, I suppose this would affect the composition of the bullpen.
  13. Surprised to read he is expected to play 1B. He has not played there at all in the majors, and the Mets are supposedly trying to improve their defense. 😕
  14. Great point. When a team hires a popular ex-player as the manager, at some point the club will have to fire that guy, which generally creates bad feelings all around.
  15. Hindsight is 20-20 and all that, but it's hard to understand how a player with Lee's limited athletic ability went so high in the draft.
