  1. With a rotation of Ryu and Berrios at the top followed by Odorizzi and Pineda, Boyd even though he is Detroit's Ace he would be our #5. Yes to Boyd but no for Larnach. But that in my estimation would be a great rotation.
  2. I like the idea of Ryu and resigning Pineda. I also like trading for Boyd. But Larnach is too high a price imo for a guy that has built a mediocre resume. Granted his teams have been awful. More like Javier and Jeffers and throw in another wildcard prospect from the low minors. If I'm trading Larnach or Kiriloff its for more than a #4 SP.
  3. Avisail Garcia would be a solid replacement for Rosario were Eddie traded. And yes, part of the reason to be in on Cole and Strasburg is to make the winning teams pay more. If it isn't us.
  4. My sentiments. 2020 is not the year to start selling off the pieces we've been waiting for for the past decade. That includes Sano and Buxton as well. Sign Cole or Strasburg. And Ryu and have a great rotation. We don't need steps backward.
  5. I would prefer that myself. My concern would be is if Sano is ready for 1B yet.
  6. Everything I read is the Mets will not be trading Syndegard. I don't think that would be near enough either even if they would deal him.
  7. I honestly think the entire lineup is brought back. I see them trying to resign Cron at his 2019 salary, or he tries to test the market. I also see a resigning of Castro. Rosario will stay, he's not bringing a headline SP so why create a hole where their is none? I read where they maybe interested in bringing Perez back too. They do need to acquire a couple of SP's I see one being a FA signing, Pineda/Hamels types, and one by trade of some minor league depth. Likely for prospects who are just outside the Top10, an Odorizzi type trade of 2018. My hunch is the moves this winter will not be as major as everyone hopes they'd be.
  8. 3. I have no problem pursuing a Betts trade. You get a year to work out an extension. But Kiriloff being in the deal would make it a very poor one for the Twins. Rosario and Gordon would be fair at this point. Red Sox would be getting a replacement in Rosario and a prospect for Betts and much needed salary relief. 2, That's what Twins fans get to do is dream. Cuz we have zero history of top FA signings or blockbuster trades.
  9. Who then would you propose Tom? What I would hate to see is us overpay in trade for a proven commodity, Robbie Ray is one example that comes to my mind. Or continuing to fill our rotation with dregs such as Martin Perez. Hopefully we can sign a Cole or a Wheeler along with a Pineda or a Hamels and feel at ease about the rotation.
  10. Cooper seems to allude to a forthcoming extension for Betts. Might make things pretty interesting if we had him around here for 5 seasons.
  11. Sounds about right to me. Javier and Cellestino or maybe Alcala. We have a strong farm. But we also have a team that is close to WS competitive. We have a young team. I'd just like to see us not waste the strength of the farm by allowing them to be mired in the minors. Now is the time to utilize to add some of the pieces on the ML level that we need. I see what you are describing in Alcantrara and if you get him w/o giving up major pieces then why not? If not him then who?
  12. I'm for trading for Giles. Care to drop any names on who the players we trade are? I'm not for the Ray trade. Too little return for Larnach. I'd rather see us pursue Matthew Boyd from Detroit for a lesser price. I think Boyd would give a great return on a better team.
  13. Yes to this. A deal somewhere along the lines of Javier and Cellestino. I get that we don't want to give up the Kiriloff's and Larnach's for a Alcantara. But just once it'd be nice to get back a talented potential like this instead of just ending up releasing our prospects after they fizzle. Think Gonsalves. Alcantara has the physical talent to be really good. Whether he has the mental makeup is the question.
  14. No, Alcantrata is genuine. Young and talented. The FO needs to wisely move some of our prospects. There isn't room at the ML level for all of them.
  15. I like this on all counts. I'm all in on signing Cole. Wheeler would make a great #3 behind Cole and Berrios. With the now reupped for 2020 Odorizzi we would have what might be the best rotation in baseball. But if we did want to shell out less money either a trade for Jon Gray or consider a Pineda reigning for 2/23 would work too. But imo its all about Cole. I'm neither here nor there on bringing Cron back. Maybe see if he'd sign for last seasons salary again? What I would add to your plan is to use a couple of our prospects to trade for some bullpen help. Ken Giles of Toronto comes quickly to my mind.
  16. I contend that Wheeler is not better than Berrios. Cole, or Strasburg easily is. One of these is who we should be aiming for, and we have the money to out bid anyone.
  17. and if the big signing is Odorizzi, who I'm not against signing, and say Travis Wood as a bounceback signing then the off season is a huge fail. Sign Cole and use some prospects to get a premium bullpen guy or two. We can afford the best. Especially when he's still only 29 y/o. Start out a 8/275 mil with a buyout after year 2.
  18. Screw financial flexibility. Now is the time to sign Cole.
  19. If it was truly about our window being open we would push every bit of resource towards Gerrit Cole. You resign Odorizzi and Pineda for about 25mil. With Cole leading our rotation and Berrios following we'd be in great shape. Our lineup is fine, just need another C. But we won't go all in on Cole and we'll be told about all of the other factors of why Cole wouldn't come here. No, show him the money. With the present lineup and the farm we have their is no reason we can't lure the best. Except for $$$$$
  20. Agree. Many are predicting/dreaming of the Twins making many major moves this off season. I don't see it happening. I look for the resigning of Odorizzi and Pineda and a backup catcher and a couple of internal options filling out the rotation. These will cost close to 30mil anyway. Sorry, the idea of the Twins investing 70-80 mil in trades and FA's doesn't line up with our history. It isn't happening.
  21. Odorizzi was also acquired by trade and Wheeler was traded early on in his career.
  22. Of all the FA's my own preference would be Ryu. He should demand less dollars and a shorter term and you will not forfeit the draft pick. Resign Pineda for a 2 year deal for 22-24. Trade some of our lesser than Lewis/Kiriloff prospects for John Grey and let Graterol, Thorpe, etc fight it out for the 5th spot. A rotation of Berrios, Ryu, Grey, Pineda, with the internal choice looks like a AL competitive rotation to me.
  23. I don't believe we sign any of the Top 5 available SP's. I see us resigning Odorizzi and Pineda. We will likely move on from Gibson. They do need to cash in on some of the excess prospects they have at some point. So look for a trade of someone along the lines of Gray, Archer or Boyd.
  24. Honestly that 9th inning double by Buxton was a gift. He should be 1 for 6, and looks a lot like Buxton.
  25. This article must be a lot of Bull, that was my first reaction to the title. Twins not a good showing in this first contest against Baltimore.
