With that swing I expect more power to begin to show up. He definitely has more power than Arraez, He could be the perfect blend of contact and power the Twins could utilize.

Lets not undersell Winokur. He has had 2 months of being the best positional player at Cedar Rapids. His April and May numbers are really bringing down his averages. July .286/360/841 August .343/.395/.852 I personally think Winokur does not do as well in the cold weather, and takes a while to find his swing (let alone at higher levels of competition). Overall other than 1 blowout month in June last year, I honestly like the numbers this year better at Cedar Rapids. Continued improvement from month to month. He has had 45 days of really strong performance. I do think he wore out a bit last year with the longer season. So far he has not shown any signs of wearing down. He is such a unicorn prospect. The Twins would know better what their expectations are moving forward. With his upside I am sure he would be an excellent trade chip with his minor league numbers to end the season. If he can replicate this at AA next year though, he will look like a legitimate MLB player. Gabby is beginning to settle in at a higher level. I expect an adjustment period from the performance he was having at AA. In either case he is doing very well. He appears to be exactly the type of player we need at the MLB level. OBP, contact hitter who can keep the runners moving around the basepaths. Abel is really close. You just need a little more consistency. This is the reason why you don't rush development and shove them up to MLB. Say what you will, the Twins are much more conservative that other teams in progressing prospects. In this case its warranted and smart. He also makes the pitches when he needs to. You don't throw 98 pitches with 47 strikes and only giving up 1 run without getting the strike out or out to get out of the inning. They can't hit him, so the only thing he needs to work on is limiting the walks.

Week in Review: Expectations Gone, Energy Unlocked
bunsen82 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All but predictable, we have another article that is lamenting the trade of Correa that was a replacement player for the Twins in 2025. Look I wish they had kept to let him rebound some more and then to trade him to either pay less or get a better prospect, even still Correa has had 1 good week in Houston, and honestly it doesn't matter. The Twins traded 10 players from their team . . . and guess what, they are still winning. This team needed a reset. That was clear, we also needed more speed and athleticism. The Martin experiment . . . is not dull. The contact skills look solid . . . base running and outfielding are definitely rough. You can tell he is trying to find himself, and I think emotionally is feeling out of his depth, the thing is really he is not that far off from being a perfect 4th outfielder. Solid contact hitter for a pinch hitter, good speed for a pinch runner, and should be better defense than some of the corner outfielders. Roden at times looks like can make pretty good contact. I thought he was coming around then proceeded to have 2 tough games. Clemens continues to tighten his grip on 1st base for the future. I laughed when the royals intentional walked him yesterday because they know he can bunt lol. I think it looks like Vasquez season is done. Surgery plus the rehab is likely at 6 weeks minimum. I would rather have taken a look at Pereda yesterday than Gasper. I really do not see anything that shows me that Gasper is a MLB player. Its funny to me that we state Larnach is not a good hitter, yet he was one of the 4-5 players that carried us last week. Brooks Lee's defense has been really good at short. The offense since the trade deadline has been hit and miss. He has improved over last year but we need to see continued improvement. Keaschall has been a stud. So far we have found 2 additional pieces to add to our core in Clemens and Keaschall. The jury is still out on the remainder of the position players. As to the bullpen, they have performed admirably well. Really the performance isn't much worse than if we would have kept everyone. All in all, I understand the frustration with the trade deadline, but we have a better winning % post deadline (small sample size) than the rest of the season. I also found these games to be much more enjoyable for whatever reason. There was an article that said the Pohlads are selling hope. Yes I am drinking the Kool-aid of hope on the Twins moving forward and that there will be a new ownership group for 2026.- 67 replies

Royals (Bergert) vs Twins (Urena): 8/10/25, 12:05pm

They likely have something they want them to work on. Might as well do that work at AAA while they can continue to keep their confidence up. Honestly these next 6 weeks are meaningless for the games development is the key. -

Honestly, I think I somewhat understand what they are doing. If winning isn’t your prerogative but finding prices or value for the future it makes more sense. As to Abel and Bradley I think they want to give them an adjustment period. -

My guess is they will be up in September. -

Urena is up to 8+ years of service time. Needs just under 2 more years for the full pension. Unless he can convert to reliever I am not sure he is going to make it. -

The only thing I can see is they aren’t quite comfortable with Pereda and want to work with him a bit before they throw him back in. He is the emergency catcher until they get him up to speed. I also think Gasper is running out of chances. He better flash soon. -
They have given Gasper a pretty good run. I know his stats are better at AAA but I’m just not seeing it. Roden is putting good contact on the ball the last 3 or so games. I think he is going to start hitting here to end the season. As frustrated as I have been with Martin’s defense, the bat looks legit. Opposite field, pull or straight center he is hitting all over. He is extremely aggressive on the basepaths. I think you continue to work on his reads and defense. As a 4th outfielder, base runner or even pinch hitter, he looks like he could fill that role really well.

If Lewis doesn’t start going opposite field, pitchers are going to continue to pound him outside. Outside of Lewis and maybe super Mario, that was a pretty solid game all around. For a bullpen that I thought would implode, we haven’t seen that yet. For as good as Duran is doing in Philly, Jax start isn’t going so well for the Rays. Gave up a 3 run HR to the dump truck the other night to lose the game. I don’t think Jax has been right all year. We may have sold high on him when he requested that trade.

Smith looks dominant at A ball. Maybe give him a couple more games at this level but he looks ready to go to Cedar Rapids. Other than his rookie year at Sac State he never hit above .300 so I still think this is a bit of a hot streak, even still we knew he had power, if the hit tool is better than expected you have a legitimate prospect. For a year where we drafted minimal bats, if he does pan out it helps balance out the draft a bit more, even though I still think the arms we got this year is the best collection of arms this century. They will definitely give the 2022 drafted pitchers a good fight to see which was better. Dman the Twins may be proving you wrong on the last 7 picks having minimal potential. Gallagher, that’s a very nice start. The kid can pitch will it be good enough as he continues. Culpepper cooling off a bit but Jenkins continuing his hot streak. I would guess Jenkins will go up a few spots again on the next rankings.

It’s a singular day. Twins lost 2-0.. 4-4 record. Had Lewis been even competent today the Twins likely win. There is a lot of things to like. Lewis continuing to try to pull everything exemplifies the problems associated with the 2025 Twins.

The contract timing was not good. Other than the playoff series, I never viewed Correa as a leader. We no longer have Correa, Buxton still recovering and no bullpen and we have won 4 of 7 games. Other then small sample sizes what changed, still the same manager. personally to me the pieces didn’t quite fit for whatever reason. I’m not saying this version will be better, but what the Twins were doing wasn’t working.

Other than Mendez who I really really like, the only trades that really matter in magnitude is Jax, Duran, and Varland. Jax for Bradley I had waffled back and forth but I am solely in the camp of being a very good trade. I’m starting to think Jax did us a favor by asking to be traded. The Varland trade was probably a pretty big overpay. Roden looks like he might be able to man one of the corner outfield spots. As of now Rojas is still a bit of a project. Duran was a fair trade. Both Tait and Abel look pretty good in a handful of games. We are watching better baseball and got some pretty good prospects. There is no point to really grade these trades. Ultimately it’s whether they can help the big league team. Roden has strung together 2 solid game.

That Pereda pickup could be a godsend and helping us get through the remainder of the season. Plus can give him enough run at the MLB level to see if he can get comfortable. His numbers in the minors aren’t bad. JP Smith hasn’t been discussed much. It’s A ball but he has done very very well. He is one of the few true 1st base type prospects in the minor leagues. It could allow him to move up pretty quickly if he continues to perform. Winokur continues to battle at A+ ball. His 2nd half has been pretty good. I still don’t see SS as his long term position. However taking all these shortstops allows us to either move them to other positions or use as a trade chip. We starting to get a bit of a glut. Winokur is likely one a decision will need to be made. If he ends the season strong a position change or trade may be necessary. The pitching in the minors has been rough since the trade deadline. I hope Fedko can keep this up. I always love rooting for the players that outperform their expectations.

Royals (Lugo) vs Twins (Ryan): 8/8/25, 7:10pm
bunsen82 replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
Lee and Roden both looking better. Clemens with another strong night. Keaschall not realizing he is a rookie. Wallner and Jeffers continue to lead this team since the deadline. Lots of positive progress occurring on this team. Ryan looks to be on a mission to end this season strong. -
4-3 Ryan mowed em down. The hitters hit it well, and the bullpen was solid enough. Still some improvement needed with Adam’s and Kristen but there is definitely some talent to work with.

The lineup seems so much more potent. Stringing hits and on base together and scoring runs. Some poor base running as well. -
Lee looks like he is going to push his BA into the .250. The biggest difference even in the last month is being more patient. He is getting a couple more walks. Today battled back from 0-2 count and got a hit. .270/.325/.400+ is a pretty valuable short stop. He is showing power. Really it’s just continuing to be more patient and getting more walks which should really improve his offensive profile.

We want Lee to get more comfortable with the bat. The defense looks solid to above average at short by my eye. So if the bat improves he will be viewed as a legit shortstop and that has immense value. Whether as a trade chip or becoming our utility player. He still seems to be thinking too much at the plate is my opinion.

2 other notes. Tait showed the power. I would still like to see a few more hits but this is still pretty impressive for his age. 2. Mendez is on a tear. Funny note his BA is higher than his OBP LOL. A lot of things are trending very very well on the prospect side.

That is a nice outing by Bradley. The fastball has enough velocity. There were some out there saying his stuff isn’t as good this year. I would be curious how it rated this start. I definitely think you have a very good pitcher to work with. As long as Bradley is receptive to continuing to learn he still has the ability to be a front line starter. Fingers crossed 🤞.

The only reason you keep Winokur at shortstop is someone thinks they can keep him as a shortstop and you get immensely more value for him than an outfield in a trade. I think we will start to see a few more trades in the offseason, using our prospect capital. Winokur would be one I would be willing to trade. He is a large athletic man with some power, but a lot of swing and miss. He could make it all work but I think we have more than enough options. My guess is he has a lot more value than when we drafted him, wonder what he would bring back in return.
