Well Mike I think the bottom is in for UNH. Short interest up to 15 million shares, now Buffett came out with large purchase.

6-7 Poor situational baseball. Had opportunities to win.

Wow . . . there is nothing to suggest that relocation is even a consideration in 12-13 years, let alone the possibilities of such. We need to see what the new CBA is. We need to see if minimums and caps are going to be instituted similar to the NBA. We have no idea who or what ownership will be in 2037. Most likely, Target field will still be a top 15 stadium. It is also undetermined as to the success of the teams moving forward and whether the quality of players can rejuvenate the Twins similar to 2001. You also have other teams like Tampa Bay Rays that their long term status needs to be resolved in the near future. Heck the Marlins are in a worse situation than the Twins. There are so many what ifs, so little foresight into such a long horizon to even postulate the question as an article other than continuing to trying to capitalize on negative fan sentiment. When will we start getting more positive articles on Twinsdaily? Been a rough 2 weeks.

The other is Cjinte and Ford would have been a massive overpay that I doubt the Mariners would have done. Even if the Mariners felt their offer was the superior one whatever combination of prospects it was, for the Twins needs and what they feel they can do with Abel and Tait, their value and upside could actually be higher for the Twins. Without knowing the prospects being offered we truly don't know if it was a better offer. More just hypotheticals.

Its pretty clear they plan to work on the sweeper with both Abel and Bradley. If Abel has incremental improvements on control similar to this year, with a good sweeper/slider, and tweaking a few pitches, he could develop into a very good pitcher. It won't be replica but it may the results may be simi Lets be clear though, Abel has always been viewed as a better prospect throughout their minor careers. Ryan needed to increase his velocity to maximize the fastball potency. 8-10 starts in the minors/majors for 2025 is meaningless other than trying to give fans hope. Letting them have the remainder of the summer/fall, and the offseason to really tweak their arsenal seems like the best bet. I don't see how you don't go into 2026 without planning to have both Abel and Bradley in the starting lineup. This is where I run into an issue unless we have injuries. Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Matthews, Abel, Bradley (thats 6) - backend starter SWR, Festa, Adams, Ohl, Klein. Then in AAA have Raya, Lewis, Morris, Rojas. The roster management this offseason is going to be very interesting. I could see some buying and selling of trades occurring or moving several arms to the bullpen.

Lets be clear, Ownership doesn't care. Falvey is just trying to do his job. Now if you think he can do a better job even with the restrictions that have been on him, that is valid. I could see why the Pohlads who received a much higher valuation would have been interested. However my guess is MLB does not take on the debt now, so really how much more valuation occurred. So lets say its a 2 million valuation. 10% minority stake would be 200 million, 20% would be 400 million. Maybe clear off the debt with a 20% or more ownership sale. The root issue is still here though. What is going to change the Twins financial structure in the future? The cable payments were a major portion that effectively got wiped out. I have purchased the streaming version of the Twins and have had multiple issues broadcasting to my primary TV. The product otherwise is ok. The commercials are extremely repetitive. If Twins put out a competitive team for next year with some young players who look like stars I think they can continue to sell hope, but you are going to lose some fans frustrated by the ownership and front office moves. Maybe things drastically improve with the new CBA. I am just not going to get my hopes up.

Twins 4, Yankees 1: Snarling and Hurling
bunsen82 replied to Matthew Trueblood's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Lopez will likely not be moved. You can't be running a 40 million dollar team. As to Ryan I am conflicted. Most likely the Twins will be competitive in the 2027 to 2028 time period. If you truly want to build up the prospects and hope luck, and your research is on your side and that you create a truly dominant young team, that will give you a 3 year window from 2028 to 2030 you could. The haul would be quite large. Duran was worth 25 in the trade calculator, Ryan is worth 68. Now some of the value is getting used in July and August. My argument would be if he ends the season strong, I could actually see the haul being larger than at the trade deadline. It would either have to be headlined by a top 5 prospect, or 4-5 pretty good prospects. Twins generally try to put out competitive teams though, so maybe we do keep Ryan and try to rebuild the bullpen. I have no idea what Falvey or the Pohlads are thinking, or if the the capital injection will actually help the long term finances of the Twins.- 56 replies

6-6 we beat the Yankees. Ryan, Clemens Topa enough said.

5-6 Im going to bed early. You lose when you can’t hit, put 2 players who are not mlb caliber and the bullpen options are starting to get crushed.
-
2 for 4 with a Homer. From what I’ve gleaned he looks pretty good behind the plate. So far there is nothing indicating the Twins intend to move him off the plate. Hell we put Gasper behind the dish tonight and he doesn’t know how to backhand a ball. for further follow-up, his blocking has improved a lot this year, pitch framing will not be as a big of a deal, but he has also improved on that front this year as well. His pop and arm are pretty close to mlb ready.

Tait as our #2 prospect on MLB should not be considered a lotto ticket. If you want to call Jimenez a lotto ticket, fine. We got him for Paddack though, so not immense value going away. To me he looks like an extremely solid defensive catcher, who all in all is doing ok at A ball. The OBP is great is SSS (.467), would just like to see more power.

They took the deal. Meaning in their minds this was the better value. The only other team that was mentioned towards the end was the Mariners. Its a crapshoot because we have had players like Ryan and Duran pan out while others like Martin, Gomez ect really didn't pan out for what we were expecting. You never know when a player is going to get injured or just not perform like you expect. I thought Lewis would be a multi year all star. At this point I am not sure he will be in the plans in a year or two. Right now it appears you are still salty about the deadline.
-
The only player that was a one dart player was Painter and his value is twice that of Duran. In this article they said they like Tait better than Miller- there was no trade with the Phillies that could have been a 1 for 1 and it appears Philly was offering more than anyone else. We did go the 1 for 1 trade in Jax for Bradley, and not many here are impressed with it. I honestly think of all the trades that one is the most likely to have surplus value. I think Jax is struggling and we took a pitcher who has more years available and is still a starter. Its all a crap shoot though. Who knows when you find a Duran in deal for a utility player. Or that we had a #1 type pitcher in Ryan when we traded Cruz. Sometimes things work out, sometimes they don't.

So the Twins have loads of pitchers, some with variable quality. Festa, Ohl and Adams seem like locks for the 2026 bullpen. We have a injured pitches who have could follow the career of someone like Stewart, in Canterino. Henriquez still intrigues me as well. After that it gets iffy quick. I am not sure I see a path for the knuckleballer Lewis. he may be one to trade to someone who wants to work more on the Knuckleball. The fastball is now in the 90-92 range, so his ability to stick as pitcher seems tough. Raya has had a tough year, are we willing to get the starting position up and throw him in the pen? Morris and Culpepper have both looked really good here recently. I think you keep them on the starter track but they do have the possibility of switching to reliever. I mentioned it in another thread that our pitch depth especially of those who need a 40 man spot is almost getting too deep. I am sure some of the fringe will fall out of the system. We either need to trade a Starter (Ryan), move the players to the bullpen or trade a few. I currently only see 3-4 players I think should remain in the pen for next year, and thats Sands, Topa and Tonkin. Hatch may be working himself into a position. Kriske, its early, but as of right now probably is just a fringe reliever. Inevitably we will sign probably 2-3 relievers in the offseason. I will be very curious as to what quality. In general they do not pay up for relievers.

5-5 Twins won a crazy game yesterday, beat by there nemesis today. Buxton is back.

Right now I think the plan was to give it to Rodan if they traded Larnach. So far that hasn't played out. Martin still has the possibility to be the 4th outfielder. Jenkins has no likelihood of starting on the team next year in my opinion. You have Gonzalez and Rodriguez who they would try out ahead of that. Fedko and Mccusker only get an opportunity if major underperformance or injury.

No offense this is the year that the Twins did exactly what you asked for Quality over Quantity. Bradley for Jax straight up. 2 top 100 prospects for Duran. 2 quality prospects for Varland even if post hype. Heck Bader for Mendez, with just a Villoria flyer, is pretty close to a 1 to 1. Other than De Vries, we got the #2, #3, and #6 best prospects traded at the deadline - and that doesn't take into consideration Roden or Bradley. Honestly I wouldn't want all are value tied into De Vries. I think he has a ton of risk, and hasn't shown the numbers that tell me he is a top 5 prospect, that will be a multi year all star and possible hall of famer value.

I think the values especially for the minor league teams is very subjective and they are not updated frequently. So you end up with a situation of Marek Houston, Kaelen Culpepper, Alen Roden, Brandon Winokur all being valued fairly similarly between 8 and 15 points. Gabriel Gonzalez is valued at 3.8. Then you have Taj Bradley at 31.9. It is all extremely subjective. Of those players on how I expect them to bring value to the twins this is my rankings. Culpepper, Winokur, Gonzalez (severely underrated), Abel, Bradley, Houston Roden. I would leave Roden where he is and I would likely have Culpepper at a value of around 20 then gradually step down to the rest of the prospects. It is extremely subjective and changes drastically with year to year performance. Last year Gonzalez struggled, this year he looks like he could be a legit MLB star. The variability is extreme with these prospects.

I feel like people have just gone to a website like the mlb trade calculator and said why did the A's seem to get so much value for Miller and Sears. As mentioned Miller had 2 more years of control. Its like if Varland had been an elite closer and we traded him now. The second is you are getting multiple years of a controllable solid pitcher in Sears. Almost all the value is tied to De Vries. How players are ranked or valued is subjective. I would say a bit of the shine has come off De Vries and he is not the player that is worth a 50 value in the trade calculator. Just for an apples to apples comparison, since the trade De Vries has a .200/.286/.286 slash line in 3 game. Tait, who many are concerned with the risk we are taking with Tait who is also at A+ ball, has .242/.265/.364 slash lines. Both are very good prospects, and extremely young for their levels. So would we rather have given up a lot more value, likely 2 different players to San Diego with all the value tied to Devries. Or are we better off with the trades of Duran and Varland (pretty similar value to Miller and Sears) - that netted us mlb player Rodan, AAA Pitcher Abel, AAA Pitcher Rojas, and A+ player Tait. We still have a high risk young prospect in Tait that is a very similar prospect to De Vries. That is a much better trade haul in retrospect than just De Vries and the risk is much more spread out. So in reality I feel like we got the value for Duran. Its just the Miller trade is not an apples to apples comparison.

The Twins stepped up twice and offered the highest salaries they have ever offered in 2 separate contracts to Correa. On the first contract, Correa performed very well. On his most recent contract he has underperformed drastically, a team doesn't pay another team $35 million to take on a player with no other compensation. He has performed at half the level of his contract so far and he was barely a positive war for the Twins in 2025 (0.1). I am glad Correa has had a good week at Houston. I think Correa is an excellent supplementary piece, he is not a leader for a small market team. That is ok. I will also say the Twins did not do Correa any favors by underestimating what their future revenues would be and "right sizing the payroll." In either case both the Twins and Correa are in better situations. The other caveat is that most likely the new owners wanted Correa off the books. The trade was done by Jim Pohlad. This smacks of an ownership request and capitalizing on an injury for the Astros. Even still, we are saving 70 million plus over the next 3 years plus whatever extra years Correa would achieve. So in summary we don't need the vitriol on the internet. We also don't need multiple articles stating how much of a travesty it was that the Twins traded Correa. In the end it was a business decision, and I wouldn't base the fan reaction on a handful of over the top fans burning his jersey. I think Twinsdaily is a pretty accurate gauge for most fans, there hasn't been much vitriol towards Correa it almost unanimously has been towards Falvey and the Pohlads. Ultimately if it helps us get new owners that are more willing to support this team, I am all for it.

Winokur has a ton of variability. In my opinion Winokur has a ton more value if he can maintain at shortstop, or if he can be a utility player rather than just regulated to the outfield. His numbers and power profile will be much more valuable at the shortstop position. If someone believes he can be a shortstop they may well overpay for someone like Winokur. Yes you will lose on the trade if he becomes an elite player. But if you could get a value of someone like Duran for Winokur for 2 or 2 1/2 years, I think you would do that everyday of the week. The flip side of the coin is the Twins need multiple elite players to be able to win the World Series. So if Winokur increases the odds we have multiple elite players for a stretch of 4-5 years with Culpepper, Jenkins, Keashall, Rodriguez, Gonzalez , still a slim possibility on Lee and any other drafted prospects, we may be better off to keep him. I have been touting Winokur since we drafted him, so ultimately I really do hope he becomes a great Twin, but as well as he has done so far, with extreme variability on performance, I could see it as being timely to cash in on those chips.
