  1. It was already looking like a stretch for Kinley to make the team out of spring training, but with the addition of the three veteran pitchers in the bullpen, plus the young arms we have in the high minors, having him around makes less and less sense. Like Otwins said, Kinley is the sort of player you want to root for, but it's hard to see a fit for him on the staff, especially since we'd be obligated to having him on the roster all year. Seeing as how the team looks like it has hopes of contending this year, how do we justify keeping a guy like this --- somewhat of a "project" --- around all season?
  2. Gotta agree with that assessment. Boasting about "stealing strikes" could indeed come back to bite you in the you-know-where. But I also agree with the other posters: an interesting, delightful article!
  3. I think, ultimately, the Twins end up with one of Archer and Darvish. Maybe both; who knows. My hunch is that we end up getting neither pitcher. But hey, I'd love to be proved wrong!
  4. I like Archer a lot, and would love to have him in the Twins' rotation. But I really really would NOT want to include Lewis in any trade package. Keep your number one pick. I think in terms of a potential Chipper Jones-like career. You don't trade those sorts of players for good but not elite-level pitchers.
  5. I love this "Get To Know" series of articles. Thanks for another good installment, Seth. Bechtold strikes me as one of those players who will end up being a solid addition to the organization. I'll be rooting for him.
  6. Indeed, this is fun stuff to read. Thanks for the research and for posting it. Brings back lots of fun baseball memories. Sam Mele! And I think I had one of those Dick Stigman baseball cards at one time!
  7. The idea of using a clock to time the seconds between pitchers or batters make me shudder. No, no, no! For me, one of the great things about baseball is that they do NOT use a clock of any sort, Keep it that way. But yeah, the overall length of the games is a concern, especially in these time-pressed attention-span-deficit times. I'd opt for reducing or curtailing the stepping out of the batter's box stuff, and also the visits to the mound, by other players or coaching staff.
  8. I'm eager to see if Rooker can sustain the hype and hope at the next level. Very intriguing power. But the player that I'm most excited about, only from reading about him, is Akil Badoo. Hey, all of a sudden there are a LOT of very good prospects in the Twins system to get excited about!
  9. My first thought was: Scott Diamond is back! Whatever happened to that guy?
  10. Yeah, players like Boshers are ones you want to root for and hope they have success, if not here then elsewhere. That said, this was definitely the right move for the Twins at this point in time. Just too many good --- or potentially good --- arms in the bullpen right now.
  11. Just seeing the title "Hammond Happenings" made me smile. Thanks for that report! It's getting closer to February and the magical smell of Spring Training is in the air. One of my favorite times of the year. I can't wait!
  12. I'd love for the Twins to sign Darvish, but the idea of a 6-year contract --- especially for an aging pitcher with TJ surgery --- makes me very, very nervous!
  13. Like so many others have already said, Boshers should be the first man overboard. And at this point, keeping Kinley around strikes me as a head-scratcher too. All that aside, I'm starting to think that maybe a trade of some sort could be in the wind.
  14. Totally agree on the multi-year thing, and also the good deal aspect of this signing. In fact, I like getting Reed much more than adding Rodney. Seems like a better fit for the club's needs.
  15. From what I've been reading, Brusdar Graterol could be a potentially powerful part of the rotation in the near future. Your other picks "on the verge", Enlow and Leach, might also be mainstays. For some reason I think Gonsalves will end up being a disappointment. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm just not that excited about him. Count me a big Thorpe fan, though!
  16. Very interesting article on a subject that deserves more attention. Being from the o ld school of fans, I'm still trying to get my head around all these new stats, or sabermetrics, or whatever they are being called these days. BsR is a new one for me! But yeah, these sort of running skills are crucial in creating runs, or the opportunity to score more of them. Great to see the Twins scoring high in this area.
  17. Another interesting article, much appreciate as always. But I have a suggestion, or rather a request: Is it possible to include captions beneath the photos, telling us who exactly is pictured? I honestly have no idea who some of these players are!
  18. Yeah, maybe not a WOW signing, but it looks like a smart one. Whether it's for depth or insurance, it's a good move. And who knows, maybe this guy could turn into some sort of pinch-hitting weapon or something positive. Whatever the case, if he can hit .300, even in the PCL, he's worth having.
  19. Thanks, I had already forgotten about that signing. An intriguing player, factoring in that insanely low strikeout rate. Then again, I don't think his OBP was very high. But hey, let's look at those possible pitch framing skills!
  20. For some bizarre reason i started thinking about third-string catchers tonight, and in particular, what would the Twins do this coming season if there was an injury to Jason Castro or Mitch Garver? I assume they are not bringing back Chris Gimenez to catch (or pitch) in 2018, so who would be the emergency call-up if they needed an extra catcher early in the season? Someone from their own farm system, or elsewhere? I know it's not a question that will keep anyone awake at night, but I was just curious.
  21. I hope that's true and they can play the games as scheduled. That would be a BIG morale boost for the Puerto Rican baseball fans, not to mention the citizens in general. I had family back in Florida who were without electricity for a full week or longer after the hurricane, so it's mind-boggling to imagine that many of the Puerto Ricans have waited months, and are still waiting for their power to be restored. Best wishes to them for a quicker recovery. Play ball!
  22. Reading stories like that remind me of why I love baseball. And very good article, by the way!
  23. I for one am hoping that Colon pitches in the majors in 2018. Maybe not for the Twins, but I hope some team gives him a shot. I love seeing colorful players like him playing the game for the sheer love of it, rather than these dull nimrods with bad facial hair who take themselves too seriously.
  24. What strikes me about this incident and similar ones in recent months is the rush to judgement by so many people. This is dangerous and disturbing territory. I've lost count of the number of people saying that something should be done to Sano: fine him, suspend him, release him, trade him. Obviously this is a serious issue, and people care very much about it, but I think we would be wise to let the dust settle and try and get a fair and balanced account of what happened or didn't happen. In this current climate of accusations flying left and right, I think the public needs to be VERY wary of casting judgement before both sides have had their chance to make their case.
  25. I always enjoy reading these write-ups about the newer players in the system. Very informative. Thanks for another good report, Seth!
