  1. The problem with this way of looking at things is the reality that many of these players are underpaid* prior to free agency. There was always an unwritten understanding that while the players would not make full value prior to FA, they would be able to make up for it on the backend of their career. Teams are now wising up to the approach, and not securing the long term contracts like before. If you are a player, wouldn't you be upset with the system? The problem is that even fixing the issue for the younger players (faster to arbitration, faster to FA) does nothing for the current veterans. *Underpaid is relative -- I understand they all make more than most of us could dream of.
  2. I love the idea of the three batter minimum! This seems like the only proposal that will have a meaningful impact on the pace of play! It is pretty much a given that the 7-9th innings will have multiple extra commercial breaks. Also, my understanding is that the end of an inning will fulfill any requirements, so you can still use the loogy to get out of a jam...he just better succeed. I think the strategy stays in the game, it just changes. Also, are there still may players that still adjust their gloves between pitches, or is this still battle scars from Nomar? It seems like he is still the poster child for slow play, but hasn't actually been part of the game for nearly a decade.
  3. Ha - so you're saying to Twins will continue to not sign any free agents worth a crap? Money will always win out, and we know that the Twins tend to not be playing with the high spenders. The Cubs recently played this game with Kris Bryant, and it didn't seem to have much of a long term impact
  4. He is likely only going to end up missing the Tampa series, I don't understand why people are up in arms on this one.
  5. Apparently games played outside the US allows an extra position player. Doing it this way allows them to add an extra pitchers the 25th person, and then Ryan as the 26th. He is lot exempt from the 10 day rule after the get back to the US, so will miss the TB series
  6. It was done today to start Ryan's clock to come back. They can bring 26 guys to Puerto Rico, so by moving him today, he'll only miss the Tampa series
  7. If you are going to make it around here, you are doing to start disagreeing with everyone stat!
  8. Agree - the first paragraph was pretty weak, but the results were fantastic the rest of the way
  9. Thank you! The whole point of the #metoo campaign is that it is changing the power dynamics in the world when it comes to treatment of women. These are going public because that is causing change. Look at how many people have turned a blind eye on the issue for decades, and it is finally stopping. Work environments, especially those with a strong power dynamic (sports, Hollywood, Politics) need to change. There is so much money involved that people and organizations will make excuses or ignore the problem. That is finally stopping, and that is a good thing.
  10. This is asinine. It isn't his story to tell. You have no clue what she said to others nor what their response to her was. I'm shocked TD is letting this crap fest go on right now
  11. I don't believe the Twins ever announced it at all. It came up when International $ amounts available were being discussed because of Ohtani. As far as I'm aware, we don't even know the actual date his contract was voided.
  12. Pretty sure it would take a Santana injury. berrios hasn't exactly been greqt the second half nor on the road
  13. One bad game for Joe? He had a pretty good day yesterday, I think it's time to ride with your best from here on out
  14. I agree what he is doing shouldn't be a distraction, hell it should be applauded. The reality is it will be a distraction. Cameras from all sorts of news groups would be following everything about the team. Every player on the team would be asked questions about one individual.
  15. This is about value. His on the field the field performance doesn't justify the distraction (right or wrong) that he bring to an organization.
  16. As I understand it, the delay wouldn't help this scenario. This was them cracking what sign was the real one and relaying it to the base runners. Base runners were then responsible to reading that sign and signaling to the batter. The extra seconds wouldn't help unless the catcher mixed up the order of his real sign for each batter.
  17. The rumor I heard is he is joining the Athletic. I haven't heard if it is going to be him leading a MN chapter though.
  18. Maybe they are getting salary relief on Hughes with him out for the season. That could lead to them having a way to convince ownership that it is worth a salary dump trade by the braves as they can take it on
  19. Not trying to defend Molitor, but who on the bench would you want hitting against a pitcher that has dominated left handed hitting this year?
  20. Serious question - does this happen in baseball?
  21. I think the Twins may have something to do with the quality of the game thread. Welcome back to Twins baseball
  22. Maybe we can have a Bert-like 10 year HoF petition during every game.
  23. Over / Under 20 runs given up today?
