  1. Go ahead and take your list of minor leaguers there, put the names into a hat and pull out 4 names. That is how many will stick, now put those 4 into a hat and pull out 1 more name. That is how many will be better than league average. Don't let the Twins love of anyone with a pulse in the minor leagues cloud you judgement. They haven't developed any real successful players for YEARS.
  2. I'd say just put Sano at DH and be done with it. Have him work on his hitting and nothing else. He is not here to field ground balls, he is here to hit them over the fence. Less chance for injury, focus on one thing, etc. His best stretch of baseball in his short major league career is when he was DHing anyway.
  3. I just don't trade the guy when you have a bunch of outfielders, that besides Rosario, look like 4th or 5th outfielder types. Don't put any stock into garbage baseball that Cave is cashing in on. Just watch Kepler take at bats. You should be able to see it with your eyes. He has a plan at the plate and gives you a good at bat every time up. You don't trade that and give the job away to a someone who is at best a 4th outfielder. He costs us very little and would receive very little back for him in a trade. Keep him. It makes zero sense not too. You want to trade an outfielder for some real talent, trade the kid in the minors. He would at least net you something decent. Not that I want to do that, but if you wanting to make a move that does something, that is the one. He would get you back some real talent. Kepler gets you another #5 starter prospect. Yippee
  4. Doesn't matter. PTBNL is all he is worth. Keep or demote to minor leagues is all you have for options with him. You guys want to trade people, you have to bring something of value if you want anything worthwhile back. Otherwise, it is just a exercise in futility.
  5. Keep. What are you going to get for him? More lottery tickets? A bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush. Crap return I'd rather keep him. Unless you can use him to get major league talent that is controllable. I don't want to move him for minor league turds.
  6. You can't do a full teardown, there is nothing left to tear down. You have to go into next season with the expectation that Sano and Buxton will lead this team. There is really no other way to go about it. If they don't, then figure another 4-5 years to be relevant again. I'd do whatever it takes to get one of the Mets stud starters. I'd trade any prospect they have other than the SS and the lefthanded outfielder. Twins have a history of ruining kids anyway, what good are they to us? Get a real #1 in here, sign Cruz and pickup the 2 best relievers in free agency. Bam - division title.
  7. I'd try to go after Nelson Cruz on a 1 or 2 year deal. He's a bopper, Twins had a chance on him a few years back and didn't get him when they should've. Bring him in and let him DH. Find someone to play either one of the infield spots besides 1B. If you can find someone to play 3B, move Sano to 1. If you find a SS, move Polanco to 2B and if you find a 2B, leave everyone where they are at. Bullpen. Have to find at least 2 very solid guys of this will be a huge problem for them next year. We have money, spend it on the 2 best guys available.
  8. It's a no brainer for me to keep this guy around for next season. He plays harder than anyone on the team. Let's also be honest here, neither of the other 2 guys are any better than average or below average and one or both of them is hurt. Great in the clubhouse, plays his heart out, guys love him. I'd give him a spot.
  9. One is a fairly quick, athletic middle infielder. The other is a terrible slow and unathletic DH. I'm not against Vargas, but you expect more bat out of guys that can't do anything else.
  10. While you might be right, pushing the "contention" date back sucks and we've heard it for long enough. It's been since 2010 since this team has been any good. It shouldn't take 10 years to bring a team back into the fray every time.
  11. Any of the Mets top 3 starting pitchers.
  12. Twins completely dropped the ball with Hicks. First they didn't trade him when he was in the minor leagues and teams were asking for him as part of packages to get real talent in here like Cliff Lee. Then, we he finally starts doing something good for our club, we trade him away for a terrible player in Murphy. Buxton may or may not pan out. But at this point, you stick it out with him almost no matter what. The time has passed for trading him.
  13. Should be worth a good ballplayer on a rental, or a controllable reliever with really good stuff right? Or do we only give away players like that for those types of returns? He's a top 10 prospect in our system, which is supposed to be highly thought of. Or at least that is what I have been told?
  14. The thing is though, that's the deal. The organization and people around places like this, just salivate over a guy like Gonsalves and will hold him near their vest no matter what. These are the types of guys that should be traded when their "prospect" status is at their peak. What the Twins have always done is bring these guys up, they fail, then they demote and they aren't worth a thing anymore. Basically, they need to be better judges of talent and when you have a pretty good idea a guy will not be a piece for you going forward, move them when they are still looked at as highly valuable prospects.
  15. I'd trade him for whatever you can get for him here this week. Look to sign or trade for a 2B or SS that has some real talent. Yes, this will cost either money or prospects. I don't want to bring back a fringe guy like Forsythe. He'd be fine as a bench piece on a 1-year deal to backup some of the infield, but that's it for me. Set your sights higher. I don't have a lot of faith in Gordon, so if you want to go and trade for someone younger, go ahead and do so. Then use Gordon as trade bait when needed.
  16. Then trade at deadline. You know what kind of return you would get in the winter without him proving anything, it won't be much better if at all than a deadline trade. Either one would net very little. He's worth more to the Twins than a maybe guy in A ball.
  17. Both guess too much right now. Hopefully it improves. It's like some people don't even watch the games and just look at numbers. Sometimes seeing is believing. He basically just has to lay off any over the outside part of the plate for now. Teams aren't dumb and will continue to fool these guys until they wise up. Don't throw them many strikes and soft stuff away is all it takes. Sano has been a little better since he got back though, I will say that. I have said the same thing about Delmon Young when he first got here. The guy played a couple games and it was obvious he would never be the great player they thought he would be. He swung at everything and was lost in the field.
  18. Because he can't hit and is injury prone. He might like the security. One decent deal and he's set for life.
  19. Pretty sure the reason they took back Forsythe is because LA made them. The market for Dozier obviously wasn't very hot.
  20. I'll be honest, I'm not excited about a single player brought back at the deadline. A bunch of C level prospects and residual type guys. I get it, who we traded really wasn't worth a heck of a lot and that is the main part of it. I was hoping for at least one guy from all these trades though with some major upside. As it stands, there isn't a guy brought over that will make our top 20 prospect list, is there??? Not mad by any means though. All of the guys dealt had expiring deal, other than Pressly. My hope is that some of these guys they picked up will be used in a year or so to package up and bring some real talent in here...
  21. Why not on Santana? He's not signing a dinky deal if you let him go. He will get 2-3 years from someone most likely. I'd bring him back at 14 for one year, if he stink? Oh well, it is a one year deal and you are done. If you think the team has no shot at competing next year, then I agree with you. Otherwise, having a veteran starter who has seen it all around for a full season at the price is a good thing IMO.
  22. We got back what he was worth I guess. - Nothing really! LOL
  23. Honestly, at this point in the season, it would have been a major mistake to deal for rental pieces and go for it. This isn't a great team this year and even by adding the best of the best rental players, you can maybe expect 1 or 2 more wins than you would have got with the players you had. Let's see if they can get anything for the expiring contracts left on the roster. I will be awfully disappointed now if they don't stay the course and dump 2-4 more of those guys and bring back at least something. Maybe even a player or two in some positions of need.
  24. This is a good post and I'd aim even higher. I'd want a guy in that top 30 or so range. There needs to be a stud coming back if you trade Gibson. Even if you get less in the amount of players back, getting someone you can be pretty sure will make an impact would be a must for me if I was making that kind of trade.
  25. Don't hate the fact that they moved him if they weren't gonna try to keep him for next year. The return isn't as good as I would have hoped, but I guess that is what a rental type player of his caliber goes for. The people that say he will sign back here or that the Twins will even attempt it though are probably fooling themselves. This rarely, if ever happens.
