    We've been down the try to "manufacture a run" and "pitch to contact" roads before.... they produced ZERO championships.

    Giving catchers the credit for winning games based on pitch calling is pure BS. A lot of pitches are called from the bullpen and relayed to the catcher and a lot of pitches are shaken off by the pitcher. Most pitchers know what they want to throw and when. The majority of the time the signs from the catcher are just to get both he and the pitcher on the same page so the catcher knows what is coming.

    I'll once again repeat... This team was built to compete, not win. There is a difference. They will beat the poorer teams in the league, compete against the average teams in the league and lose against the best teams in the league. They have 1 good arm in the bullpen to rely on. Rogers. After that it's a crap shoot. And the crap has already hit the fan.

    Agree 100%. Attendance dropping from 3.2M to 1.9M should give any common sense owner that whatever it is you are doing.. it is wrong! From the price of admission to $10 beers, $6 hotdogs and a losing team why would anyone RUSH to Target Field? Oh the new monthly pricing is great for the local fans in the Twin cities but for those of us that live too far away to come to that many games how does that help us? It doesn't! Guess he doesn't realize that some of his fan base is outside the city limits. With the high cost of admission and concessions the average Joe's like myself won't be coming to any games to watch a team of losers. We want our moneys worth if we make the trip, so prove you have a team on the field that can win and not just compete, yes there is a difference. Then the fans will start coming back.

    Poor attendance was due to: 1.It was cold. 2.They were playing a team that has no aspirations of competing this year and aren't very good so the fans figured it would be an easy 4 game sweep. 3.The front office has no committment to winning, only competing, yes there's a difference. 4.Tyler Duffey joined the team instead of Craig Kimbrel. 5.Twins fans already know this team is going no where. 6.All of the above!

    Wasn't a fan of the Marwin signing and still aren't. Would rather see Astudillo getting those reps at 3B, Austin getting them at 1B and Cave getting them in the OF. The Marwin signing hurt this team more than it helped it. Now Baldelli feels the need to use him and the youngsters that we already had to cover those spots get pushed back, or even worse in Austin's case get DFA'd.

    Castro is a lot like Buxton was last year. Good defensively but can't hit, and has never been an offensive player. Simple fix.......... Trade Castro. I'd much rather watch Astudillo play than Castro any day of the week.

    This season seems to me to be one that the Twins could be any of 3 things. 1.They take the next step and take the central by storm with over-whelming performances by their entire team. 2.They perform at an average level again and fail to accomplish anything more than the same mediocrity that we have become accustomed to. 3.They fall flat on their face as the new aquisitions don't help lift the team as expected and instead of competing for the division title they try to stay above the other last place club in the division.

    Was not a big fan of him before the trade and still not. Cave, Astudillo, Adrianza, and Austin can do everything Gonzalez can do.

    Been a fan of the Schoop signing since before it was done. Dozier didn't break any records with his OBP either so we aren't losing anything there. Guessing he will bat in the 6 or 7 spot in the lineup so his lower OBP doesn't hurt a lot. Good article! Thanks!

    You covered it. Astros don't need an average utility player when you sign someone better to play everyday. I wanted the Twins to go after Brantley and once again they settle for the leftovers.

    I don't think you trade one of your top prospects for a catcher. Every catcher in the league is only 1 pitch away from a concussion. Look what it did to Mauer. He was never the same afterwards. It's just too risky to expect a Realmuto or anyone else to be in your lineup almost every day for the next 2,3,4 or more years and produce like one of the top 3 or 4 prospects in your system could.

    I totally disagree. It is not the "smart bet" but instead the SAFE BET they are playing. The smart bet would be to pull in some real talent that is proven from the outside either thru Free Agency or via trade and THEN IF Buxton and Sano live up to their expectations you have a juggernaut. The way they are playing it with the wait and see approach only proves to me their lack of committment to fielding a winning team.

    "I remember when Shannon Stewart was traded for and made a big difference, when we brought in Chili Davis, and Torrii Hunter to push the other players. Maybe that is what we are doing with Cruz. But the real question is - would you sign Harper or Machado if they were willing to come here? Or would you tell them to hang out for a year or two until we are a better team?" Last time I checked Shannon Sharpe played football. Morris was the best and it was only because of the timing. The Twins needed an Ace and got him. Molitor was good but never took them to the promised land. As for signing a Star, if the approach is to only go after the star when you are already good and we aren't doing it now, that speaks loudly on how they feel about this team in 2019. And it also says, nothing about this organization has changed since 1991 when they went out and got Jack Morris. So much for Target Field and the increased revenue allowing the Twins to be competitive in the Free Agent market.

    Machado is only worth 2 to 3 more wins to this club? I think you are miscalculating somewhere. His power alone would add 3 times that. Polonco might hit right with him for average but HR and RBI's Machado has a huge edge. That means run production. Run Production means winning games.

This pretty much sums up their committment to fielding a winning team. The 2 biggest words in this response are "IF" and "IF". What "IF" "IF" doesn't happen? He covers his butt by adding "we’re going to continue to have flexibility moving forward." Is that really being committed to winning? No, it's not knowing what you have and knowing "IF" what you've been doing will work. Comparing your team to an Oakland or Milwaukee just because they succeeded doesn't mean yours will. Last time I checked the Twins don't have the same players.

    Pretty obvious there is no committment to winning when you have money on the table to use, top talent available to acquire, and you walk away. Your grades are generous. Schoop and Cruz should help improve the team but they aren't difference makers. The other 3, Cron, Parker, Perez are cheap alternatives to what could and should have been major upgrades. 5 new additions that will not take them to the next level. Looks to me like they are banking on the in-house talent to come through or playing another season of "wait till next year". I'd give 'em a grade of "D" for player acquisitions, "C" for coaching additions simply because there is little to NO big league experience for any of the guys you mentioned, and an "F-" for resource allocations. Overall off-season performance grade = "D".

    The last line in this post is so TRUE. However it would also be very safe to just say "The Twins will never out-spend New York, LA, Houston and Boston". So, winning is a moot point.

    Another article about payroll and the Twins. Who would have thought? The Twins even with the opening of Target Field have a limited amount of revenue. You said it yourself, without a big TV contract that's the way it is. So, the biggest question then is HOW DO THE TWINS GET A BIG TV CONTRACT? The answer is not just from winning but probably more so from fielding the best team that you can, every year. Why would anyone want to sponser them or any Team for that matter when you have money to spend to make your Team better and you don't even try? The Twins are notorius for being CHEAP! The top Free Agents always go somewhere else because the Twins don't commit to winning or even fielding the best team that they can.

    If they want to make a bid for another Championship, go after Machado, Harper, Keuchel, Allen, Ottavino and show other FA in the coming years that your Team is committed to winning and there is a chance to win a Championship or two or three or more if you come to Minnesota. It will open the doors to more top FA than you can imagine. It'll never happen!

    Won't play in Minnesota! It's not about the weather. It's about the COMMITTMENT to winning. The Twins don't do it. Period. Look at the signings they have made this year. Anyone really look like they are going to be around for a while and make a difference? No! Any impact players that were on the roster in 2018 that they have tied up for quite a few years? No! This organization hasn't committed to any player outside of hometown boy Joe Mauer since Puckett and Hrbek wore the uniform. What big moves did they make to bring us another Championship when they had the M&M boys and were riding the top of the ALCentral at that time? Pavano? Crede? Capps? Livan Hernandez? Craig Monroe? Rondell White? Sidney Ponson? Jeff Cirillo? Bret Boone? Terry Mulholland? Shannon Stewart? Pat Borders? Kenny Rogers? Rick Reed? Jesse Orosco? Were any of them a difference maker? No! Crap, bottom of the barrel, hope and a prayer, washed up players that didn't matter. It has only happened 1 time in the history of the organization that they got someone who made a difference. Jack Morris in 1991, and by 1993 they were back to losing for 8 consecutive seasons. No Committment!

    Yes, we take your scraps and try to win. This is so much like Terry Ryan trying to catch lightning in a bottle it reaks. I guess the more times/guys that are castoffs that get signed the better the chances are that 1 of them actually ends up making the 2 boys look like they know what they're doing. (As long as everyone forgets about the crap that they sign that don't amount to anything).
